### 2/5 — Developer won’t update major issue

*2024-06-05, version 2.3.14*

Two years ago someone pointed out
a major flaw and two years later it hasn’t been fixed. The app only plays 3-4 songs from your playlist-no matter how many songs are on the list.

Stay away.

### 4/5 — Solid app!

*2024-04-03, version 2.3.14*

I’ve been trying to accomplish something similar just with Apple Music and a smart playlist, but apparently Apple doesn’t include BPM info by default. With a little bit of tweaking from the default on-boarding settings this app has easily become essential to my runs.

### 2/5 — Great idea-major bug

*2021-07-26, version 2.3.6*

This app has such potential except for one thing. It only plays 4 or five songs off of the Playlist chosen! The list has many more songs on it, but only a very few play over and over.
Please help!!!

### 3/5 — Great App but Ads hurt its usefulness

*2019-10-26*

New Review:
Obviously the app was better before the ads but it still does what’s intended. I’ve merely adjusted my running to make it work. Due to an issue with the app I had to shuffle all my songs which... wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Still the app does exactly what you’d expect & has a ton of options available.

Original review:
I’ve posted on FB, sent a tweet, & messaged the Dev through their website. Version 2.3.1 & 2.3.2 crash upon opening on an iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 13.1.3.

I even uninstalled the app & then it worked... temporarily. After force closing the app after it reuploaded my song list the crashing returned. Crashes on opening!

Edit 1: In response to the developer I’ve used the “contact us” form on their website to send more detailed information. I cannot enable or send a log as the app ALWAYS crashes upon opening it.

Edit 2: I did another uninstall & rebooted the phone, then reinstalled, opened the app, got my tempo uploaded & then closed the app. Crashing upon opening returned. I rebooted my phone a second time... it works! Never did get a response from the developer via email.

**Developer response:** Tario70 - For some reason we haven't received your messages. Could you send us your log file from PaceDJ? You can activate the log function in settings, and send the file from settings as well. We'd like to fix the problem.

### 3/5 — Great app! Love it

*2019-10-12, version 2.3.1*

I’m really loving the app so much so that I would totally pay for the subscription if it was able to be linked to Fitbit or other step devices. The step counter on here is not accurate to “my” movement. 5 stars if this feature was added. And also will buy subscription if so.

### 2/5 — Was a good app

*2019-03-22, version 2.2.0*

I use this all the time, and just recently in the past few weeks it's been glitching out big time. Last week it wouldn't play continuously, and today it won't load at all. I get into the app, and then it closes out. It won't let me select anything, adjust my bpm, or anything. What the heck am I paying for?

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-01-09, version 2.1.20*

Only plays one song from the playlist. Will not adjust the beat. Useless. DO NOT DOWNLOAD.

### 1/5 — They blew it

*2018-12-22, version 2.1.20*

I used this app for years for running. It used MY music and adjusted the pace accordingly for great running. But now, the subscription level ruined the normal app. The advertisement pauses the music and when you’re running, with gloves, need to stop to close the ads. Every 2 songs. Why would I pay $1/month to listen to my own music? Make the app a one-time $5 purchase. Not worth it!

### 5/5 — Spotty at best

*2018-11-29, version 2.1.20*

The music selection is spotty at best, and often the app pretends there are no songs at my selected tempo (180bpm) despite my having an entire 135 song playlist at that tempo and over 7000 songs in my library.

### 1/5 — tried the subscription

*2018-10-19*

since there was no way to do some of the things i wanted... problem being that when the subscription renews the app doesn’t pick that up so i can’t so what i need to. i don’t notice there is a problem until i’m using the app... and it won’t restore to a subscription version event when i use the in app restore. the only way i can get it running as expected is to delete it (and all of the data with the app) and reinstall...

i took a chance with the subscription guys but every time it renews i lose a day on it because i have to redo it when I'm at home - or , basically, not the gym or running.

i gave you a chance here, at your suggestion, by subscribing even after you took away the basic functionality. i just deleted it again so that i can reinstall and use it and not be reminded about what was removed. please fix your app and how it applies subscriptions. id like to be able to use the app and not have to tweak with it all the time. it’s a decent app but, good god, do you guys ever use your own software in the real world?

correction, even after reinstalling this time it still tells me to get a premium subscription...

**Developer response:** Hi Tandex - sorry to hear you are unhappy with the subscription. We wanted to exempt prior app purchasers from having to take a subscription, but that is not an option Apple makes available. Please consider that the $0.99/month PaceDJ subscription is a bargain compared to other services that charge $4.99/month!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Currently not working

*2025-12-12, version 2.3.18*

This app has been great until recently when there was a glitch, so I deleted and redownloaded the app. Since then it crashes every time I try to load my Apple Music library and is telling me to renew my subscription when I already have one. I’ve messaged the developers and heard nothing back, not impressed.

### 1/5 — Used to be great, now everything’s locked

*2025-03-04, version 2.3.17*

I used to use this app all the time, but suddenly everything’s behind paywalls

### 1/5 — Glitches

*2022-10-18, version 2.3.11*

I was really excited to try this out. But on my first try the app kept shutting down, they played the same music from my playlist, and for the interval section they didn’t seem to switch BPMs to the moderate and high BPM level. I’m really disappointed. I will try it a couple more times and then give up.

### 1/5 — Subscription crashes

*2022-03-12, version 2.3.11*

Come back when you can make an app that works

### 1/5 — The all mighty dollar

*2021-12-05, version 2.3.11*

Such a brilliant idea for the app. In the past these features were available (eg BPM Shifting ) for free or with ads or a one time fee — not a subscription. And now we need a subscription for anything useful. Glad you care so much about the almighty dollar rather than your consumers.

### 1/5 — Can’t sync app

*2020-05-13, version 2.3.5*

It keeps telling me it needs permission to motion and fitness but it’s not an option in settings.

### 1/5 — App Knee Capped in iOS 13

*2020-01-05*

I used to use this app religiously last year, when it apparently worked fine on iOS 12. All songs got scanned, and my playlists were always at least 50 songs long. Now under iOS 13, the app fails to scan my music library about half way through and it can only play a dozen songs. All of my music is local to my device and I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Shame.

### 1/5 — App quits or won’t work

*2019-10-26, version 2.3.2*

I used the app subscription for three days and then the app kept closing and wouldn’t work. Cancelled !!

### 1/5 — iOS13 Fail

*2019-09-28, version 2.2.2*

Ever since the iOS13 update the app won’t work. Please fix this or I’m going to have to quit.

### 1/5 — Ripped and jipped

*2019-02-18*

I paid for this app and now I get an automatic upgrade of the app which now requires a subscription? I feel ripped off and Apple’s upgrade system isn’t helping, but what does Apple care? they make more money also. I’m turning off automatic upgrades so some of this nonsense can stop. A lot of my good old apps no longer work, and many are turning to subscription or get plastered with ads, even if you paid for them.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Perfect for walking or running to

*2023-05-01, version 2.3.13*

Set it to 120 for a brisk walk and it picks all the right tracks - I love it!
This is the only app that does what I want

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2023-01-23, version 2.3.13*

Used a lot of BPM apps, so far the best!

### 5/5 — WAY BETTER THAN THE COMPETITION

*2022-05-06*

This is the best app in the App Store for athletes who want a simple, customizable way to use your own music to set the pace of their workouts. I’ve tried WeaveRun and RockMyRun and they don’t compare. With a little tweaking to improve control integration with Bluetooth, Bluetooth his app will earn six stars with me. Thanks for a great workout tool!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-12-20*

This is a great app and definitely worth the small monthly price if you work out regularly. It makes a big difference for me when on the treadmill or elliptical— much less boring and easier to keep my pace. I had some issues initially, but the developers were extremely attentive and helpful and fixed all the bugs. Now it is very smooth.

### 5/5 — Crashes after iOS14

*2021-05-05, version 2.3.6*

This app doenst work anymore after upgrading to iOS14. It try to open but crashes... please review and fix it.
Thanks!

### 5/5 — Customizable and easy to use

*2020-09-23*

I love how smart this app is and how I can keep my motivation high by running to the music in my own library. I also love how it finds songs that I’ve not listened to in a while. A great app for runners wanting to change the routine a bit!

### 5/5 — Excellent app - my running soulmate!

*2019-11-13, version 2.3.4*

Takes a while to configure and get to grips with but well worth it. Legs, breathing and songs all naturally synchronised makes everything feel easier. My favourite app!

### 5/5 — Crashed after iOS update

*2019-09-28*

Used to be the best thing since sliced bread. Did exactly what it said. Crashed recently after this last iOS update, so it can no longer change the pace of songs. It’s a one of a kind app. Fingers crossed for a quick update to fix the bug!!! I can’t run without it!!!!

**Developer response:** We've got an update pending. Sorry for the disruption. Sometimes Apple iOS updates break things unexpectedly. We're scrambling to fix the issue. Thanks for your patience.

### 5/5 — Great idea!

*2019-04-29, version 2.2.2*

I am using it for my treadmill workout- and it’s really helpful.

### 5/5 — 2.2.2 is broken

*2019-04-16, version 2.2.2*

This used to be a fantastic app, until version 3.2.2 and now the app doesn’t load.
