Book forums and read-alongs feel like you’re in a wholesome book club with friends. The women who run the app are constantly taking feedback and making improvements and somehow still have time to read so many books. The streaks and cute aesthetic motivates me to read without feeling manufactured. Its is SO MUCH better than goodreads, with better design and better functions. There are unique ways to connect with people, for example the Reddit-like forum for each book. I especially love the query’s and lists who you can build similar to playlists. Having to be different colors for interested, paused, to be read, really need it feel like I was actively engaging towards my yearly goal of finishing 10 books (yes a small amount but a struggle for me!). On UI standpoint, the only thing I wish was a little bit more seamless, was how you could add books by looking at other people’s timelines, sometimes when I wanted to add a book to a private list rather than give it a tag, I would have to look up the book title instead, which ended up being a little bit cumbersome. I also wish that this app almost had something of a book club with moderators, sometimes I scroll through the forums and the community would just be one mob identity that would sometimes bash on one person phrasing or difficult question. I’m not sure if this is common in the book community. I know in other communities it is. Most people who download this app want to read and discuss, and I think having a side page towards that would help! ### 5/5 — Love it! *2026-07-18, version 1.1.93* Genuinely such a great app, and the co-founders keep making updates and improvements that the community wants. I really don’t like the script font headers (“reading status shelves”, “custom shelves”) and either wish we could customize that or it be something else, it’s not the easiest font to read for ppl who have reading disabilities. the interface may also push away male audiences, not that pink and cursive = girly, but I think we all know how gender norms work LOL. Torah and fable have way better trackers. This one is not as easy or my app is glitching idk but it’s whack that I can’t add reading from past days even though it says I can’t no I can’t. I like the reading tracker much better on other apps because it is very simple to track your reading process on this app. Basically, if you don’t update it on the day of, it’s like running through circles trying to figure out how to add pages that you read yesterday the day before. It is advertised that you can edit this however, I just sat there in a loop for five minutes and I give up I’m not gonna waste that. In real life, I have a 300 page reading streak and I really am anal about my apps reflecting that for me and I really don’t like that. It says I only been reading I have been reading for much much longer and on the page where you can go into past days to edit what you’re reading it shows you the options to click and then it just goes to the book page. There’s no way to add it so I really don’t understand what but I don’t think that the UI is very good for that and it absolutely is going to affect how much I use this app I would lose it a lot more if I could get my streaks right because again the streaks mean something to me. ### 5/5 — 1 book app, drop the rest *2026-07-08, version 1.1.92* As a female-owned & operated app, some of the features I love include no dated posts (as books are timeless), a place to record your progress on a book you are currently reading, selecting “my taste” books for your profile, and being able to read notes and reviews with clear spoiler alerts that flag the exact part of the book the poster has read so far, ensuring a safe space for reading content when you haven’t yet finished the book! Create your own bookshelves, make plans, set goals, join discussions, engage in forums, and create book playlists. What more could you ask for? Oh, and no ads shoved in your face! Also, it’s just so aesthetically pleasing. ### 2/5 — No Ads but Yes “Sponsors” *2026-07-08, version 1.1.92* This is the best book community app there is. I think so many of the users are what make it so great. The new wrap ups with the paid royalty wraps are nice. While advertised as not having ads, there are “sponsors” who get sales through “quests” and users get “badges” by buying those books (as some are not avail from libraries) so you’ll see a book with a low rating getting SUPER boosted on your feed not knowing it is “sponsored”. I think the work around wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t hidden-ish. Sponsored quests are called “Limited Time” quests etc , the badges don’t look distinguishable from the reader-made quests, publishers have user accounts that look like anyone else... So you wouldn’t know unless you know to be looking for it and hunting down every description. Idk why it cant be more straightforward, but it is practically illegal to mention it on the app. Another two stars removed for the cultish qualities I’ve noticed (users take mental health breaks after being bullied by the hive) and the creators/leaders pushing for that even further this month. “community-voted User of the Month…The entire PB community can nominate a user they believe embodies PB values. The user with the most nominations will be awarded a badge-“ Encouraging users to embody their values… which do include not being allowed to comment about the app on the app unless it is positive. Even the app creator will dominate a users post. Like imagine you say anything, even nicely about an fb update and Zuck tells you that you shouldve come to him directly instead of mentioning it to anyone else ☠️ I’ll stop here. I yield my time! (No developer feedback welcome on this review 🫶) ### 5/5 — I use this more than social media *2026-07-07, version 1.1.92* Like most of you, I doomscroll. I used to be an intense reader, so I decided to pick that habit back up last year and tracked my reads on goodreads. I downloaded Pagebound about a month ago, immediately deleted goodreads and have been reading MORE books since. The features, incentives, and community are like nothing else. When I scroll on here I’m learning about other books! I’ve already convinced multiple friends to join, and this is me trying to convince you as well. It’s time to put a dent in that TBR bbg! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — community isnt the best *2026-07-27, version 1.1.94* all i did was give an opinion and suddenly everyone's got their panties in a twist, i'd suggest just straight up using something else! this app sucks! ### 1/5 — Not welcoming or a safe space *2026-07-20, version 1.1.93* While I love the aesthetics of the app and several of its features such as quests and lists, I just don’t feel comfortable using it any longer which is a shame because I’ve been using the app since last year. During my time on Pagebound, I’ve witnessed a handful of instances in which a user was being bullied by users with larger followings and the founders didn’t do anything about it. The platform has no moderation for behavior which makes it feel like a very unsafe space. Most recently, I witnessed a user be called a coward with a lack of reading comprehension for stating a simple opinion and blocking a user and the comment is STILL up weeks later despite flagging it multiple times. Another time, I witnessed a different user be bullied for days for daring to question how the titles for a sponsored quest were picked. Adding to all of this, the founders have absolutely zero plans for enabling any kind of privacy options such as being able to make your profile private or only allowing specific users to comment on your posts. Since there is no moderation, the lack of privacy options makes the platform feel even more unsafe. There is an option to block users but blocking doesn’t feel good enough when a user is being bullied and dogpiled by users with larger followings and their friends. Finally, any opinions that a user might have of the platform are not welcome unless they’re positive and praising of the platform. The moment you disagree with the founders or even slightly criticize the platform, you will be targeted and bullied. I’ve also noticed multiple users take a break from the platform for mental health reasons which is very indicative of the climate that’s being fostered on Pagebound. I cannot say I recommend this app. In fact, I suggest looking for an alternative before you experience harm on this platform. The founders actively foster a cliquey community in which mean girl vibes abound. Developer feedback not welcome on this review. ### 1/5 — good potential, strange community *2026-07-13, version 1.1.92* after 7 months of using this app, i can safely say that it has great potential as a tracker, and has space to host a variety of discussions. however the community is a bit cult like. as long as you are agreeing with them, you’ll be fine. but the moment you disagree or criticize the community the app or the founders publicly, you’ll get dogpiled by the top contributors. there is no moderation of their behavior. they literally take it upon themselves to act like guard dogs. edit: it’s also become evident that the founders are not capable of responding to user inquiries in a professional manner. edit: dropped down to one star, because it’s amazing how the founders are willing to let long time users bully others in the light of day. comments are being left up despite being flagged. what exactly are the values of pagebound if this behavior is allowed to go unmoderated?🫩 (to be entirely clear, this is a rhetorical question. actions speak louder than words.) ### 1/5 — Nope *2026-07-09, version 1.1.92* Randomly signed me up for a newsletter I didn’t ask for or sign up for. Spammy. Also the app is not user friendly. And then I get a newsletter with them explaining why they paywalled certain stats. It’s just frustrating that every book app paywalls stats, the one element that most people want. The community is also super cliquey and makes it hard to integrate. ### 1/5 — Paywalls *2026-05-02, version 1.1.7* Deleted my whole account after this newest update did what every other app does and locks Stats behind a freaking paywall. I’m so over book tracking apps locking the one thing everyone wants behind paywalls. ### 1/5 — Immediately deleted *2025-11-25* Came across the insta account multiple times. Decided to wait for the app. Signed up and was asked to add 3 books to my profile. Out of the 10 (or less) suggested 2 were Harry Potter books. No thank you 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ I get that you can‘t really get around putting them in a book app, but don‘t suggest them like that. Immediately deleted the account. ### 1/5 — Cliquey, Hierarchical, and Weird *2025-11-25* I do not write app reviews, but I’m hoping I can save other readers from wasting their energy and experiencing harm here. I really do not recommend this app. My experience has been bewildering. The creators facilitate an extremely cliquey culture, anointing users who praise them and read similarly to higher statuses that afford them more involvement in creating “quests” and other points-driven aspects that arbitrarily quantify readers’ worth. It’s incredibly juvenile and shocking. Though the creators say they welcome feedback, they really don’t. They go as far as to goad and incite bullying when people call them in for their insufferably imperialist views on literature. They then follow up with mocking people with videos on their ig platform. These people are vehemently anti-Irish (which?), USA-centric in every way, and it’s genuinely a toxic social media platform. Questioning their “quests” leads to creators flaunting their degrees as though institutional accolades from genocidal, gentrifying universities most aren’t privileged enough to access makes them more intelligent and more important. It doesn’t. Anti-AI doesn’t always mean anti-oppression, unfortunately. This is a supremacist, mean-girl space. ### 1/5 — English only app??? *2025-10-24, version 1.0.3* Find it odd that they ask people to write only in English. What about books in other languages? Not everyone speaks English, and online translators are a thing as well. With how things are going in the world the last thing we need is to be excluding people based on language. I had reread one series and read one new one way earlier this year before I downloaded this app, and now I’ve finished 14 books just this month and read every single day except one! It’s so helpful to have an app that tracks your progress, lets you write forum posts and see others thoughts on whatever you’re reading, and has so many fun quests and lists of new books!
