### 4/5 — Great App So Far

*2025-09-04, version 2.27*

Lots of educational
Info available! Needed a way to begin to log and track my pain and determine what makes things worse …and to learn how to make coping with chronic pain a bit easier. Lots of ways to detail one’s pain seem to be available on this app.

### 4/5 — Doing a restart!

*2025-04-07*

Couldn’t recall how this app really was set up. After I had to restart my phone because it froze on me, many of my apps were reset and auto-passwords were deleted. Tried usia different pain app today that records intensity and supposition about how the next days pain will impact me but the visual placement of pain is mainly centered _ I love that that you can do left and right sides, front & back as well as quality of pain on PainScale. I also like that you can add meds & triggers & symptoms. I’ll put forth effort into making a decent comparison of some of the pain apps- I am able to log many symptoms as present or not or the exact day or time frame, but iPhone wants exact times for taking all medication & I am not up to ‘exact,’ and at the level of ‘taken or not taken’ with an addition of reason- maybe I can set one up on the iPhone like as a symptom.

I also like the education piece.
C.D.

### 2/5 — Some items not saving

*2024-12-01, version 2.27*

No matter how many times I enter the body parts affected and save it, this does not save to the results.

It states No Body Parts Selected.

I need this to save for medical communications with my doctor.

### 2/5 — Weather tracking not working

*2024-11-17, version 2.27*

Other than the weather tracking it is good, but that was the main reason I downloaded the app.

### 3/5 — Wonderful app until this past Friday

*2024-10-28, version 2.27*

I have used this app for the last few years and since Friday, I cannot log anything nor can I now log in after trying to log out to see if that helps. I depend on this app to update my doctors….. Please fix or I’ll have to start another app.

### 3/5 — What’s happened?

*2024-10-26, version 2.27*

It’s suddenly stopped working. Even tried deleting and reinstalling, but now it won’t even let me log in.

### 2/5 — Weather app no longer tracking

*2024-10-25, version 2.27*

Weather is no longer tracking regardless of it being turned on and I cannot send feedback because it says my email account has not been set up but yet I have an email account and it has my password so it doesn’t make sense so you can’t talk to anybody to get help

And now a year later, I’ve been using this app for 5+ years and it just doesn’t work anymore. It doesn’t load no matter what I do very disappointing.

### 5/5 — Perfect for tracking symptoms with detail and timestamps.

*2024-08-29, version 2.27*

I’m starting my journey to diagnosis for chronic pain symptoms that I’ve had for 15+ years. I figured having a pain journal would be handy during this time.

I tried another pain tracking app to begin with and while it was helpful to note things down, it did not provide timestamps nor a body map to help describe symptoms in an accurate manner.

PainScale is absolutely everything I was looking for. I’ll be seeing a specialist soon, and being able to download my reports in a PDF to send along is INVALUABLE!

Love this and can’t wait to see it progress.

### 5/5 — This app is WONDERFUL - and free. Better than the paid apps.

*2024-08-25, version 2.27*

Some of us are destitute and broke because of our conditions. I sure am. Literally can’t afford food some days. It really is like that.

So having an app like this is a godsend - where the other leading app wants $5 a month.

I mean, I get being a software developer and wanting to make money. Fine.

But if you have morals, this isn’t the right area to be milking folks like us because most of us already have nothing at this point.

Thank you so much to these devs and for this app. You have no idea how much you’re helping some of us and if I did have the money, I would certainly pay or donate to these guys.

### 5/5 — Really useful to track pain

*2024-08-17, version 2.27*

This journaling app is really useful to track painful and compile info. I am extremely impressed with the lack of in-app purchases.

### 5/5 — Chronic pain patient

*2024-08-10, version 2.27*

Very helpful in daily logging of specific pain locations and symptoms. Good to see stats as well.

### 5/5 — Invaluable

*2024-05-22, version 2.27*

Have been using pain scale to track and monitor my pain. Logging is simple and intuitive. Articles about difference in types of pain are instructive and helpful. While my pain differs from anyone else, as all pain suffers know, I’m able to glean information from the myriad of pains out there. Highly recommend just for the tracking portion of the app. Everything else is golden.

### 3/5 — I don’t have a Fitbit

*2024-04-29, version 2.27*

I really like the app but every time I log something it asks me to connect my Fitbit. I don’t have a Fitbit and clicking out of it has become annoying.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Junk mail

*2026-02-02, version 2.27*

Just a warning to everyone. If you make an account with this app, you will be inundated with spam. I’ve never signed up for something that has put me on so many mailing lists. I know this app was the cause because I very rarely get junk mail. But within days of signing up for this, the spam came pouring in. So, make an account at your own risk.

### 1/5 — Read their policy

*2025-07-16, version 2.27*

When it is free, you are the product.

### 1/5 — App is not working!

*2024-10-27, version 2.27*

Initially, I loved this site and being able to safely track my pain levels and symptoms. Though, for the past few days, Pain Scale has not been working. When I go to track or to read information, the page is blank and unable to do anything. When I click on articles to read from the emails I receive or when I tried to reach out to app support, a message pops up saying that the connection is not safe and that this site might be trying to steal personal and financial information! What is going on??

### 1/5 — App is good- can’t use it

*2024-10-26, version 2.27*

Loved the app but it stopped opening two days ago. Disappointed I have to find a new one.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-10-25, version 2.27*

This app is broken. You can’t login and their website is no longer working

### 1/5 — Froze while trying to set up account

*2024-10-25, version 2.27*

I haven’t been able to even access the app’s content because it’s frozen on the “Do you have any medical conditions?” screen.

### 1/5 — It was great when the app stays open

*2023-04-21, version 2.27*

The app was great for the first 3 months I used it… now it’s pretty much useless. All I enter is the pain rating and ONE location and I can’t even do that. When I try to log pain the app closes instantly after clicking on log. It’ll happen over and over and over and over again. If I magically get it to log, I won’t be able to go in to edit anything because it starts doing the same closing thing in the journal tab. I’m deleting the app because I won’t even be able to open the journal to show my doctor… Super frustrating.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2023-01-22, version 2.27*

Do not get this app. They delete unfavorable comments - can’t find my previous one. But the email reports are messed up, won’t come through. I am trying to contact people but no response. Waste of money.

### 1/5 — Undiagnosed not an option

*2022-12-12, version 2.27*

My pain is chronic and severe but does not fit any of the diagnoses listed. It is a direct result of failed hip surgery but there is no diagnosis for that. Having no « Undiagnosed » category is discriminatory and renders the app useless for those of us who have no official diagnosis.

### 2/5 — A lot of redundant info for me

*2025-04-18, version 2.27*

It’s too much to navigate if you only want to track pain levels. The notifications come but won’t lead you to where you need to write. Overall didn’t fit my needs of pain level tracking.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2025-09-13, version 2.27*

Must Have

### 5/5 — Best Pain Tracking App - Hands Down!

*2025-08-07*

I’ve been using this for years. The ability to pinpoint locations and type of pain, integration with weather, and reports are very informative. I’ve tried other apps and non come close to how wonderful this app is! If I had anything to add, I’d say allowing integration with MyFitnessPal would make it perfection. That way you wouldn’t have to log food separately.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Phenomenal!!!

*2025-03-02, version 2.27*

Best app I have found so far for my chronic pain management!!!

### 5/5 — Thank you

*2025-02-22, version 2.27*

Perfect for helping sort pains to report to doctors.

### 5/5 — Room for small improvements

*2025-02-15*

I’ve been using PainScale for just over 2 weeks now and it has made keeping track of my pain and triggers so much easier. There’s so many ways the app can be personalized and lots of good resources as well! Like someone else said I wish just the wrists could be selected and that there was an upper and lower back section as well as separate hips. There are a few minor things that I think are a little unclear but overall this a fantastic app!

### 5/5 — A Fantastic & Helpful Pain App

*2025-01-29, version 2.27*

PainScale is so user friendly that even when my brain fog is so thick I can still navigate this app. That I can track my pain levels and the locations and severity of the pain in that area is amazing. More amazing I can forward information to my medical team or even just print it off and take it with me.
 Best pain tracking app available.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2025-01-16, version 2.27*

App works great. I love having the ability to write down my symptoms and the things I tried to do to address my health.

### 5/5 — Great app, one suggestion:

*2024-11-24*

I absolutely love painscale, its been really helpful with tracking my chronic pain flareups, however in the pain logs on the body section where you select the locations of your pain, I wish selecting the wrist itself was an option, rather than only having the arm or hand. Other than that small suggestion I absolutely adore this app and it has made tracking my pain so much easier.

### 5/5 — Great but it stopped working

*2024-10-29, version 2.27*

It's working again! Hooray! Now to backfill my pain logs.

I have been using this daily for over two years but suddenly I can't add my pain scale or see my previous entries or even read any of the articles about managing pain.

### 5/5 — Unable to use

*2024-10-28, version 2.27*

Can’t even sign up.
