## What is Paint the Roses Clue Checker?

Paint the Roses (PTR) Clue Checker is a focused deduction helper for Paint the Roses, the cooperative board game of secret garden paths and hidden intentions.

When your teammate places a tile and drops clue tokens, PTR Checker tells you exactly which color and shape combinations are possible — and eliminates the ones that aren't — across every round of the game.

HOW IT WORKS
Select the tile your teammate placed, then tap the tiles adjacent to it on the board. Enter the number of clue tokens placed. Tap "Check Clues" and instantly see a checkmark or X for every relevant combination. Results carry forward automatically — each new round narrows the possibilities down, and once a combination is ruled out it stays ruled out.

UP TO 5 PLAYERS
Track up to five Whim cards simultaneously. Each player gets their own dedicated deduction grid with independent clue counts and accumulation logic. Switch between players from the Results screen at any time. When a player's card is identified, use Clear Card to reset just that player's grid without touching anyone else's progress.

FULL GAME HISTORY
Tap the clock icon to open the History screen and review every round played — up to 20 rounds per game. Each entry shows the tile placed, all adjacent tiles, every player's clue token count for that round, and which cards were cleared. Clears are tied to the round that follows them, so you always have a clear timeline of when each Whim card was solved.

THREE DIFFICULTY MODES

Easy — color-to-color pairs only
Medium — color-to-color and shape-to-shape pairs
Hard — all pairs including cross color-to-shape combinations

BOARD AND BGA LAYOUTS
Switch between Board and Board Game Arena card layouts to match the physical deduction sheet in front of you, so your results always line up exactly with the card at the table.

DESIGNED FOR THE TABLE
PTR Checker works entirely offline — no account, no internet connection, no data collected. Pick it up mid-game, get your answer, put it down. The app resets with one tap, so it's always ready for the next round.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-05-26

Your game is now saved automatically.

Every round you submit is saved instantly, so if you get a call, switch apps, or close PTR Checker mid-game, you'll pick up exactly where you left off when you reopen it — no re-entering tiles, no rebuilding your deduction history.

New Game

Ready to start fresh? Tap the ••• menu in the toolbar and select New Game. A quick confirmation keeps you from losing your session by accident, then everything resets to a clean slate.

Bug fixes & improvements

- Player names are now saved as you type them, so renaming mid-game is never lost
- Clearing a player's card is now recorded in the round it happened, not the following one — your game history is more accurate
- Fixed an issue where step cards in the Help screen didn't stretch to full width on all devices
- Help screen updated to reflect the new ••• menu for History and New Game

### 1.1 — 2026-05-24

Track Up to 5 Player Whim Cards
PTR Checker now supports up to five players in a single game. Each player gets their own dedicated deduction card that tracks independently — separate clue token counts per round, separate result grids, and separate accumulation logic. Switch between players using the tab bar at the top of the Results screen. When a player's Whim card is identified, use Clear Card to reset just that player's grid and keep going without disrupting anyone else's progress.

Up to 20 Rounds
PTR Checker now tracks your full game, round by round, up to 20 rounds. Each round you submit is recorded automatically — no extra steps required. Results accumulate across every round so the deduction grid always reflects everything you know so far. Combinations are eliminated as rounds narrow the possibilities down, and once a combination is ruled out it stays ruled out, even if a later round's tiles could have matched it.

History
Tap the clock icon in the toolbar to open the Game History screen. Every recorded round is listed most-recent-first, showing the tile placed, all adjacent tiles, each player's clue token count for that round, and which player cards were cleared. If a Whim card was solved and cleared between rounds, it's noted on the following round's entry so you always have a clear timeline of when each card was identified.

Help Text
The in-app help guide has been fully rewritten to match the current feature set. It now covers multi-player setup, how clue counts are capped by adjacent tile totals, how results accumulate and narrow across rounds, when to use Clear Card, and how to read the History screen. Open it anytime with the question mark icon in the toolbar.
