## What is Paintblade?

Throw knives at a swinging target. Every hit paints a picture: twelve to finish, and five knife styles to collect.

A cannon on a rail throws straight up. Above it, a target bar swings left and right, carrying small coloured zones you have to pin. In between, blocker bars slide across the lane, and a knife that hits one rides off the side of the screen, gone.

So every throw is a prediction of two moving things at once: will my lane still be clear, and will the zone be over it when the knife arrives? Knives are limited. Every level is on a clock.

TWELVE PICTURES TO PAINT
- Every ten levels is a chapter, and every chapter is a pixel picture on the floor under your cannon.
- Every zone you pin throws its paint onto it. You paint what you hit.
- From a duck in sunglasses to a cat in a taco. The ones you have not reached stay secret.
- Finish one and it takes over the screen, then joins your gallery.

SPARKS AND KNIFE STYLES
- Earn sparks for every pin, every level and every finished picture.
- Collect five knife styles with them: ember, jade, midnight, frost and gold.
- Out of knives or out of time? Spend sparks, or watch an optional ad, to keep going on the same level with more knives or more time.

LEVELS AND STARS
- Every level you clear is yours for good. Fail one and you go again from that level, never from the start.
- Earn up to three stars on every level: three for not wasting a single knife.
- Later levels bring more zones, narrower zones, a faster swing, longer blockers, fewer knives and less clock.

HOW TO PLAY
- Drag to place the cannon, lift your thumb to throw. One hand, the whole game.
- Throw early. Lift before the zone reaches your lane, so the knife and the zone arrive together.
- Wait for a gap in the blockers.
- Three short lessons teach the throw before level 1.

A lane, a swing, and how well you read it. Plays offline. Throw your first knife.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.4.0 — 2026-10-15

A bigger, brighter Paintblade. It plays the same; you just see more of it.

EVERYTHING BIGGER
- The beam, the knives, the blockers and the menus are all larger on screen, so the target is easier to read at a glance.
- Your knife leaves a clearer trail on its way up.

PAINTED ROOMS
- Every chapter has its own room colour, from ochre to sage to lavender.
- The paint you throw splashes the walls. The more of the picture you paint, the more colour the room collects, and a new chapter starts clean.

EVERY HIT SPLASHES
- Trying a level again? Every zone you hit still throws its paint, even where the picture already has it.

SMALLER THINGS
- A new PLAY button on the home screen.
- Text on buttons and cards fits on every screen size.
- The picture gallery fits on tablets.

### 3.3.0 — 2026-10-12

Rebound is now a level game, and every chapter paints a picture worth showing someone.

TWELVE PICTURES, EACH ONE A JOKE
- Every ten levels is a chapter, and every chapter paints one pixel picture on the floor under your cannon: a duck in sunglasses, a cat in a taco, and ten more.
- The ones you have not reached stay secret in your gallery until you get there.
- Finish a chapter and its picture takes over the screen, large, with its name. Then it joins your gallery.
- More colours to paint with, and the black details are drawn in from the start, so you can see what you are making.

TWO BEAMS
- From level 9, every fifth level splits the target in two. The halves swing opposite ways, parting and meeting, so each zone has its own direction to read before you throw.

LEVELS YOU KEEP
- Every level you clear is yours for good. There are no lives any more: miss a level and you simply play it again, never the whole climb.
- Your progress carries over. If you played before, you start at the best board you reached.

THREE STARS ON EVERY LEVEL
- Earn up to three stars on each level: three for not wasting a single knife. The stars at the top of the screen show what you can still earn.
- A level-complete card with stars that land one by one, your sparks, and where you are in the chapter.

KNIFE STYLES
- Spend sparks on new knives: ember, jade, midnight, frost and gold. Tap your sparks on the home screen to see them.

KEEP GOING
- Out of knives or out of time? Keep the same try going, with the zones you already pinned still pinned: more knives or more time, by watching an optional ad or for sparks.
- Or try again for free, with a fresh layout.

LEARN THE THROW
- Three short lessons teach the throw before level 1. Replay them any time from "how to play" on the home screen.
- Tapping to start a level no longer throws a knife, and the target's zones are visible before you start.

A CALMER, CLEARER GAME
- The target swings more slowly, and speeds up more gently from level to level.
- A new home screen, a new title and a new font throughout.
- All new sounds. Sound now starts switched off: turn it on in Settings.
- Daily reminders, if you use them, now tell you where you are: your level, and how close your picture is.
- Settings has bigger switches, and a way to reset your progress and start again.
- The game opens on a short loading screen, and anything it needs to ask you is asked there, not over the PLAY button.

ADS
- The occasional full-screen ad now comes only when you tap CONTINUE after clearing a level: never during a level, never after a missed one, and not before level 6.
- On the level-complete card you can choose to watch a short ad to double the sparks the level earned.
- The app now asks whether you allow tracking before any ad is requested.

### 2.3.0 — 2026-09-29

Every hit paints a picture, and the climb is gentler.

PAINT AS YOU PLAY
- A pixel picture now lies on the floor under your cannon. Every zone you pin throws its paint onto it.
- You paint what you hit. The colours on the target are the colours the picture still needs.
- The picture carries over between runs. Finish one to earn sparks and start the next. There are six.
- The home screen shows the picture you are painting and how far along it is. Tap it to see all six: the ones you have finished, and the ones still to come.

BLOCKERS ALWAYS LEAVE A WAY THROUGH
- On boards with two blocker lanes, the blockers could fall into step with the swing of the target and close every path for a whole board. That is fixed.
- The two lanes now move at different speeds, and the bars are shorter when there are two.

A GENTLER CLIMB
- The first board is unchanged. From there, every board steps up by about a third less than it used to.
- The second blocker lane now arrives on board 17 instead of board 13.

A CLEARER SCREEN
- A bigger cannon, and an aiming line that runs the whole way up to the target.
- Taller colour zones on the target, and a floor you can tell from the wall.
- A softer hit: the screen no longer jolts on every pin.
- An animated hint shows the one control: drag to aim, lift to throw.
- A new app icon: the target up close, with the paint flying off your hit.

SECOND CHANCE
- When you lose your last life, the run-over card can offer to watch a short ad and keep going: one life back, on the same board, with your score kept. It is optional, appears at most once per run, and has no countdown.

DOUBLE YOUR SPARKS
- When a run ends with sparks earned, the run-over card can offer a button to watch a short ad and double them. It is optional and appears once per run.

ADS BETWEEN RUNS
- This version adds an occasional full-screen ad when you leave the run-over card. It never appears during a run, never in your first three runs, never right after a new best, and never twice within a minute and a half.

### 2.2.0 — 2026-09-18

A gentler start, a clearer board, and a run that climbs in steps.

AN EASIER OPENING
- The first boards swing slower, the zones are wider, and every board has three more seconds on the clock.
- Difficulty now climbs in steps of five. Every fifth board is a peak, and the one after it eases off, so the hardest board yet is followed by room to breathe.
- New zones and new blocker lanes arrive on those easier boards, never on a peak.

A CLEARER BOARD
- The board clock now runs along the top of the target itself, right where you are looking. It turns orange, then pulses red as time runs out.
- The target and the knives are bigger, so a planted knife is easy to see.
- The hint line sits on its own card, so the aiming line no longer runs through it.
- A cleaner backdrop: no drifting specks, no shadow band behind the target.
- Scores read with separators everywhere, and long ones always fit beside the combo.

THE MENU
- The home screen shows the target with your knives in it, and your stats sit on solid cards.
- The minus and plus buttons in Gear Up are centred.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-10

Rebound is a completely new game.

The paddle, the ball and the bubbles are gone. In their place: a cannon on a rail that throws knives straight up at a target bar swinging across the top, past blocker bars that carry stray throws off the screen.

- Limited knives and a board clock, so every throw is a decision rather than a retry.
- Knives stick where they land, in the target or in the blocker that took them.
- Boards escalate, and clearing board 6/11/16 permanently unlocks starting there.
- Earn sparks per board; spend them before a run on knives, time or an extra life.
- Rebuilt visually from the ground up — new field, new target bar, new cannon, new icon.
