### 4/5 — Docs357

*2013-12-17, version 2.0*

It's fun it lets you fine tune the photo they way you like It. If your into photoshop for fun and eye catching pictures it does Rock. A real plus in addition to any photoshop bag of tricks.

### 5/5 — Always Amazing...and 2.0 Update is like Steroids!

*2013-02-22, version 2.0*

The 2.0 update with "Style" function is unbelievable! The ability to get under the hood and fine-tune the settings and save presets (plus the addition of several useful stock presets) makes this a whole new ball game for Painteresque.
_______

Painteresque is original and different--the kind of boutique-y app you get after you have all your core editing tools and you're looking for some special pizzazz. It provides an output that's riveting and unlike any other.

As a Photoshop user for 19 years (used to its price, plus plugs $) I'm always game to spend a couple of bux to try an innovative iOS app like Painteresque. As with all other fx apps, I don't look at the output as final; I subtly layer it into the image. And again, when Painteresque hits the mark, it's a beautiful sight!

As a painter, I can't say Painteresque images are discernibly painterly--even in an "-esque" fashion, but that obviously takes nothing away from Painteresque's extreme utility.

No matter how you slice it: recommended. And a big cigar to the Dev!

### 5/5 — New Favorite!

*2013-02-11, version 2.0*

With 20+ apps that change photographs into art, I thought I had everything and then I discovered Painteresque. The basic 2 styles produce the "dirtied" image that looks like a lithograph. With a few exceptions (very light images, faces, and images without detail) the style is amazing and creates images I've blown up to 17x13 and look like true illustrations. The Rainbow, Mars, and Portrait are my least favorite styles, but when you find the photo for them, they work like magic!

In my wishlist for this app are more levels of Painteresque style, adjustable effects, layers, and edges. Get this!

### 5/5 — Great for Scrapbooking

*2013-02-06, version 2.0*

I like Paintersque so much that I recommended in in my book "Scrapbooking on the iPad"

### 5/5 — Very good

*2013-01-14, version 2.0*

The program is fun, has good presets, lets you adjust those presets further if you want, and can be used for some serious artsy stuff. Look forward to its future.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app for landscapes!

*2013-01-12, version 2.0*

This app quickly and simply produces some great results with both color and black and white landscape photos.
Because of the type of output it produces I wouldn't recommend it for portraits but that said, I have amassed over 70 photo apps and this is definitely one of my top 5, a consistent go-to.
Anytime I have a nice landscape I create a Painteresque version of it!

### 3/5 — Almost, but not quite

*2013-01-09, version 2.0*

This application has a few very nice effects. It lacks ability to send a finished picture to Twitter or Facebook. With the addition of a few more effects and the ability to send edited pictures elsewhere, it would be a better product and worth the price. As it stands now, it is overpriced.

### 5/5 — Paintersque

*2013-01-07, version 2.0*

Simply outstanding. Easily used. Distinctive, appealing images easily created. A bargain.

### 5/5 — A perfect photo app!

*2012-11-11, version 2.0*

You will be applying this to all your photos if you've not uses it before. Wonderful effects.

### 5/5 — Susprise!

*2012-11-08, version 2.0*

Painteresque was always a good app. I've been using it for several months, loved the effect but found it too strong so I often blended the Painteresque version back into the original. So this morning I noticed styles and fine tuning - OMG! A bunch of presets and ways to fine tune the effects. Wonderful update. Now this app gets five stars and will get more use.

### 4/5 — Love it

*2012-10-18, version 2.0*

It just brings photos to life in a charming and satisfying way. Not every photo works, but when it does it's really a home run. My only criticism is that it tends to be a little too blotchy for my taste in the sky portions of landscapes. As others have said, I would like more controls to vary the styling--or at the very least the intensity of the effect. More controls would be especially helpful if offered in tandem with a masking feature.

----

Edit for new version.

Thanks to dev for giving us more controls/options, but given the relatively long processing time, without a preview mode it's very much hit and miss when you mess with the controls. So a preview mode with (more or less) realtime feedback on changes to the result when moving a slider is needed.

### 5/5 — This has been one of my favorite apps for a while

*2012-10-13, version 2.0*

The latest features in this app make it outstanding. Super job.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes Immediately

*2023-11-17*

I can't even explore the possibilities of this app. It crashes Immediately.

### 1/5 — Won’t save images

*2018-12-01, version 2.1*

Upgraded to iPhone XS Max. App no longer saves images after processing.

**Developer response:** Update 2.2 (just out) should fix it.

### 1/5 — It's 2017!

*2017-07-21, version 2.1*

UPDATE pleaseeeee!!!

### 1/5 — What a waste of money

*2016-09-29, version 2.1*

Want to edit .... You get a tiny little picture of your photo in a box, up at the top. You can barely see what's happening until you hit done. Each step, have to hit done, then wait while it loads. You spend 90% of time waiting for stuff to load. Same with a preset. Doesn't scroll through. You have to load each and everytime. There are so many other apps out there that are far better than this mess.

**Developer response:** You can drag the preview icon larger if you wish.

### 1/5 — Not impressed

*2015-06-07, version 2.1*

Hate all the choices I find them very amateurish at best! Waste of money!

### 1/5 — not worth 1,99

*2012-05-18, version 1.0*

this app apply just 1 efx in photos, with no adjusts, no configs... not worth 1,99!! there are lot of free photo and image apps that do more than this... i think the developer of painteresque have to think about this price... this is NOT a 1,99 app... DON'T BUY IT!!!

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2013-03-20, version 2.0*

There's no preview of what the fine tuning might possibly be doing and then no opacity control which would also help fine tune. Very slow to process. I like the look and would use it if I hand some ability to control the final product. I'll wait for upgrades...you should too

### 2/5 — I've cold freeze up.

*2013-02-02, version 2.0*

Always after taking a picture, it totally locks up. Needs to be fixed as it did one picture and now won't even work on my iPad 2.

### 2/5 — Freezes

*2013-01-22, version 2.0*

When using this on my Ipad 3rd generation the application keeps freezing after taking a picture and clicking save. It does not happen all the time. When a fix is provided then I will give this app 5 stars because I absolutely love it.

### 2/5 — Ok, but not much more

*2012-03-23, version 1.0*

I know i only spent the cost of a small coffee, but that coffee might have been a better way to spend my money. As another reviewer indicated, this app is very hit or miss and lacks controls. Useful for pictures of architecture, but apply the effect on a portrait and they look horrible. Worth 99c until they add more controls.

Ps the lovely progress copy gave me a hearty laugh, which is worth the second star.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Truly amazing

*2019-01-20, version 2.2*

I use it a lot for surf photography. It can transform a marginal shot into an amazing one. Even if the original is out of focus. It really brings out an entirely new perspective on one’s photos. Love it!

### 5/5 — One of my favorites

*2018-12-13, version 2.2*

Great app. I particularly like the Painteresque 2 for a watercolor effect. Easy to use for a new dimension to your photographs.

### 5/5 — Amazing and beautiful !!!

*2016-10-01, version 2.1*

Hands down my most favorite processing app now for several years in a row!! Absolutely stunning and amazing with nature portraiture, landscapes and architecture!!
Great fine-tuning options too!
No other app has this level of aesthetics in the resulting image!

### 5/5 — An Exceptional Effects App

*2016-02-25, version 2.1*

This was my first photo effects app when it came out in version 1. I loved its simplicity - turning me from a so-so snap shooter into a creator of art works I loved. I still go back to my earliest edits with appreciation, and some of my friends like them best. With version 2 I have more control thanks to the fine tuning option. Today I use Painteresque mostly as one stage of my effects as there is nothing else quite like it. Thank you for an inspiring app that has more flexibility than first appears and does what it does with no fuss and beautifully. It's worth every penny. Well done.

### 5/5 — Super!

*2015-11-23, version 2.1*

Easy to use. Turns good photos into great pictures!

### 5/5 — Super Awesome ! ! ! !

*2015-05-31, version 2.1*

Paintersque is my number one favor ! Many people asked me how to do that !
I use my iPhone 5 all time , just shoot and Paintersque and send. That is real easy. I will frame many picturesque pictures.

### 5/5 — She's a Beauty

*2015-03-15, version 2.1*

A one of a kind image processes. Nothing else does this kind of magic. This is unique and the results are beautiful. You will learn quickly what works and what does not. Landscape and architecture are consistently amazing.

### 5/5 — Mad Love

*2015-03-06, version 2.1*

This is my favorite photo filter by far and I have them all. I would give this app 10 stars if I could!

Used on the right pictures and with judicious restraint it makes textures really pop. I particularly love Painteresque for stone, wood, foliage and fur. Simply stunning on most textured objects. It does not look good on smooth surfaces such as skin or sky.

Props to Simon Funk for making such a fantastic filter app. Please consider making Painteresque available for as an app for the Mac. I would love to be able to easily use in in conjunction with Photoshop. Right now I’m doing this but it is cumbersome to have to import the photos between the iPad and Mac

### 5/5 — Great update for iOS 8

*2014-10-28, version 2.1*

Finally updated and works great and super fast with iOS 8. Such a fabulous app. Works great for pets and for cityscapes.

### 5/5 — Wonderful!!!!!!

*2013-12-03, version 2.0*

I live in a American Victorian town. This app allows us to take an old photo and make it more interesting and artistic for marketing brochures.
