## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2025-11-13

Fundamental Changes:
- Restructured the event architecture in the database such that users on this version will be able to see events (those created after this update) picked first from their own location, then from other locations. That means a user being shown events is not necessarily dependent on them having location services turned on. If there are currently events happening, they will still be shown events, albeit less relevant ones.
Big Additions:
- Added the ability to create a “Breakout Chat” from a larger chat with just people users choose.
- Added the ability to make collabsules private to just the people involved.
- Made it so the future pals in your area section says if you have pals in common with potential future pals.
- Made it so users can earn 10 PalPoints for inviting friends to the app or sharing their PalPoints with friends through fistbump missions.
- Added the potential for the persistent notification at the top of the notifications page to tell users they can earn 10 PalPoints by sharing the app with friends. Clicking that will open the share sheet.
Small Additions:
- Made it so the profile picture of the person sending you a future pal request / the person you’re being introduced to shows up in the additional information of the notification. The additional information itself is also more clearly laid out.
- Added a confirmation dialogue pop up when sending a future pal request to someone.
- Added the potential for “Go to App Store” and “Invite Pals” buttons to the News from Spire section.
- Made it so users can view their birthday in the account information page.
- Made it so the PalPoints milestone shareable asset includes a randomly chosen message.
- Made it so users can swipe to the side on a profile to exit it.
- Added a “tap to open collabsule” message to the top of the event page to make it clearer how users can access the collabsule.
- Added a small chevron and “more” to the capsule and collabsule lists to show users can scroll to see more.
- Added “days” to the Daily Question streak marker.
Small Changes:
- Made it so there’s a 1 in 5 chance of the “Invite your pals” fistbump mission being shown, even if the user already has pals.
- Made it so the shareable invite card doesn’t include PalPoints if the user doesn’t have any yet.
- Made the catching up and out and about pages much more consistent and visually appealing.
- Made the “add” button for future pals much clearer and added a proper loading state while the request is sending.
- Made the daily question streak more visible against the background.
- Made the padding around headers and tabs much more consistent.
Bug Fixes:
- Made it so more than just the most recent ten capsules show up for users.
- Made it so conversations opened from a notification don’t sometimes yield an “invalid conversation” state.
- Made it so all messages properly load when a conversation is opened from a notification.
- Made it so the persistent fistbump reminder at the top of the notifications page doesn’t rapidly cycle through the user’s friends.
- Made it so the notification tabs on the notifications page properly filter the notifications by type.
- Removed ambiguous characters from event invite code generation.

### 1.10.0 — 2025-11-05

Big Additions:
- Made it so users can mute specific conversations
- Made it so users can save individual photos and videos from a capsule or collabsule.
- Made it so there’s a pop up informing the user that they need to update the app if there’s a new version available.
Efficiency Improvements:
- Made it so not all messages in a conversation load immediately.
- Made it so not all event attendees load immediately.
- Made it so message notifications are batched instead of being sent individually.
Bug Fixes:
- Made it so videos saved from capsules and collabsules have the proper timestamp.

### 1.9.0 — 2025-10-31

Significant Additions
- Created significantly improved event, PalPoint, and Daily Question shareable assets.
- Added a shareable asset that’s purely for inviting new people to the app.
- Made it so clicking capsule like, event join, conversation start, successful future pal request, and successful introduction request notifications in-app actually takes the user to the right place.
- Added a persistent notification at the top of the notifications page that singles out one pal and states how long it has been since them and the user last fistbumped. The weather symbol is shown there as well.
- Made it so the empty state of the notifications page shows a list of mock notifications to demonstrate what they would look like.
Additions:
- Added a fistbump mission that suggests the user introduce two of their non-connected friends.
- Added a fistbump mission for sharing the app invite card with friends.
- Added a fistbump mission for sharing the user’s PalPoints when they reach a new milestone.
- Added two new emoji reactions for messages in conversations.
- Added deep linking for push notifications that relate to someone joining the user’s event.
- Made it so the weather symbol associated with a friend is shown on the conversation with that friend.
- Made it so the results page shows up no matter what after guessing friends’ answers to the Daily Question.
Efficiency Improvements:
- Made it so notifications are loaded gradually as the user scrolls through them.

### 1.8.0 — 2025-10-23

Significant Additions:
- Replaced the “Pals You’ve Seen Recently” and “Pals You Need to See More” sections on the Catching Up page with “Fistbump Missions,” which encourage fistbumping, joining events, and interacting with friends.
- Made it so users can rearrange photos when creating a capsule.
- Made it so clicking notifications regarding collabsule updates actually opens that collabsule on launch.
- Made it so clicking a completion notification from a future pal request or introduction request takes you to that new pal’s profile on launch.
- Made it so collabsule invites and join requests direct the user to the notifications screen on launch.
Big Efficiency Improvements:
- Made it so public events and past public events are loaded on a background thread.
- Made it so event collabsule objects aren’t loaded with events initially. Instead, they’re loaded when a user actually taps on that specific event.
- Made it so photos don’t get compressed nearly as much.
Small Changes:
- Made it so event cards clearly articulate if the event is upcoming, active, or ended with start time or end time displayed accordingly.
- Made it so there’s a confirmation before deleting a conversation.
- Made it so the lastFistbumped date is hidden on Future Pal profiles.
- Made it so individual conversations show the weather symbol for that friend.
- Made it so clicking the header of an individual conversation takes users to that friend’s profile.
- Made it so notifications are stacked in the Notification Center based on type, rather than having them all in one stack.
- Made it so the user’s own events are properly sorted by start / end date.
- Made it so Future Pals in Your Area are randomized every time users open the app.
- Made it so event collabsules are always displayed additionally in the regular collabsules list for navigation ease.
Bug Fixes:
- Made it so events properly show up immediately after a user joins them.

### 1.7.0 — 2025-10-17

Large Additions:
- Added proper deep linking for notifications that should lead to the notifications page and made it so clicking on a notification relating to a conversation will open the app to that conversation directly.
- Made it so event chats show up in the normal conversations list area for navigation purposes.
Large Removals:
- Removed the Pull-Ups system (temporarily).
Small Additions:
- Made it so the “No Public Events” card explains that the user needs to enable location permissions if they’re not already granted and provides a button that refreshes the location and public events.
Small Changes:
- Made it so there are just two big buttons for getting involved on the social life page: Create Event and Join Event. Clicking the Join Event button now goes to a separate screen that prompts the user to choose either fistbump invite or event code.
- Made it so the app defaults to opening onto the Catching Up page.
- Made it so the empty state of the catching up page is specific to whether or not users have pals.
- Changed the error message when entering an event code to make it clearer.
Efficiency Improvements:
- Made it so conversations are loaded in batches as they are needed.
- Made it so a user’s first batch of capsules isn’t loaded until the user goes to their page.
- Made it so a user’s own events are fetched sequentially to avoid clogging the main thread.
- Made it so only the covers for the events immediately shown on the social life are loaded at first. The rest are loaded when the user clicks the full list for their events.
Bug Fixes:
- Made it so new messages are properly loaded no matter where the user is when they are received. This is a fix to a bug that made only the most recent message appear.
- Made it so the onboarding tutorial doesn’t pop up every time there’s an app update.
- Made it so public events the current user is NOT a part of don’t randomly show up in the events they’re attending list.
