## What is Palate Journal?

Palate Journal is a private restaurant journal — a place to keep a record of the meals worth remembering, the dishes that surprised you, and the rooms you'd return to. No reviews to publish. No followers. Just your own quiet guide to the places you love.

Each restaurant earns a tier mark — three stars for a journey, two for a detour, one for a very good meal in its category, plus Bib, Plate, Watching, and a private Blocklist. The system is yours; the marks are yours; nobody else sees them.

Add a place in seconds: tap +, find the restaurant from a search or a dropped pin, give it a tier, and write as much or as little as you like. Photograph the dishes. Tag the companions. Note the occasion. Each visit becomes a card in your guide.

Every December, Palate Journal renders your year as a beautifully typeset PDF — a print-ready volume of the restaurants you visited, the dishes of your year, and the patterns hidden in twelve months of eating. Print it. Share it. Shelve it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.8 — 2026-07-13

• A redesigned Annual Edition — your year in restaurants as a keepsake guide, with a cover, full-page plates for your standout spots, and cleaner, more editorial pages throughout.

• Search restaurants beyond your immediate area — find and add places anywhere, not just what's nearby.

### 1.6 — 2026-05-11

In this issue

Your annual guide, with your photos. Exported PDFs now print the photos you've taken on each visit instead of placeholder swatches.

Smarter restaurants when adding from your library. Palate reads your photo's location to suggest places near where the meal actually happened and lets you search Google Places by name when the right one isn't in the list.

More ways to share. A redesigned share sheet sits Facebook and TikTok next to Instagram Story, each with its proper brand mark.

Sign-in stays out of the way. The form lifts cleanly above the keyboard — no more overlap with the masthead.
Easier on the eyes. Sharper labels and prompts on the sign-in screen, especially in dark mode.
A clearer Add Companion button. The "+" is now an obvious round button so you can't miss it.

### 1.5 — 2026-05-04

§ Revisions for this edition.

The map has been redrawn. Search now reaches fifty miles from the center — pull up any restaurant nearby, not only the ones you've already been to. Tap a pin to open its page.

Older entries are now editable. Add the note you forgot, the companion who came along, the occasion that made it worth remembering. Reset a rating once an opinion has had time to settle.

The tab bar has been refitted in the new iOS material — translucent now, with the active tab in house red.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-05-02

A few corrections from the press. Dark mode reads true again. Type that had blended into the binding is properly inked.

### 1.0 — 2026-04-30

No release notes.
