### 1.8 — 2026-10-23

Palate 1.8 is served!

Never forget a great meal
Meet Background Visit Detection. Palate now notices when you've stopped somewhere to eat, and once you leave, it simply asks which spot it was. One tap and the visit is in your diary. No more trying to remember where you had that amazing ramen last Tuesday: your food diary finally keeps up with you. Let Palate check in in the background and it works even when the app is closed. Nothing is ever logged until you pick, and you can turn it off any time in Settings > Notifications > Dining check-ins.

A fresh start
Sign-in and onboarding are redesigned from the ground up, and a sleek new home bar puts Home and your profile side by side.

Search that knows what you mean
One smarter list puts what you meant first, keeps results close to where you are, and shows dishes right alongside places.

Richer place pages
Order straight from a place's page, where the restaurant offers it. Jump to a spot's socials, and see shout-outs for the staff who made your meal great.

More of you on your profile
Your handle, follower counts and a brand-new taste mosaic. You can also tag dishes right on your photos.

Better with friends
Find friends already on Palate as you sign up, and discover people worth following right in your feed.

Plus a heaping plate of polish
Photos look and feel the same wherever you open them, tap a city on the zoomed-out map to fly back to its places, saved spots show where you found them (Instagram, TikTok and more) and when, Open in Maps takes you right to the place, menu scans read prices correctly in every currency, and we squashed a pile of bugs along the way.

Happy eating!

### 1.7 — 2026-10-03

Fresh out of the kitchen: Palate 1.7 is here!

See what's cooking around you
The home map now shows what the community is up to. New saves, visits and favorite spots pop up right where you're looking, so there's always something tasty to discover.

Search that gets you
Every result now tells you why it showed up: your own history, a friend's pick, community buzz, or something on the menu. Chains are neatly grouped by brand, and Palate gives you a nudge when you've already been to another location of a place you love.

Your people, closer
Find friends straight from search, meet food lovers nearby, tag who you ate with, and spot new faces to follow right in your feed. Notifications also respect your quiet hours, wherever you are.

Smoother all around
Gliding around the map with photo pins is dramatically smoother, you can swipe back from anywhere, and saved links show off pretty thumbnails instead of plain URLs. Reduce Motion is honored everywhere, too.

Plus a heaping plate of fixes
Menu prices show in their real currency, you stay signed in when your phone is locked, and we squashed a bunch of crashes and little bugs along the way.

Happy eating!

### 1.6 — 2026-09-11

Cities, two ways

Jump to a city to see the places people are saving there, or open your own passport of everywhere you've been. Either one drops you straight onto the map.

Noticeably faster

Most of this release went into speed. Profiles, place pages, search and the feed all open sooner, photos load ahead of your scroll instead of after it, and the app stops asking for things it already has. Search responds from the first character you type.

Better photos and video

A new studio for editing what you post, with a preview before it goes out. Press and hold any photo to peek at it, share straight from the viewer with the normal iOS share sheet, and swipe through all of a post's photos again. Menu scans now run in the background, so you can keep using the app while one finishes.

A clearer map

Pins stop repeating the place you already picked, labels fit longer names and say more about what a place actually is, and the weather layer comes back when you zoom out. Opening a place from someone's profile now takes you there.

Fixes

Likes and saves respond the moment you tap instead of waiting on the network. Editing a post behaves like editing. New lists are public by default, note boxes grow with what you type, addresses show in full, and we fixed a long list of smaller things across the composer, search and place pages.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-30

Edit a visit after you've posted it

Changed your mind about a photo, a dish, or a note? Open anything in your diary and edit it. Every change now saves together in one go, so an interrupted edit can't leave a visit half-updated.

A map that reads at a glance

Pins now show what a place actually is, with its cuisine and specialty reflected in the icon, and a gold disc for the places you've saved. Labels sit beside the pin and lead with the most useful thing we know about a place, and a new compact pin fills the gap between a plain dot and the full pin as you zoom.

Search that gets you there faster

One search surface for places and cities, now with real addresses so you can tell two similarly named spots apart, suggestions as you type, and a quicker jump between cities.

Roomier Settings, Notifications and Activity

Settings and Notifications open as full screens that slide over the map instead of cramped sheets. Activity is now a single list grouped by time, with your taste highlights up top.

Better photos and video

The media viewer opens on the photo you actually tapped, stops cropping your pictures to fill the screen, and frames video covers where the video really plays. Tap a place's name in the viewer to jump straight to it.

Menus stay separate

Places with more than one menu — dinner, drinks, brunch — no longer get blended together when you pick a dish.

Fixes

Photos no longer upload twice from a restored draft, and editing a post no longer deletes its own photos. We also fixed several crashes, audio not resuming after a video, pins flickering while you pan the map, and a few places where raw internal labels could show up in the app.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-09

Here's what's new in this update:

• Photos and videos now open right where you tapped, and swipe smoothly from one to the next
• Moving between screens feels smoother and steadier
• Your places stay put on the map, even right after opening the app
• Signing in is more dependable
• Faster, smoother scrolling through your profile
• The app icon now matches your light or dark home screen
• Weather reads cleaner at a glance
• Plenty of polish and stability
