## What is Paleon?

Paleon is a daily nature learning app. Take 5-minute lessons about animals, dinosaurs and the natural world, identify any plant, animal or rock with your camera, and read about new discoveries every day.

Paleon is made by the team behind the Paleon nature and prehistory videos on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

LEARN NATURE IN 5 MINUTES A DAY
Each lesson teaches one idea, then checks it with 8 quick questions: multiple choice, fill in the blank, match the pairs, true or false. Keep your streak going, earn gems and open a reward chest every 4 lessons. Courses run from the first dinosaurs of the Triassic to the Ice Age and the animals alive today.

IDENTIFY ANYTHING IN NATURE
Point your camera at a bird in the garden, a flower on a walk, a beetle on the porch, a shell on the beach or a strange rock. Paleon tells you what it is and how it lives or how it formed. It works on:
• Birds, mammals, reptiles, insects and spiders
• Plants, trees, flowers and mushrooms
• Shells, rocks, minerals and fossils

ASK ABOUT YOUR FIND
Every scan opens a conversation. Is this a crow or a raven? Why do woodpeckers not get headaches? How old is this ammonite? You get a clear answer about the exact thing in your photo.

NEW DISCOVERIES EVERY DAY
Paleon's news feed covers the latest research on animals, evolution, early humans, ancient oceans and fossils, explained in plain English. Only real studies, published in the last day or so.

COLLECT THE ATLAS
Spend your gems on illustrated profiles of real animals, from the peregrine falcon and the great white shark to Triceratops and the woolly mammoth. 100 animals across six collections, with rarities from Common to Mythic.

WHO USES PALEON
• Anyone who wants to learn something real about nature every day
• Birdwatchers, hikers and gardeners
• Adults who loved dinosaurs and animals as kids and never stopped
• Parents exploring outside with their children
• Students, homeschoolers and museum visitors

SCIENCE YOU CAN CHECK
Lessons are written from published research and reviewed before they go live. Every Atlas profile goes through three fact-checks. When scientists disagree or don't know yet, Paleon tells you.

Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Korean.

Paleon is free to download. Paleon Premium unlocks unlimited scans and every lesson. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and you can manage them in your App Store account settings.

### 4/5 — Great Idea!

*2026-10-17*

I’m a huge dinosaur fan and I love love love the idea of Duolingo for dinosaurs but I wish the learning aspects of the app were expanded. Each of the levels really need some kind of lesson so that you aren’t just guessing and checking. Id really like learning the information in a way that won’t kill all of my lives or encourage me to just google answers. Overall though really great concept! Losing the AI would also be pretty cool but it seems like y’all are already working on that. For your first app you did a really great job!

### 5/5 — One of the best apps out there!!

*2026-10-06*

This app is absolutely great! I’ve had an awesome time learning about different prehistoric creatures and digging up fossils to analyze! For anyone wanting to get an app specifically directed toward fun paleontology, this is the one to get! The only problem on my end is that I cannot go to other places to dig fossils, and it restricts me to a certain spot for some reason. The background doesn’t appear either, and it says I need an API key. But other than that, this is probably the best paleontology app I have ever gotten! 10/10, would definitely recommend.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2026-09-01*

It seems like it checks out every website for accuracy good on the for the next accurate documentary

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! We’re glad you’re enjoying Paleon and finding the information useful and accurate. We really appreciate the support. Have a great day!

### 1/5 — ..

*2026-08-30*

the answers always go from A-B-C-D then repeat.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! The answers are randomized, but sometimes you can unfortunately get the same A-B-C-D pattern across a few lessons by chance. We understand that can feel repetitive, and we’ll keep improving the quiz experience. Thanks for pointing it out, and have a great day!

### 5/5 — Developers listen to feedback!

*2026-08-26*

I’ve been following this project for a long while and I’ve watched them iron out kinks consistently and listen to feedback. I can finally happily say they’re officially switching to REAL paleo art, no more AI! This was honestly my biggest hang up about the project and this change means a great deal to me. The substance of the app continues to grow and become a better learning platform for all things paleo. A must have for dinosaur nerds.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the review and for supporting Paleon for such a long time. Feedback like this genuinely means a lot to us. We’re a small team, and figuring out what works best is not always easy, so hearing directly from people who use the app helps us enormously.

We’re always trying to improve Paleon, listen better, and make the experience more useful and enjoyable. We’re very thankful for people like you who take the time to give thoughtful feedback and help us build a better app. Have a great day!

### 1/5 — Ai

*2026-08-14*

The use of ai is disrespectful to real nature and a shameful act on the paleontological community.

**Developer response:** We understand the concern. AI artwork was a temporary solution for our first version, but we’ve now partnered with paleoartists. Starting with our next major update, we’ll be replacing the AI images with artwork from real artists. Thanks for the feedback.

### 5/5 — dinosaurs

*2026-08-13*

this is literally the app i always wanted as a kid

**Developer response:** That is so great to hear! have a good day!

### 1/5 — Get rid of the AI

*2026-08-11*

^

**Developer response:** We are in the next update, stay tuned! and have a great day!

### 2/5 — Inaccurate. Doesn’t count birds as dinosaurs.

*2026-08-10*

I know specifying “non-avian dinosaur” every time your tss asking about dinosaurs going extinct gets tiring, but it’s an educational app. The fact that birds are dinosaurs is the best dinosaur fact. I know that dinosaur can also be used as an umbrella term for extinct prehistoric animals but that’s not how the app uses it as it has questions about if pterodactyls are dinosaurs.
As an educational tool, it should be accurate, so squeeze in a quick “nonavian” before dinosaur if the question has anything to do with extinction. It’s not that hard ffs.

**Developer response:** You’re absolutely right. For an educational app, this distinction matters. We’ll make sure extinction questions refer specifically to non-avian dinosaurs, while keeping it clear that birds are living dinosaurs. Thanks for calling this out!

### 5/5 — AI…

*2026-08-09*

I think they use AI in their images which is fine for some people but I don’t like it.
Update: they replied and in the new version they are replacing all AI images with real paleo art. I am eager to redownload and learn without feeling like I’m betraying real human art and contributions to paleontology. Thank you for acknowledging your community!

**Developer response:** We completely understand that AI-generated images aren’t something everyone wants to see in a paleontology app. In the new version, we’re removing all the AI-generated images currently in Paleon and replacing them with real paleo art.
