Switching strings, it stays on the previous string for around 5 seconds. To get the previous helpful display, one has to hold the phone horizontal which it can’t be locked in. Making the tuner directional was a money grab to try and make customers pay for the premium version to retain a familiar platform. No one has ever needed a giant sinusoid to tune their instrument. It’s simplicity is a great feature when I work with students however, during the past several months, there has been explicit ad material from a few vendors that are so egregious and inappropriate I may have to use another app when I’m working with my kids. It looks obscene. Just opened it today and was very pleasantly surprised by the UI adjustment. For years there was only a horizontal view and no waveform on the screen to see how close/far off the string was when being played (used to show that a string could be like 30 cents off then back to normal but there was no way to see the actual difference - super helpful in identifying when there’s an issue with a specific string).
