## What is Pantograph?

Pantograph gives you insights into your travels—and the whole transit system—like no app before it. Every active bus, train, ferry, and streetcar from supported agencies is visible on one map, empowering you with information only before seen by dispatchers. Plus, when you know your stop, see realtime departure estimates for every route arriving.

Pantograph is named after the part of an electric train that connects it to the overhead electrical wire—just likes it connects you vital information about the transit network.

Key features:
• Identify at a glance areas where vehicles across all routes are getting delayed.
• View statistics for all vehicles on the map, including how many are on-time, running later than usual, currently serving each route, and more.
• View current vehicle passenger load and capacity (supported agencies only).
• See route and stop schedules with realtime updates based on current conditions, and save favorite stops for later.
• Customize what data is displayed on vehicle icons.
• See an up-to-the-minute report on how many trips are being missed each day.
• Add widgets showing the status of a selection of routes.
• Learn exactly which bus, train, or ferry is serving each trip, as well as its model information—helping you get a more enjoyable ride.
• View the full set of trips each vehicle will be serving today, as well as each trip's full stop schedule.
• Browse the daily timetables for each route, plus use an advanced Block Timeline to see vehicle schedules.
• Explore the full assignment history for every route and vehicle, helping you learn what routes get certain kinds of buses, track down the bus you left your headphones on, follow new additions to the fleet, and more.

With a Pantograph Pro subscription, you can also:
• Take advantage of a powerful filtering system, allowing you to show vehicles only on certain routes, from certain agencies, and more.
• See how "normal" a specific bus's current schedule delay is, gaining further insight on current system performance.
• Customize the app, such as changing the app icon to a variety of different color schemes, or controlling which buttons appear in the action bar.

### 5/5 — Great for people who frequently ride public transit!

*2026-06-03*

One of the best apps I’ve used for tracking RIPTA and MBTA. I’m a frequent bus/train rider and this app lets you save stops as favourites, and it shows you departure times and where your bus/train is on the map.

### 1/5 — The most confusing and cluttered app

*2026-05-24*

Just wanted to see rail and ferries only, no buses. Disabled all agencies for San Francisco and then turned on only Muni, Bart, CalTrain and Ferries. Unfortunately, of course, turning on Muni shows you both buses and rail, which should be separated. Also, none of the rail line routes were shown unless you tapped on an icon for that line. This app gave me a headache. Very unfortunate. I had heard that this app was was “the best.”

### 4/5 — Not perfect but mostly good

*2026-04-21*

Marin Transit hasn’t been updated in over a year, which is the only agency in the app that seems to not appear. For all of the other regions, they’ve been mostly reliable and helpful to know and learn and use.

### 4/5 — Please add Chicago!

*2025-12-20*

This app is great, would love to see the Chicagoland region added

### 3/5 — it used to be good

*2025-09-25*

this app is great for us transit nerds but is slowly getting worse :( there’s a lot of legacy bugs, the developer is unresponsive about new bugs (and unresponsive in general), and when you submit info for new vehicles they don’t get updated. i know the developer is just 1 person and it’s a side project but some general communication around the state of the app would be good. the bugs are slowly growing and its making the app unusable.

### 4/5 — Best but not perfect.

*2025-08-22*

If you’re looking for a transit tracker this is by far the best ever, if your agency is supported. There are flaws though:
#1 Not all agencies are supported.
Many times this is simply because an agency doesn’t have GTFS data (tracking data) available but there are times where it just hasn’t been put on here.
#2 Not all vehicles have info.
Yes “Mr. Pantograph” is not everywhere all at once and probably has not been to all the places in the app, but the solution to this is supposed to be the email channel to send new information about this, but that is dependent on-
#3 UPDATES
I don’t know what “Mr. Pantograph” is doing, I’m not going to go out on whim and say they’re lazy or something, they might have moved on to more important things in their life. But then, why is it, that I am paying for Pantograph Pro and it seems like every year this app is slowly slowly getting more out of date and left behind? Abandoned? For instance, Lane Transit District in Eugene Oregon updated their GTFS data to a new link, the simple solution to this is to change the link to which the GTFS data is collected for Pantograph in the app, but that has not been done, meaning anyone with Pantograph in Eugene is just left in the dust, because some guy hasn’t got around to it.

I want to say Pantograph is amazing, and it is when it works. When it works it gives unmatched information in a very intuitive and simple package. I can say that at least initially there was a lot of passion and thought put into this. But now, it’s flawed. It’s sad to see such an amazing app go by the wayside, to end up half broken like so many passion projects. So close, yet so far.

### 3/5 — This app is great BBBUUUTTTTT…

*2025-02-18*

I love this app because it allows you to see all the buses around you (most of the time, however some agencies don’t support bus tracking) the thing that bugs me the most though is that sometimes when I enter the app, the map is completely empty.

### 3/5 — Good

*2024-06-22*

Good app but the app is always broken and takes weeks to get fixed

### 5/5 — Dev suggestions

*2024-06-12*

Do you mind making a live map no trial subscription and app for free and more

### 1/5 — Not all agencies work.

*2023-09-20*

The app description states Kitsap Transit is included, but that is not true.
