### 5/5 — Absolute Godsend

*2026-07-25, version 2.54.2783*

Incredible app. The free version is solid but wow the paid one is absolutely worth it. I rarely write reviews (sorry everybody else) but this is really fantastic.

### 5/5 — Essential College Student App

*2026-07-22*

I am using it right now and this was exactly what I was looking for. I have an exam in the morning and I had so many readings I needed to do. Thanks to this app I am able to get through all the boring readings I need in order to prepare for my test and save my grade. I am using this app for studying from now on. I am even gonna use it to help me read through big boring books that don’t have any audio. I also like how it highlights the text allowing me to follow along easier. I wish I would have found this sooner.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you're finding Paper2Audio helpful for reading and preparing for your exams. Please email if you ever have more feedback.

### 5/5 — A truly helpful app

*2026-07-19, version 2.53*

Invaluable for listening to PDF articles, and a generous free plan.

### 5/5 — This is so good

*2026-07-17, version 2.52.2776*

### 5/5 — 🏆

*2026-07-16, version 2.52.2776*

This app is awesome!

### 5/5 — Extremely Helpful

*2026-07-14*

Fundamentally, this is an extremely helpful app. The conversion is excellent, the voices are very smooth, and while you’re reading a book it even indicates when there’s an image. If you have notes, it can explain what they mean. It’s immensely helpful. Thank you, Joe and team, for building this, I’ll definitely be using it more. It’s an amazing, extremely well-made app.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback! I've shared this review with my team, and we all appreciate your kind words.

Please email us anytime if you have feature requests or other feedback.

### 5/5 — Absolutely recommend

*2026-07-13, version 2.51.2775*

This app is incredibly simple to use and what sets it apart from competitors is it has non robotic voices available for free! It is sufficient even when using free mode. The only downside is the price of the plus version of the app and if I were to give a criticism I would suggest the developers to create a secondary ‘plus’ option that is cheaper but perhaps has less hours or features than the original, however I find the free version to be great. Thanks for creating the app we all needed!

### 5/5 — Image summary

*2026-07-08, version 2.50.2772*

Here is am update from my last review not only I’ve shown the dedication to the app, but as well as the customer approach, I got a message from them explained to me on how I can do so and now I am more than satisfied. I love this app.

### 5/5 — Incredibly Functional

*2026-06-28, version 2.48.2760*

I don’t usually write reviews but I am beyond impressed by the functionality of this application even as a free tier it is incredibly useful. I have been searching for a while for something just like this. Thank you to the developers for providing this.

### 5/5 — Simply great

*2026-06-19*

I have a subscription to Speechify but have been less than happy about some of the app functionality so I tried Paper2Audio to see how it compared and this beats Speechify hands down. The audio conversion is very good, the free plan gives you 56 hours of audio a week, not a month or a year, you can download the audio so you don’t need an internet connection to listen and there is a good selection of voices. There is excellent support. It is simply great and worth a 5 star review.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your comprehensive review! I'm glad you're enjoying Paper2Audio. Please email us anytime if you have more feedback, or any questions.

### 5/5 — Can’t believe it’s free

*2026-06-09, version 2.45.2750*

Fantastic fantastic app, I download books as PDFs, upload and have a more feature-rich audiobook app than paid alternatives. Would give 6 stars if I could

### 5/5 — Nailed it

*2026-06-07, version 2.45.2750*

Mother of pearl! Would Microsoft Edge & News Over Audio & even newsrooms please take notice - this is not a drill. Y’all did it. (What? Imagine good voices AND _working_ autoscroll for arbitrary text input, saved offline.) Happy to share more w/the team—thank you!!

### 5/5 — Stellar app

*2026-06-06, version 2.45.2750*

I rarely write reviews but this is such a brilliant, feature-rich app with a friendly and responsive developer, that I felt I ought to. I’m really time poor, with lots of reading to do for my job and a toddler so very little time at home. This app lets me prepare when I can’t look at a screen but have mental space - doing chores, on public transport, walking places. I ignore the AI summaries and use it to read academic articles to me. It is feature/rich, constantly updated and has a generous free tier (which I hope will continue to be so). I’m looking forward to further improvements, for example to the UI (which is a bit cluttered and functional), a better icon and especially a widget and Siri shortcuts. But it is already great and if I had more need I would pay for the higher tier without hesitation. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2026-06-02*

The app is great and has really good voices to select. Best of all the developer responds and is always improving. Great free usage too real get to grips with it. Highly recommended.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! Please email anytime if you have more feedback to share.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — pointless

*2026-07-29*

The first time you create an audio file, say from an epub book, you probably won’t realize a voice was chosen for you, like me. I went to go change the voice, and the app makes you create an entirely new file. I expected the voice I chose yet I was given the same voice as the first time, again. I went to change the voice, but now I’m out of free credits, so the app is pointless.

Also, It might be a good quality voice, but good luck changing a voice you don’t like. Why not just be like Speechify? They have good quality voices, a much bigger selection of voices, and instant (not 20 minutes wait) and unlimited access. Why would changing the voice in this app create an entirely new audiobook, which you may not even like, or worse, is the wrong one? Then you can’t use the app anymore. It makes no sense practically speaking.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing this feedback. Our app generates the entire audio file at once, to support offline playback. That's why you have to pick your voice up front and there is a wait while we process your document. You can then pick a different voice and regenerate your audio using the "Change voices" option.

I'm sorry this wasn't clear to you from using our app. We'll work on clarifying our app based on your feedback here.

Please email us as well, so we can increase your quota since the app didn't work as you expected.

### 3/5 — Good, but poor file extension management

*2026-01-16*

I really enjoyed the app from a usability point of view, and the free limits are very generous. However it hijacks the default app status for every file type that it supports, and iOS isn’t super friendly about changing it back. This should at minimum be something that it asks before doing, and should definitely be able to be turned off. I have had to uninstall the app for this reason.

**Developer response:** Hi Nihilentropy,

Thanks for your feedback.

iOS decides which apps can open each file type based on what those apps declare they support. Apple doesn’t provide a way for an app to pop up a "permission" prompt before iOS routes a file type to it. If you’d like to change the default app for a file type open the Files app → long-press the file → Get Info → “Always Open With” → pick your preferred app.

Apple's provides these instructions here, under "Choose a default app for opening a file": https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/find-and-view-files-and-folders-iphe4bff8827/ios

So, you can reinstall Paper2Audio and using those instructions, use another app as your default for any file type. You can also add from Files using the share tool, or add files from your device starting with Paper2Audio's app, to avoid potentially changing your default file handler.

I hope this all helps clarify the situation. Please let me know if you have any questions. If you’re able to try this solution and it works well for you, then you can update your review.

### 4/5 — Image summary

*2026-07-03, version 2.49.2766*

While I love this app and it really helped me with my studies I suggest that you could put in an option whether they could read aloud the image summaries or not cause sometimes I realise that most of the times the reason the audio was long because of reading the image summaries

### 4/5 — Almost perfect i love this thing

*2026-04-11*

extremely generous free plan, really no need to upgrade unless you somehow need more than 56 hours a week and it’s adless. only gripe is the AI sometimes confuses heteronyms (content vs content, read vs read, etc) and uncommon names, but those are easy for me to look past :) text paste box also slightly bugs out when the word count gets around the 13k+ mark but it’s still easy enough to navigate around

**Developer response:** Update: We have fixed the paste box 13k+ word issues. Please update your app and try again. Thank you again for reporting this issue. I hope you'll consider updating your review!

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you're enjoying some of our best qualities.

We're actively working on improving heteronym and uncommon name pronunciation. We hope to release a major improvement soon that we've been testing internally that addresses these issues and a few other types of mispronunciations. It still needs more work though.

We'll look into the text paste box with long text issue you mentioned too.

I hope we can earn a 5th star from you.

Please email if you ever have any more feedback. Your feedback here is super helpful.

### 5/5 — Frictionless Knowledge

*2026-08-16*

Now that the aridity of reading by reading it is fixed by someone else doing it for absolutely free, there is less tension. For this app to offer this for FREE and offer a 56 week refresh, is already great. But you go on and add a viewer where you can highlight, make notes, and it highlights the words as it reads? This is crazy. I’ve already read 10 books with this app that are over 200 pages long and It easily becomes very addicting because you’re making frictionless progress in learning.

The only issue I have is that I have to split books into parts because the free tier has a limit (250 pages). Other than this, phenomenal.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! I'm glad you're enjoying different features in Paper2Audio. Please email us if you ever have more feedback.

### 5/5 — Finally found the one.

*2026-08-15, version 2.57.2790*

I am so impressed with your app. It is intuitive, fast uploading speed and so many different file types supported including EPUB. The voices aren’t robotic. I love that I can read along and highlight my notes as I go. I would love to know which e readers support your app specifically, as that will be a mist when purchasing. Thank you for creating such a great, accessible product.

### 5/5 — This App is saving lives

*2026-08-08, version 2.56.2787*

Every student needs this. You sit while that lady reads out your notes to you and there is a highlight to enable your ages follow. Easy to restart a paragraph if you miss anything. Simple, affordable and does the job. Tkusm

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-08-07, version 2.56.2787*

Overall, the app works well for medicine articles. Occasionally, the audio misreads reference numbers or symbols, which can be confusing. When that happens, I need to replay or re-read the paragraph to understand the meaning. However, generally, the audio and voice are very clear, with a natural tone. You can also change the speed, and the free version offers plenty of audio time. I'm considering upgrading to the paid option. I usually listen to one or two articles daily while preparing for work, and that's what matters most to me.

### 5/5 — Amazing app love the Librarian voice

*2026-08-06, version 2.56.2787*

Only thing I don't like is that I can't categorize outputs by most recently generated at the top and that inputs can be used for Ai training data (correct me if I'm wrong that's what I read online). Would love a one time purchase to pay once and run locally with custom voices on iPhone and Mac.

### 5/5 — Recommended to Fellow PhD Students

*2026-08-05, version 2.54.2783*

As a student in academia with ADHD, it is helpful for me to listen to articles while reading. However, I have been having trouble finding a program capable of accommodating figures, scanned documents, and texts with handwritten notes in the margin. This app has been a gamechanger for me. It does everything I need it to do--AND it's free!? A huge thanks from this student to the developers. The completion of my degree will have been in no small part due to this app.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Way better than the other guys

*2026-08-04, version 2.54.2783*

Such a great app. It’s hard to believe it’s free. And if you have any issues, their customer support is super responsive and helpful.

### 5/5 — Helpful

### 5/5 — Really good app

*2026-08-01, version 2.54.2783*

It’s just a really good when you want to either listen to a book or an article or just about whatever you want, plus you get to listen how new words are meant to be spoken

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-07-29, version 2.54.2783*

This has been exactly what I needed to help write. I can put chapters in and listen to them cause I process them better that way. It’s not perfect but it’s free and easy to use! A must for budget friendly options!!
