## What is Papering?

Papering brings the feel of a ring binder to your iPad. Make it a planner, a journal, a sketchbook, or a place for whatever you want to put on paper.

Paper you can move
Open the rings with the lever. Take out a sheet, change its place, or move it to another binder. Your handwriting and decorations move with it. Turn pages with your fingers and choose a one-page view or a two-page spread.

Choose your inserts
Pick yearly, monthly, weekly, daily, journal, and to-do inserts, or start with lined, grid, dot, or blank paper. Import a PDF as a binder or individual sheets. Use your own PDF or image as an insert design.

Write, decorate, and find
Write and draw with your finger or Apple Pencil. Add stickers, memo notes, photos, washi tape, and index tabs. Search your handwriting; recognition happens on your iPad.

Your writing stays yours
Papering does not collect the contents of your pages. Handwriting recognition runs on your iPad, and sync uses your iCloud account. Your page contents are not sent to a Papering server. No Papering account or separate sign-in is needed.

Free and Pro
The free Free lets you create one binder, with no limit on its sheet count. A binder in the trash still counts toward this limit. iCloud sync and PDF export are free.

Pro is a one-time purchase for unlimited binders, with Family Sharing. There is no recurring subscription. Binders you have already made remain available to open and write in.

Requires an iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Apple Pencil is optional. Available for iPad only.

### 5/5 — The best notes and journaling app on iPad with Apple Pencil support!!

*2026-10-01*

I have been using various notes apps on iPad for the last 2 years and none of them have been designed with this much attention.

Papering is the only app where design meets functionality. It’s full of real-life paper and binder animations, makes you feel like you are using a real page and binder and makes you write on the iPad.

Calendar connections is another big thing - it automatically and beautifully syncs with the calendar and displays the day’s plan in a nice and clean way without intruding on the writing section.

Tons of features on landscape and portrait mode. Full-screen focus mode is also very good with page flip animation making it an ideal real notebook replacement.

There is some initial learning curve but the learning guidebook does a good job explaining it. Once you understand the design and how to use the binders, it’s a magical app to use.

100% recommended as the primary daily driver for all notes and journaling needs for iPad with Apple Pencil.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review.

As the solo developer behind Papering, it honestly means a lot to hear that the little details — the binder, page turning, calendar, and focus mode — are making the experience feel the way I hoped it would.

I’m still at the very beginning, and I’ll keep carefully improving Papering while staying true to that real binder experience. Thank you for being here from the start!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.13.0 — 2026-10-28

There’s a new page menu. Use the page-shaped buttons beside the drawer to share a page as a photo or PDF.
Quickly add an insert with the same design or a favorite insert right after the page from its menu.
The pushpin has become a clip. It grips the top edge of the page, leaving your writing space clear. You can use it from the page menu in landscape.
Use Tidy Handwriting and Scratch to Erase on handwriting over photos and stickers. Tidy Handwriting requires iPadOS 27 or later.

Fixed the page you were writing on becoming hidden when rotating your iPad.
Fixed older, unedited content on another device overwriting newer edits.

### 1.12.0 — 2026-10-25

New Tidy Handwriting feature: Turn on Tidy Handwriting in the palette’s extra tools to redraw new handwriting in your chosen typeface after a short pause. Requires iPadOS 27 or later.
Improved Scissors for photos: Choose freehand or rectangle cutting with Scissors to cut photos into the shape you want.
Improved dates on inserts: Choose written or numeric dates for your inserts in Settings. Written dates are the default, and the setting also applies to inserts already in your binder.
Improved stickers and photos: Make stickers and photos smaller, with sharper details when you zoom in on small stickers and cut-out photos.

Fixed pauses when opening the drawer or adding, moving, and deleting stickers in a large personal collection.
Fixed photos beyond the first 24 disappearing from the list when reopening the photo drawer.
Fixed difficulty tapping typed text over photos and stickers, and text flickering when finishing editing.
Fixed pinch-to-zoom and panning getting stuck on enlarged pages.
Fixed a crash when clicking an index tab with a trackpad.
Fixed taps in the blank part of a date cell on composed monthly inserts unexpectedly opening the daily page.

### 1.11.0 — 2026-10-23

Drag photos from other apps onto the paper and place them where you want.
In cover customization, drop an image or a PDF onto the preview to use it as your cover.
Press and hold an index tab to group your tabs at the top or bottom, or space them evenly.

Fixed selected stickers moving when you pinch to zoom over them.
Fixed index tabs on the back lining not opening their pages when tapped.

### 1.10.0 — 2026-10-21

Use “Add Text” in the top toolbar to type on the paper. With iCloud enabled, typed text also syncs across your iPads.
Change the font, color, size, alignment, and line spacing of your text, then move or rotate it on the page. You can also find typed text in search.
The “Notebook” and “Linen Fabric” covers are now available with Free.
Open any Pro feature to see the same page with a Free and Pro comparison, pricing, and purchase and restore options.

Fixed stickers, photos, and washi tape jumping to the front when dragged within a page. They now keep their stacking order, with the selection handles visible on top.

### 1.9.0 — 2026-10-18

- Bring animated images such as GIFs into the Drawer’s Photos section and place them on the page. You can preview the animation in the Drawer, too.
- Index tabs in the Stationery Shop now appear in clear hanging packages. Open the product details to see how they look on the edge of a sheet.

- Fixed an issue where the Library did not center on the last binder you opened after you fully quit and relaunched the app.
