### 4/5 — Very good, but…

*2026-08-29, version 1.9.2*

I wish it wasn’t dependant on the iOS Files app when connecting to a home (Synology) NAS.

### 4/5 — Excellente idée

*2026-07-31*

### 4/5 — A great idea, well executed

*2026-04-13*

I’m a huge fan of this app. It has a few rough edges but that’s OK because its core functionality seems quite solid.

### 5/5 — Love it.

*2026-04-13, version 1.5.1*

This back up app has immeasurably increased my confidence in the security of my data. Virtually all of my important content is either in my iCloud photos or my iCloud files. Parachute operates easily and efficiently from my new MacBook Neo to secure all of the files I use on my MacBook iPad and iPhone. I highly recommended it.

### 5/5 — Efficient

*2026-04-12, version 1.5.1*

This piece of software provides an additional piece of mind for me for my iCloud files and photos. It’s extremely easy to set up and very efficient. I would recommend it to anyone who needs it.

### 5/5 — Final the solution we have been waiting for

*2026-04-11, version 1.5.1*

I’ve tried many ways to have a reliable way to back up files and photos and this is it. It’s not a subscription. That in itself is very important. Don’t rely on iCloud because when a file or photo is removed on your phone it disappears on your iCloud backup. Buy this. You won’t regret it.

### 4/5 — One of the few options out there

*2026-04-11, version 1.5.1*

Neat solution for on device backups

### 3/5 — Needs restore

*2026-04-10, version 1.5.1*

There needs to be a restoration workflow.

### 2/5 — Not good for large libraries

*2026-02-20, version 1.3.4*

I’ve tried several times now to backup my photo library of about 100,000 files. It will fail consistently at about 60%, and then start back at the beginning. A great idea but unfortunately a waste of money.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-02-09, version 1.3.4*

Thank you for creating this 👌

### 2/5 — Missing features and a bug

*2026-01-21*

I cant backup using mobile data with background automation shortcut. Also please add option to backup specific album only - not all albums are important.
And there is not way to set a folder naming format - storing by album name, or just store it in a single folder, etc.

[Bug] Burst photos all frames not included are not on backup, only the key frame even after the option for all key frame is selected

**Developer response:** Hi! Sorry you weren’t happy with the app, just a note - you do have the ability to enable burst photos in the backup settings section.
You’re welcome to reach out over the support email if you’d like additional assistance.

### 3/5 — Needs direct network connection setup

*2025-12-25*

The app has great potential, but it's currently crippled by an iOS limitation. Backing up to a home server via SMB/WebDAV/SFTP is unreliable because the iOS Files app often shows network shares as read-only . Please add direct, in-app configuration for network protocols so Parachute can bypass this system bug. Until then, the core feature of backing up to user-controlled storage doesn't work for many.

### 3/5 — Conceptually great, but needs some work.

*2025-12-24, version 1.3.4*

When backing up files there seems to be issues with a few files. When these issues appear the app stops backing up files until the user interacts with the popup asking to skip or retry the file back up. No notification is given when this happens so you don’t know the back up has stalled until you open the all. One big quality of life improvement is to have the option to auto skip these issues and continue with the back up. An accueing list of issues should be accessible so we are able to reconcile the issues on our own time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Harmful for iPhone

*2026-07-22, version 1.8.3*

If you want to backup huge iCloud folders (mine is around 900 GB), give it a pass. Drains battery within a few hours with barely 2-3% backed up, and heats up the phone.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2026-05-17*

Want to use it for backing up photos from iPad to external disk. Played 10€ and it can not even access the photos from iCloud. It only copied 5 local photos and the 32000 from cloud just were ignored. Please do not use this App.

**Developer response:** Hi IdleUser12345, here’s Florian, Co-Founder of Leitmotif. I am sorry to read that Parachute Backup does not work for you. Please reach out to us via the Support option inside the app, so we can help find out what the problem is in your specific case. The app works fine for thousands of users, so it can’t be generally ‘unusable’ as you claim.

### 1/5 — This won’t work if you have more than 20k photos

*2026-05-05, version 1.6*

The upload to a hard drive really moves at a glacial pace. I spent three days trying to back up my library and then on one of the days my phone died while I was backing up and I lost all of my progress. I tried to restart backing up, but it has to index from the beginning, and I felt so discouraged. If you feel like watching your phone, pausing before it dies, and then resuming, for like a week and a half this might work.

EDIT: Thank you for the response! I did buy 2 TB of Google Drive space and tried to get the library onto Google Photos-it worked for about two days with no issues, but then failed suddenly at about 40% progress — when it was restarted, I’m not sure if it was scanning, but it was just as slow as the actual uploads, so I gave up. This time the phone was on and connected to power the whole time. I really wanted to love this app!

### 1/5 — Backup never completes

*2025-12-27*

I have about 200GB of photos in my iCloud collection. The backup always stops around half way, and never goes thru. The next time I start, it starts all over, scanning each file individually. Very inefficient.

Furthermore, backup to SFTP is not possible, although it’s claimed in the apps’ description. I wrote the developer by the end of October and haven’t got an answer by the time writing this (end of December)

### 1/5 — Errors out constantly

*2025-10-16, version 1.3.4*

As much as I want to love this app, it constantly errors out on a photo which you have to manually skip and if you’re not around or sleeping, it’ll stop the backup. I wish it would automatically skip errored items or give the option to automatically do this.

Because of this, it makes the app useless to me.

### 1/5 — This fails and fails and fails

*2025-09-30*

For three weeks now I am trying to backup 15 years of photos and videos to my Onedrive. Every time Parachute makes some headway to maybe 50% and breaks off and starts new. Thereby checking every single already uploaded piece of media at about 1 per second taking days. Never manages to complete. What a bummer. Synology Photos does the same thing locally without a hitch. For free.

### 1/5 — its not working

*2025-08-19, version 1.2*

do not buy this app it doesn’t work at all

### 2/5 — Love it…but

*2026-07-02, version 1.8*

The app itself works great. Love it. You can automate it and it does unattended backups on the IPad. On the IPhone 17 Pro, it will not run on automation shortcut. You have to go in and deselect the back up destination which defeats the purpose of automation. I would give it 5 stars if I did not have to go back in every time and respect destination location and hit the play button.

### 2/5 — Room for improvement

*2026-03-03, version 1.3.4*

When the app works(which takes multiple attempts and hours to do) it does what it’s supposed to do . Annoyingly it backs up randomly when connected to power and once the app has run even partially, I have to hard reset my phone because the speaker crack and pop.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — All iPad and iPhone users should use this app…

*2026-08-29, version 1.9.2*

Most folks think that keeping their data in iCloud means that it's backed up and it is. But how important is your data? To have an independent backup gives more confidence. Parachute enables you to have that independent backup.
Parachute is also available for your Mac (I purchased my copy today). The Mac version is just as easy to use as the iOS version and works just as well.
A hint for older device owners; lightning pirt devices backup easier to SD Cards.
Parachute is recommended for iOS devices AND Macs.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2026-08-08, version 1.8.3*

I really like the vision behind this app. It is trying to do something different, and fill a genuine professional gap in IOS / iPadOS functionality (Apple has made the APIs exist under the hood, but no app has exposed that functionality to the user). I can connect an external USB or SSD via USB C and get a useful, fast backup of essentially all my important iCloud data. I can increment the backup from multiple devices e.g. my phone, my iPad. The app has had numerous improvements over the past year, getting faster at backing up photos in particular and having more options to control and organise your backups. With storage getting more expensive and having offline control of your data this app should really become a default system app. There are some UX improvements that can be made, for example backing up to folders by album or having the backup mirror changes but in its current state it is very good.

### 5/5 — Genius

*2026-07-31*

Does what it says - the only thing missing is notes - but still brilliant

### 5/5 — Einfach, schön und transparent zu nutzen

*2026-07-05*

Die Anwendung ist sehr intuitiv zu bedienen. Die Oberfläche ist sehr ansprechend und die Backup-Aufgaben von sogar großen Datenmengen (>20 GB) funktionieren sehr stabil sowohl über iOS als auch macOS

### 5/5 — Take control of your phone backup!

*2026-06-20, version 1.7.1*

I found that Parachute is just straight to the point and provides an incredible option to just Backup your photos, videos and files to Backup destination of your choice. Common destinations Like Google Drive, OneDrive and an S3 bucket or a local NAS

### 5/5 — New user

*2026-06-18*

I have just started using this app, but it looks like it solves enough of my backup issues, so I like that. Also want to thank the devs for adding Shortcuts support, that will also come in handy. Pretty nice app!

### 5/5 — Excellent UI

*2026-06-08, version 1.7.1*

Set up my NAS at home ages ago, this was the app that made it easy to backup 15 years of iCloud files

### 5/5 — Funktionierende App für iCloud Backup

*2026-06-06*

Tolles, gut funktionierendes Backup für das iCloud Drive. Das Userinterface hat noch Weiterentwicklungspotenzial. Schnelle Antwort des Entwicklers auf Fragen.
Ganz wichtig, kein Abo!

Definitiv eine Kaufempfehlung.

### 5/5 — Excellent so far

*2026-04-20, version 1.5.2*

Love the NAS support. Easy to setup

### 5/5 — Best backup for iPad

*2026-04-20, version 1.5.2*

Easy to install and run. It backup photos and videos from iPad in just minutes. Future backups will only copy files not previously backed up.
