## What is Parallax Monitor?

Parallax Monitor is a Nikon Z series camera field-control workspace for operators who need motion control, stills mode, X-Lights exposure, camera-card playback, local viewer screens, diagnostics, and fast set-to-social handoff.

Connect to a compatible Nikon camera, watch Live View, adjust shooting settings, check exposure, tap focus, roll video, capture stills, share the feed to nearby screens, and review camera-card clips without bouncing between tools.

X-LIGHTS EXPOSURE

X-Lights are Parallax's custom exposure assists for quick on-set decisions. They summarize highlight and shadow pressure from the pre-LUT live-view signal, while waveform, histogram, zebras, false color, and exposure posts give deeper confirmation when the shot is critical.

Monitor with a LUT without hiding the signal. Parallax keeps the look and exposure readout separate, so a pleasing preview does not cover up clipped highlights, crushed shadows, or a risky exposure choice.

STILLS MODE

Switch from motion to stills without leaving the operator surface. Parallax supports photo-mode workflows where available, including still capture, photo-focused readouts, tap focus behavior, quick still review, favorite/save actions, and playback-side photo preview.

Use it for BTS frames, thumbnails, continuity references, social images, client stills, or productions where one Nikon body moves between motion and stills.

SET TO SOCIAL REVIEW

Review what you shot while the crew is still packed around the camera. Parallax can scan camera media, load thumbnails, stream playable MP4/MOV clips, scrub takes, check audio, and preview playback through your selected monitoring LUT.

Save source clips to Photos or render a LUT-baked copy from playback for quick sharing, producer review, or handoff to social apps and editors. Less laptop detour, more useful material leaving set while it still matters.

NATIVE H.265 PLAYBACK

Parallax uses iOS-native playback for playable camera files, including H.265/HEVC media where supported by the device, camera format, and connection path. High-resolution files can be reviewed with cache, scrub, volume, thumbnails, favorites, delete, and save workflows.

LIVE VIEW AND GUIDES

Use Live View with LUT preview, waveform, histogram, zebras, false color, focus peaking, X-Lights, camera level, audio meters, recording border, recording timer, presets, and frame guides.

Frame for the edit before the edit asks for it: thirds, golden ratio, safe areas, 1.85, 2.00, 2.39, 4:3, 1:1, 9:16, 4:5, custom aspect ratios, matte controls, guide opacity, and multiple simultaneous guides for cinema, vertical, and social delivery.

Anamorphic monitoring is built in with 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x, and 2x desqueeze workflows.

LOCAL VIEWER SCREENS

Turn nearby iPhones and iPads into extra read-only monitors on the same local network. One host device stays connected to the Nikon camera while viewer devices discover the host and receive the Live View feed for a director monitor, client view, focus reference, or second operator display.

NIKON OPS

Keep operator settings close: aperture, ISO, dual base ISO, shutter speed, shutter angle, exposure compensation, white balance, Kelvin, resolution, frame rate, codec, card slot, timecode, audio input sensitivity, AF trigger, AF mode, AF area mode, and record start/stop where supported.

CONNECTIONS AND FIELD SUPPORT

Connect over Wi-Fi with camera discovery, direct/AP-style connection, pairing support, and quick reconnect. Parallax also includes USB diagnostics, transport switching, connection recovery hints, and support logs to help isolate real-world setup issues.

Compatibility notes: Parallax is fully compatible with the ZR, Z8, Z9, Z50II, and Z6III. Parallax Monitor is independent and is not affiliated with Nikon, RED, or their subsidiaries.

### 5/5 — Powerful stable app

*2026-08-12*

This is the killer app for Nikon ZR and all latest generation Nikon Z cameras. Gives all the functionality and tools that Nikon left out and also can playback footage. And it doesn’t stop there, the app is also a fantastic photo app. You no longer lose the ability to look through your viewfinder or LCD when using the app like with SnapBridge. You can keep shooting and look through the viewfinder and have a client holding an iPad and they can see the shots as they pop up one by one. Then you can quickly review the photos in the app. This is a dream app. And can’t wait for all the future updates coming. The developer doesn’t stop, every week it’s new updates with more powerful tools. One more thing, that app can monitor multiple camera feeds at same time. Bam!!

### 5/5 — Thank You from the Sikes family

*2026-08-01*

Just wanted to say thanks. Keep changing things

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2026-07-29*

this is what was missing from the Nikon Z system, especially the ZR. For someone like me who’s still learning video, it’s made a huge difference. Being able to see what I’m filming in real time on large screen like my iPad has really shortened the learning curve. Instead of guessing I can immediately see what’s wrong. Adjust on the spot and learn much faster. it’s one of those features you don’t realize you need until you start using it.

### 5/5 — Traduction

Une version française serait le bienvenu

### 5/5 — The cure for my fat sausage fingers.

*2026-07-10*

This APP is intuitive and extremely useful. Packed with features to speed up and streamline my ZR workflow. A lifesaver in preventing my fingers from fumbling with tiny buttons and scrolling through menus. Highly recommended. Tip: for those using a lighting connection, you do not need a dongle - a straight up OTG cable will work perfectly.

### 5/5 — You don’t understand

*2026-07-09*

I could go on about this app. They’re really truly are no words for it. The man who took the time to create this. I hope this is something that truly changes your life, and I mean that from a financial standpoint of view. The fact that I literally just filmed a very high-end video in my studio from my chair and then was able to not only film it in raw, but download the MP4 directly to my phone, cut edits and post it without ever having to go to my computer and color grade or do anything in Davinci resolve or my other apps? Dude this is game over territory unbelievable thank you

### 5/5 — 10 Stars

*2026-07-06*

Spread. The. Word. This is the most beautifully-implemented Nikon app out there right now. It’s sophisticated but easy to use, incredibly feature-rich, and extremely responsive. For Video and Photo alike, if you shoot Nikon, get this and dump all the other apps/monitors/etc that you’ve been so frustrated with. This is the one!! Well done!

### 5/5 — Excellent app excellent support

*2026-07-05*

The developer responded quickly to questions like within a few minutes. I get the feeling he really wants to build one of best apps out there . The current functionality is excellent and a great value

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2026-07-04*

One of the most impressive apps I have ever used on a mobile platform that communicates really well with my Nikon Z8 and Nikon ZR. Wow! Also as a developer myself I know how hard it is to develop an app like this. This app is absolutely fantastic and it deserves 5 stars.

### 5/5 — Doing what Nikon has not…thank you!!!

*2026-07-04*

Using this app allows for the proper exposure tools needed. Now the Nikon ZR has traffic lights. I really love that you added multi camera support. Thank you for making an app that Nikon should have put out!!

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-08-11

What’s New!

Parallax Monitor 1.2 is a huge on-set upgrade. We rebuilt the monitoring and review experience, added powerful new creative tools, expanded stills and Multicam workflows, and made camera sessions far more resilient.

A NEW LIVE VIEW

• A redesigned, monitor-first interface gives the camera image more room and adapts cleanly across iPhone and iPad, portrait and landscape.
• Customizable Hot Corners let you put your favorite tools ready for quick access.
• Fully customizable interface, adjust every element of the interface to shape it your way
• Add RGB Parade and vectorscope to the existing waveform and histogram tools.
• Focus Peaking and Zebras now work independently, with improved peaking algorithms and quicker access to all tools modes.
• Compare your look with LUT Wipe, fine-tune it with LUT Match controls, or load a reference frame for opacity and A/B comparisons.
• Monitor Punch adds fast 1x, 2x and 4x inspection with drag-to-pan while keeping overlays and touch focus aligned.
• Power Zoom controls now compatible with your PTZ lenes for remote zoom control right in the app
• Floating scopes, meters, legends and exposure tools can be repositioned, with separate layouts remembered for each orientation.
• New Golden Triangle, diagonal, 16:9 and 3:2 guides join expanded framing controls, adjustable safe-area scaling and improved multi-guide workflows.

SMARTER STILLS

• A persistent self-timer offers Off, 2, 5, 10 or any custom delay from 1–60 seconds.
• Still capture responds faster between shots, with more intelligent autofocus behavior that avoids unnecessary refocusing once your subject is sharp.
• Photo mode now shows shots remaining where supported.
• Immediate review preserves the capture-time exposure settings and AF target, so the information you see belongs to the image you just made.
• Burst and multi-file captures flow into a much more organized review experience.

PLAYBACK, REBUILT FOR THE SHOOT

• Camera- and card-specific gallery mirrors restore cached media quickly and keep available thumbnails and downloaded media reviewable after disconnecting.
• Reconnect and continue: Parallax reconciles the card automatically while guarding against stale media after a card change or format.
• Burst sequences collapse into expandable stacks, while matching RAW+JPEG files appear as one capture with an easy file toggle.
• Add ratings, Pick/Reject decisions and color tags, then filter the gallery to find selects faster.
• Navigate clips and photos with smoother swipes, filmstrips and persistent review controls.
• Preview high-frame-rate clips conformed to 24p, and enjoy refined clip and photo layouts across iPhone and iPad.
• Photo review now includes a real image-sampled RGB histogram plus cleaner metadata and controls.
• Playback caching, media loading, large-file handling and gallery performance received extensive upgrades.

MORE POWER, MORE RELIABILITY

• Expanded Multicam adds coordinated group recording, setting and LUT matching, timecode jam tools, saved camera identities and improved record-start synchronization.
• Remote Viewer discovery and compatibility are more robust across app versions.
• USB startup is faster and more reliable with populated cards because media browsing waits until you actually open Playback.
• Camera commands are now serialized through a safer queue, helping prevent controls, Live View and playback from competing with one another.
• Router Wi-Fi Live View can recover from a timed-out frame connection, with smoother background camera updates during monitoring.
• Unsupported, read-only and recording-locked controls now explain why they are unavailable instead of looking broken.
• Hundreds of interface, layout, playback, focus, camera-control and support improvements are included throughout.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-30

-Full Multicam control center for up to 8 cameras via WiFi
-X-zone and other requested false color updates
-Multiscreen casting, send your monitor feed to all of your devices via Wifi
