## What is Parasocial?

Parasocial is free, and every feature is included. The optional support subscription adds only a Supporter badge.

Your one-sided relationship should be a joy, a distraction, a lesson or a call to action. So why do so many podcast players get in the way? Some lack essential features. Others were never meant to be podcast players at all.

So we built a blazing-fast, feature-dense, always-in-sync podcast player that gets new episodes the second they exist. Now, with sharing and curation at the center.

Open it, and you are back in what you were listening to, at the second you left it, even on another device. Press play and Trim Gaps takes the air out of the conversation: two hours of talk hands back fifteen or twenty minutes, and it still sounds like a conversation. The new episode you were waiting for is already there, because our server is told the moment a show publishes. No account necessary. No ads ever. No invasive tracking. Secure your username and any playlist can go public under it. Anyone with the link can follow and listen as you do. Gather shows into a collection and share the set as one link; followers get the shows, not a snapshot, so it never goes out of date. The Curate tab holds everything you follow and share, with Discover underneath: public playlists and collections from every listener on Parasocial.

### 3/5 — Not Pocket Casts

I found this app via an ad claiming to be free and having the same premium features as Pocket Casts.

It might be free now, but you can see at the bottom of this App Store page that they have IAP’s for monthly and annual membership fees.

I tried it anyway by exporting my podcasts subscriptions over. I played an episode that I hadn’t listened to yet and found that there wasn’t a Transcript feature which I rely on for saving quotes for later. It then tried to queue up every episode in the history of my podcasts subscriptions. I then uninstalled.

I’m not happy with Pocket Casts (e. g. CarPlay shouldn’t require me pressing play on my iPhone to start listening), but this isn’t the replacement that was advertised.

Those membership fees are optional. All the features remain free, but you can choose to support us. 

Not only did we fix the transcriptions for you, but we also made them easy to copy and paste large blocks of text. We just submitted it to the App Store for review, so expect it in tomorrow's build.

We release a new build almost every day, so check back in a few days for that CarPlay update. It should be live by Monday, the latest.

I’ve tried many different podcast players and they were clunky. This is the first and only one that refreshes the pods so I’m always getting the newest ones, and it makes it way more efficient of an experience when looking for my podcast and switching to different shows. Prob better for me when I’m driving since I’m not distracted trying to find my podcast on Spotify.
