## What is Parchment?

Parchment is a private daily journal that brings your writing, plans, calendar, and reminders together in one quiet place. It uses Apple's Reminders and the system calendar to bring your task and events together.

Open today and start writing immediately. Your calendar events and due or overdue reminders can appear above your journal entry, giving you the context of the day without switching apps. Capture notes, reflect on what happened, plan what comes next, or use Parchment as a simple daybook for work and life.

On iPad, Parchment also supports handwriting and drawing with Apple Pencil, so typed notes and handwritten thoughts can live together on the same day.

Parchment is built for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with iCloud sync available through your private iCloud account. There is no Parchment account to create, no advertising, and no third-party analytics SDKs.

Features include:

- Daily journal entries organized by date
- Calendar events shown alongside your writing
- Due and overdue reminders in your daily view
- Reminder completion from inside the app
- Apple Pencil handwriting and drawing on iPad

- Widgets for a quick look at your agenda
- Shortcuts, Siri, and App Intents support
- Spotlight indexing for finding past entries
- Export tools for keeping a copy of your writing

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-08-26*

Very simple but shows and do everything that we need on a daily basis. Really worth it.

### 4/5 — Simple and attractive

*2026-08-22, version 1.1.1*

Parchment may not have all the features of some notes apps, but its simplicity is part of the attraction. I like the look and feel and take pleasure in using it.

### 4/5 — Pretty much perfect

*2026-08-21*

This app is great. It does what I’ve always wanted -- allows me to keep using the systems I’m used to and rely on with the benefit of having a single place where all those details are consolidated. The only thing that would bump this from 4 to 5 stars for me would be the ability to adjust the view on the homepage to make the timed events appear on the left and all day events on the right. It’s very small, but that’s just how my brain wants the formatting to work. Maybe there’s already a way to do this, but I haven’t figured it out. Will happily update this to 5 stars if that perk comes available.

### 5/5 — Great simple app

*2026-08-19, version 1.1.1*

User friendly. I do have one issue. Synching to v3 is not working.

### 5/5 — Simple and effective and no subscription!

*2026-08-18, version 1.1.1*

I saw the developer show this app on YouTube so I tried it and it is really good. I love being able to see my day and notes all together. I believe it will make me more productive. Can’t wait to see what other improvements he makes.

### 5/5 — Very Useful App - Responsive Developer

*2026-08-16, version 1.1.1*

This app is excellent and provides an e-journal that links calendar and reminders in a really useful way. The new version has some great actions for shortcuts. The developer is very responsive to problems and addressed mine right away.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-08-15*

Really enjoying Parchment by Christopher Lawley. You can tell it’s been developed by a user. It’s practical, it does what it sets out to achieve in a direct and unfussy way. The bells and whistles are great - because there aren’t any. It just give you what you need to get on with things in a single uncluttered place - excellent.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-08-15*

It’s pretty much useless. You still need Reminders and Calendar.
It don’t even reminds you, Reminders does.
It’s just a third app besides Reminders and Calendar that does absolutely nothing.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app & compliment to Reminders/Calendar

*2026-08-13*

This app seemed like it was made for me. I live in Apple Calendar and Reminders and always wanted a way to have both show that wasn’t overwhelming. Showing reminders in the calendar app was nice but since it wasn’t ordered and it pushed timed and even all day events to the bottom, if I had a ton of reminders, it was too cluttered to read. The layout of All Day/no time alongside Timed is great. The widgets work nicely on phone & mac.

I’m not using the Daily Note too often but it is a nice thing to have and as the developer noted in a video for the app, it’s great to update tomorrow’s Daily Note so you see it first thing the next morning.

One bug I noticed was the medium widget on the iphone doesn’t say “x more” if not all the items can be displayed. It works fine on the small and large size widgets on iphone. Note, it also works on the medium sized Mac widget. So just an iphone problem.

A feature I’d like would be maybe to be able to have all day Calendar events show up in the Timed section? I know it doesn’t make sense, but I have birthdays and a ton of reminders, and the birthday got buried on my phone and it wasn’t until I pulled up app on mac that I noticed it. Not a deal breaker but maybe some way to tweak that?

### 3/5 — The screen moves when trying to do handwritten notes.

*2026-08-13, version 1.1*

This is my second review.

When doing handwritten notes (which is all that I do), the screen moves when I’m writing, making it difficult to input with the Apple Pencil.

Sometimes things I’ve written shows up at the bottom of the screen, and not at the entry point of the tip of the pencil.

It seems like a sensitivity issue with my palm touching the screen - I’m not sure.

I use this app daily. However, the above mentioned is becoming a problem.
