Nachdem mein Sohn irgendwie rausbekommen hat, die Bildschirmzeit über Apple permanent zu umgehen, musste eine neue Lösung her.
Durch Zufall bin ich auf diese App gestoßen und recht schnell begeistert gewesen. Gute Benutzeroberfläche, gute Einstellungsmöglichkeiten. 
Nicht jugendfreie Inhalte werden direkt blockiert. 

Verbesserung im Bezug auf die Möglichkeit für einzelne Apps zusätzliche Zeit zu genehmigen. Sprich ist das Limit für eine App um, wäre es super wenn es eine Möglichkeit gibt auch nur für diese App zusätzliche Zeit frei zu schalten, ohne dass ich dann erst die komplette Einstellung für diese App ändern muss.

Ich habe Ohana nun ein halbes Jahr lang genutzt, um das Medienverhalten meines Kindes am Smartphone zu regulieren. Grundsätzlich gefällt mir die Idee sehr gut, und ich finde es toll, dass man gezielt einzelne Apps sperren kann. Diese verschwinden dann tatsächlich vom Kindergerät und sind wirklich nicht mehr zugänglich – da gibt es keine Tricks oder Schlupflöcher. Das ist ein starkes Plus und funktioniert zuverlässig.

Leider hört es da für mich mit den positiven Erfahrungen auch schon auf. Die App ist insgesamt sehr umständlich zu bedienen, beißt sich mit den Apple-Einstellungen und hat uns mehr Frust als Entlastung gebracht. Zweimal hat sich die App auf dem Kinderhandy einfach von alleine deaktiviert, ohne dass ich sofort benachrichtigt wurde – erst viel später bekam ich eine Info auf meinem Gerät. In der Zwischenzeit war plötzlich alles freigeschaltet, und mein Kind hing bis tief in die Nacht am Handy. Das war wirklich ärgerlich.

Zusätzlich gab es immer wieder Fehler bei der Zeiteinstellung: Wenn ich zum Beispiel 30 Minuten zusätzliche Zeit vergeben habe, war diese manchmal schon nach 15 Minuten wieder abgelaufen. Solche Bugs machen die App für den Alltag unbrauchbar. Apps aktualisieren sich nicht von selbst… ahh, es ist alles irgendwie umständlich und ich hab es wirklich probiert und gewollt!

Fazit: Die Idee ist großartig, aber die Umsetzung voller kleiner Fehler und Unzuverlässigkeiten. Für uns hat Ohana leider überhaupt nicht funktioniert. Ich kann die App nicht weiterempfehlen.

I’m only saying this because my mom got me this app and like she puts it on 12 or below for me but there should be an option to like download games that’s are like 17+ but have to ask parents permission because some apps are 17+ for no reason like block blast there’s nothing inappropriate about that

Application catastrophique. Je l’ai installée pour protéger l’usage de la tablette de mon enfant, et ça m’a fait perdre toutes les données, bloqué des applis comme YouTube Kids alors que je ne l’ai jamais demandé, et même après l’avoir autorisée, elle restait bloquée.
J’ai dû réinitialiser l’appareil, me casser la tête pendant des heures et au final résilier l’abonnement. Une appli qui est censée aider les parents ne doit pas créer autant de stress ni d’erreurs.
Grosse déception. Je ne recommande pas du tout.

I am 15 and my mom used this app for me instead of the built in screen time. It was personally embarrassing for any of my peers to see that not only did I have screen time as a high schooler but I had an app called Ohana. The app made it so my mom could see everything on my phone, and would look at everything on it which made me feel like I had no privacy in anything. Because not only could she track me but she could control and see everything on it. She would constantly question me on websites I was on which led to many misunderstandings and fights that could have been avoided. This also made me feel like I had no control over anything which crushed my self esteem, and would make me feel constantly angry with her and her need to control my life. It’s stupid to center your life around a phone, but to my generation we need a little freedom and a phone is a big step of freedom and having that taken away feels terrible.
So not only did this app lead to many fights that could have been avoided it made me have a sense of no freedom and caused me to get made fun of by my friends. If you get this app please don’t use it as my parents have.

I was so excited to find this app. It looked very promising. Within a week of purchasing, my kids had figured out how to activate the built-in iPhone VPN found in settings and could override the parental controls set up through this app. 

Also, if your child has data on their device, the bedtime schedule will not work. The phone will just switch over and automatically use data once the bedtime schedule shuts down the wifi. 

Promising ideas but just not quite tween-proof.

Ohana helps put limits on usage by my teen. The only drawback is that it says he’s reached his 3 hour limit when he hasn’t even been on the cellphone but 20-30 minutes. Not sure how they are calculating phone time but it’s inaccurate.

I personally hate this app. I believe that if you trust your child enough to even have a phone or any kind of device in the first place, then you should also trust that your child is capable of staying out of trouble and making reasonable decisions. Giving someone a device and then constantly monitoring and restricting everything they do on it completely defeats the purpose. If there is truly that little trust, then honestly the better solution would be to not give the kid a device at all rather than handing them one and then turning it into a heavily controlled system.  What makes it worse is that this app doesn’t just “set boundaries.” It interferes with basic functionality and creates unnecessary problems that never needed to exist. I’ve had it block the browser entirely, randomly restrict things I actually need to use, and impose screen-time limits on devices where that restriction makes absolutely no sense. Instead of helping, it turns simple tasks into frustrating obstacles. Things that should take seconds suddenly require jumping through hoops just to work around restrictions that feel pointless and arbitrary.  Another thing that makes this app even more pointless is that every single function it performs can already be done using the built-in Screen Time controls on the device. The phone literally comes with its own system for managing usage, setting limits, and controlling content if that’s something a parent wants to do. Installing a completely separate app just to duplicate those same features feels unnecessary and excessive. It’s like adding another layer of control that doesn’t actually provide anything new—just more complications and more things that can break.  On top of that, it’s honestly embarrassing. Saying your device has the normal built-in controls that come with the phone is one thing—that’s just a standard feature. But having a whole separate monitoring app installed makes it feel way more extreme and invasive than it needs to be. It turns something that could be handled quietly through the device’s own settings into something much more obvious and uncomfortable.  Even beyond the technical issues, the whole concept feels incredibly intrusive. It sends the message that the default assumption is that the child can’t be trusted, which is honestly pretty insulting. Trust is something that’s supposed to be built, not replaced with constant monitoring and automatic limits. An app like this doesn’t encourage responsibility—it just creates resentment and frustration because it constantly reminds you that someone else is controlling what you can and can’t do on your own device.  At the end of the day, the problems this app creates far outweigh whatever benefits it claims to have. Instead of promoting healthy device use, it complicates everything and makes normal use of a phone unnecessarily difficult. So yeah, I genuinely despise this app. It doesn’t solve problems—it creates them, and most of those problems wouldn’t even exist if the app itself didn’t exist in the first place.

This app is horrible. I used it for my son and he became so upset about how this app gives your children no privacy and makes their life more difficult, I understand that you want to make it so your children aren’t addicted to their devices but this doesn’t work. Ohana was put on my phone and I find it pretty annoying. It’s really bad at measuring how much time I’ve used. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the morning and all my screen time for the day will be gone, even though I haven’t even touched my phone yet. My mom is constantly having to give me more screen time because it keeps running out. If you’re a parent and you wanna control your screen time, don’t use this app. Just use the one in settings.

Nach langer Suche und Vergleich von Eltern/kind Apps. Nutzen wir Ohana und ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass Ohana im Vergleich zu den anderen Apps einfach funktioniert. Klar gibt es auch hier das ein oder andere was man sich wünschen würde. Aber alles in allem sind die Möglichkeiten der App ausreichend um mein Kind zu schützen. So richtig vermissen würde ich eine Überwachung der Nachrichten zur Vermeidung von Mobbing. Ansonsten kann ich Ohana nur loben. Wir nutzen sie jetzt schon länger und auch wenn man trotzdem ab und zu mal bei anderen Apps reinschaut, fällt die Wahl immer wieder auf Ohana.

Ich verwende die App seit April 2025 im Abo und bin begeistert: endlich gibt es fast keine Diskussionen mehr mit meinem Sohn. Etliche Lücken der „Bildschirmzeit“ werden geschlossen. Der Kundenservice ist bei Fragen sehr schnell und reagiert dankbar auf Vorschläge. Datenschutzkonformität ist ein riesiges Plus! Die wichtigsten Pluspunkte gegenüber „Bildschirmzeit“: mehrere Auszeiten am Tag einstellbar (zb Schlafen, Erledigungen) ; mehrere Modi (Aus, Lernen, Freizeit), gute Übersicht und Zuverlässigkeit („Bildschirmzeit“ dagegen war in den letzten 1 1/2 Jahren mehrere Monate außer Betrieb)! Weiter so!

Haben lange nach einer idealen Lösung für die Smartphone-Nutzung unseres Sohnes gesucht. Wollten eine App, mit der man viele individuelle Einstellungen machen kann und die vor allem zuverlässig funktioniert (was leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist). Sind so auf Ohana gestoßen und vollends zufrieden. Die App bietet alles, was wir brauchen, funktioniert perfekt und ist einfach zu bedienen. Wenn man doch mal ein Thema hat, gibt es einen superfreundlichen persönlichen Support, der innerhalb kürzester Zeit eine Lösung für das Problem findet. Absolut 100%-ige Empfehlung!

Ich dachte die Familienfreigabe wäre die Lösung. Leider verbrachte das Kind trotz Limit mehr Zeit am Handy als eingestellt. Mit Ohana funktioniert das nun. Ich bin sehr zufrieden!

Seit ich mit der App die Zeiten am Handy meines Sohnes kontrollieren kann, achtet er von sich aus darauf wie lange er das Handy nutzt und wofür. 
Es macht es für uns beide leichter, da ich nicht ständig meckern miss mit ihm. Wenn die Zeit abgelaufen ist dann ist sie vorbei. 
Schön finde ich das bestimmte Apps gespert sind und er so keinen Unfug anstellen kann.

Nach langer Suche haben wir mit Ohana eine spitzenmäßig App entdeckt, die es uns ermöglicht, zuverlässig den Medienkonsum des Kindes im Blick zu haben und ggf. zu beschränken und es auch (im Rahmen des Möglichen) zu schützen. Gut zu bedienen! Die Einstellungen lassen viele flexible Varianten zu.  Wir sind super zufrieden! Selbst der Teenager kann damit recht gut leben ;-) Ein zusätzlicher Pluspunkt ist der freundliche, hilfreiche und zeitnahe Support, wenn doch mal etwas nicht klar ist!  Von uns eine ganz klare Empfehlung und ein dickes Dankeschön für diese hilfreiche App gegen Dauerstress!

He probado varias app de control parental y esta es la definitiva. Para empezar funciona, que no es poco porque muchas ni siquiera funcionan correctamente, no es muy intrusiva comparada con otras que son más bien apps para espiar. El precio es correcto, las hay más baratas o incluso gratuitas pero no funcionaban bien, daban errores etc. También las hay mas caras, una incluso con unos precios desorbitados, no se si funciona mejor o tiene mas funciones pero no compensa pagar tanto.

Nachdem ich nur Probleme mit der Bildschirmzeit von Apple hatte und Apps wie YouTube oder Brawl Stars nicht gesperrt werden konnten, habe ich mit Ohana endlich das gefunden, was wir gesucht haben. Es funktioniert!
Man kann Apps sperren oder zulassen zu gewissen Zeiten, Zeitpläne erstellen und vieles mehr. 
Die 50 Euro pro Jahr sind es wert!

Alles in allem eine ausgezeichnete App. Sehr übersichtlich und einfach gestaltet, ohne überzogene Konfigurations-,  Auswertungsmöglichkeiten und Statistiken. Absolut Nutzerfreundlich und mehr braucht es kaum. Dazu noch hilfreiche Tipps und Tricks sowie weitere nützliche Informationen.

Aus eigener Erfahrung, kann ich den Kundenservice ebenso positiv bewerten. Insgesamt durchweg 5 Sterne - weiter so.
