Even the Parka machines at Geysir were super glichy! They take a couple times to start working, then when you are ready to pay it just sits there, thinking about it. The app is even worse. I can’t tell you many times I had to restart the app to try to get it to work. We spent 5 days and it doesn’t function, suspect their backend servers are nonexistent. We skipped visiting a number of places in and around Reykjavik as well as the southern peninsula because we were not able to pay using this app. Hopefully the Icelandic government can get it sorted as it seems to be the only way to avoid parking fines. Do Not Download. ### 1/5 — Fee/Subscription Model is Terrible *2026-07-03* 89ISK per trasanaction or to get you in a subscription so you hopefully forget about it is a terrible system. It also owns none of the parking areas it manages of course. Garbage. ### 1/5 — Travelers Beware *2026-07-01* Beware of the monthly fee. It’s a prorated fee, it does not pay for a month of usage but rather the remainder of the month. This is both beneficial and malicious in that if you pay on the 29th you’ll be charged again on the 31st. Company refuses to issue refunds. ### 1/5 — Unscrupulous and unnecessary *2026-06-03* Almost every tourist site parking lot has a pay kiosk, making the single-time fees much cheaper than signing up for a monthly subscription. Worse, the vendor is unscrupulous. I canceled my subscription at 1:00 AM on the first day of the month after my trip, and customer service refused a refund, insisting on charging me for the entire month. Save your money and just use the kiosks and pay single time fees if you need to use this app. ### 1/5 — Tried unsuccessfully to pay parking with this app *2026-05-25* I tried unsuccessfully to pay parking with this app, after selecting English as a language, entering license plate and email address. When prompted to enter the credit card’s information, all boxes were labeled only in Icelandic. ApplePay wasn’t enabled either. Ended up paying through the Parka website through Apple Pay. ### 1/5 — Scam. Avoid at all costs *2026-05-17* Very difficult to use. I selected a parking lot and a time, didn’t press pay or confirm on anything, and it still charged me over 2000 ISK from the card I had saved. And no Apple or Android pay. It’s actually easy to use. This app lets you check-in when it’s free then auto starts billing when parking fees start. Also, the map has all zones color coded. This lets you see if another zone is around the corner. Today it’s Payback Time & hoards of tourists are descending on Iceland to see what they did with the loot. Relieved that they can now access foreigners wealth without the necessity of a long cold & dangerous sea voyage the Icelanders have developed this App. The most valuable real estate in Iceland now comprises gravel covered car parks. This App efficiently continues the Nordic tradition of raping foreigners, but this time of their cash & not their virtue. Avoid at all cost *2025-12-17* I used Parka during my September 2025 trip for a rental car (plate LVG81). Weeks after I left Iceland, my card was charged 6,726 ISK for parking at Traðarkot from 13–15 November when another renter had the car and I was back in Canada.
