## What is ParkGratis?

Ända fram — all the way there. Navigation takes you to the address; ParkGratis takes you to the space.

ParkGratis helps you find free parking, customer parking, and low-cost spots near any address, mall, or supermarket in Sweden.

The parking data for all of Sweden is bundled in the app — searches and spot details work right on your device, with no waiting on a server. The map itself loads over the network.

WHAT YOU GET
• Colour-coded P-signs on the map: green = free, teal = store/customer parking, blue = paid, grey = unknown. Always check the sign on site.
• Satellite view with high-resolution aerial imagery over 60 municipalities, so you can see the entrance, the barrier, and where the bays actually are before you set off.
• Price and brand pills right on the map where the data exists (for example "25 kr/h" or the store's name).
• Plan ahead: pick a start time and a minimum parking duration to filter out spots that close too soon — and get a rough cost estimate for your stay.
• Can I park here? One answer for the centre of the map, weighing street rules, fee hours and prohibitions together — and it says "unknown" rather than guessing.
• My car: save where you parked and find your way back.
• Reminders: get a local notification before your time runs out.
• Favourites plus Home/Work for quick access.
• Pay shortcuts to common parking apps for paid spots.
• Read the sign with the camera: point at the sign pole and it is interpreted on the phone — the picture is never uploaded. You get what the sign says in plain words with the clock, the weekday and the public holidays folded in, and whatever could not be read is shown as exactly that. An interpretation aid — the sign on the spot is what counts.
• Offers at the till: where a sponsored place carries an offer, an "Använd erbjudande" (use offer) button appears. Tap it once you are there and you get a single-use code as a QR code to show the staff, who scan it. The code is valid for 15 minutes. Not every area has such places.

BUILT FOR PRIVACY
No account and no sign-up. No analytics and no tracking. Your settings, searches, and saved places stay on your device.

The app may show the occasional sponsored place near where you are — or near a destination you chose. These are always labelled "Sponsrad", they never affect which car parks are listed, their order, their price, or whether they count as free — and you can switch them off in Settings. If you tap "Använd erbjudande", the app sends a random device id that is not linked to you, plus your position, which is only compared with the business's location to check that you are nearby and is not stored.

ABOUT THE DATA
Street parking rules come from the municipalities' own traffic regulations as published in Svensk trafikföreskriftssamling; parking places and facilities come from OpenStreetMap. Either source may be incomplete or out of date, and a regulation can change before the app's offline dataset does, so spots show as "unknown" or "likely free" rather than a firm answer wherever the source does not settle it. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL, rendered by ParkGratis; fallback tiles © CARTO. Aerial imagery: Ortofoto Nedladdning © Lantmäteriet, CC BY 4.0, processed by ParkGratis. The app is not affiliated with any parking operator, retailer, or municipality. Always check the signage on site.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.19 — 2026-09-30

THE LAW'S RULES NEAR CROSSINGS AND LEVEL CROSSINGS
Within 10 metres before a pedestrian crossing, a cycle crossing or a cycle passage, and within 30 metres of a level crossing, parking is forbidden by the Swedish traffic ordinance, even where there is no sign. The app now answers "Not allowed here" at those places and names the rule. The places come from Trafikverket's national road database.

BETTER ANSWERS TO "CAN I PARK HERE?"
Rules that were placed in the wrong municipality have been removed. Places only permit holders may use now read "Permit holders only". The card and the line on the map now point to the same side of the street, and a rule for one side only has that side marked on the map.

Ända fram — all the way there.

### 1.2.18 — 2026-09-25

THE MAP SHOWS WHICH SIDE OF THE STREET A RULE APPLIES TO
A rule that applies to one side of the street is now drawn along that side's kerb, and a rule for both sides as a wider band across the street. Tap the line and it says which side it applies to, for example "Applies to the west side of the street".

DIFFERENT RULES ON EACH SIDE OF THE STREET — WHICH SIDE ARE YOU PARKING ON?
Where the rules on the two sides of a street disagree, the app no longer guesses. The card asks which side you are parking on and shows what applies on each. Pick a side for its full answer; "Change side" asks again. Your pick is kept for as long as you stay at the spot.

THE RIGHT SIDE FOR AROUND 800 RULES
For around 800 rules the side of the street had been read the wrong way round, so the rule could be shown on the wrong side. The side has been corrected.

THE SCANNER
"Gäller ej jämna veckor" (not in even weeks) now reads correctly: the ban applies in the odd weeks, and every week outside the period on the plate. Before, the ban was placed on the even weeks — the opposite of the sign.
"0–6 m" under a sign is a distance, not a time. The card used to say "Fee now" at a disabled parking bay and "Free now" at an emergency vehicle bay.
A lorry on a plate reads as a lorry, not a motorcycle.
On iPhone, a scan straight after a large photo from the photo library could read worse than usual. That is fixed.
In English, vehicles are now named in English.

Ända fram — all the way there.

### 1.2.17 — 2026-09-24

THE VIEWFINDER NO LONGER ZOOMS FURTHER THAN THE CAMERA CAN SEE
Standing some way from the pole, the viewfinder could zoom to 5×, show a blurry, pixelated pole and ask you to move closer — and then not change its mind when you did. Above 2× the iPhone camera only enlarges the picture; it does not see more. The auto-zoom now stops while the picture is still sharp, and "Move closer" clears as you arrive. Tap the zoom button yourself to go further in.

THE WHOLE POLE IS READ, NOT JUST THE P
The plates under a P sign — the hours, "Fredag", the fee — sometimes sat outside the box the app measured and cropped to. The viewfinder then said "move closer" with the pole filling the picture, and the reader never saw the plates. The box now covers the whole pole: the sign and the plates stacked under it.

AN O WHERE A ZERO SHOULD BE
"O–20 m" on a plate — the letter O painted where the digit 0 belongs — now reads as 0–20 metres instead of being turned away as something the app does not recognise.

ALSO NEW SINCE 1.2.15

THE WEEK UNDER THE SIGN SHOWS ALL SEVEN DAYS
The list under the week strip quietly dropped the day you were standing there reading the sign on: scan on a Sunday and there was no Sunday in the list, and nothing said a day was missing. At the same time Monday–Friday was split in two, so the fee line was printed twice. All seven days are there now, in calendar order from Monday, with identical days merged into one run — and the card says the same thing whichever day you read it on.

MINIMUM STAY NOW REACHES THE ANSWER
If the minimum stay you asked for is longer than the spot allows, the card says so under the answer: "But at most 30 min here — you asked for 1 h". Before, the list dimmed the spot while the card answered "Yes", with nothing said about why the two disagreed. The answer itself does not change: a short maximum stay is a limit, not a ban — you may park here, just not for as long as you planned.

279 MUNICIPALITIES, NOT 290
The app said "290 municipalities decoded". Eleven of them carry no rule at all, so the number counted municipalities the app knew the name of, not municipalities it can answer about. It now counts the ones that actually have rules: 279 — the same number parkgratis.se has shown all along.

Ända fram — all the way there.

### 1.2.15 — 2026-09-20

THE FEE ON THE PLATE NO LONGER FALLS OFF THE CARD
A plate that says two things — "2 tim / Avgift / 7-19 / Taxa 5" — was read correctly, but the card showed only the maximum stay and said "Free now". The fee was on the sign and not in the app. The card now says both: how long you may stay, and that it costs money.

"ALLA DAGAR" IS SEVEN DAYS
The words "Alla dagar", "dagligen" and "varje dag" were in none of the tables the app reads with, so "2 tim / Alla dagar / 9-21" came out as "weekdays 9–21" — and Saturday and Sunday looked free when they were not. All seven days are read now, and seven identical days are written back as "every day".

A BAY FOR PERMIT HOLDERS IS NOT A FREE BAY
"Övrig tid / P-tillstånd", with no verb after it, fell through the app's lexicon and the card printed a time and nothing else. It now says the bay is reserved. Two words do not stop reserving a place because the third was never painted on.

THE SIGN'S OWN FACE CARRIES CONDITIONS TOO
A P-sign that carries the condition on the sign itself — "Rörelsehindrad" (disabled permit), "Laddplats" (charging bay), "Förhyrd plats" (rented bay), "Boende" (residents), a code or a zone — was written out as ordinary free parking: "You may park free of charge". The condition was swapped for the generic sentence, with nothing said about it. The card now states it. A disabled-permit bay does not become everyone's bay because the words were painted on the sign instead of the plate beneath it.

A DEADLINE TO PAY IS NOT PERMISSION TO STAY
"Inom 48 timmar", in an operator's small print about unpaid fees, was read as 48 hours of parking. A number beside a time word is not a permission. The same for phone numbers: "08-125 05 000" on a contact plate was read as a clock and made the afternoons free on the whole pole.

DAYS WRITTEN AS WORDS
"Vardagar", "sön- och helgdag(ar)", "helgdagar" and "dag före sön- och helgdag" are now read as the day classes they are. Before, "dag före sön- och helgdag" became a Sunday, and "sön- och helgdag" only Sunday — which made 1 May, 6 June and Ascension Day look free when they were not.

THE WEIGHT PLATE NAMES AN AUDIENCE, AND A SIDE OF THE LINE
"Högst 3,5 t" — at most 3.5 tonnes — was rendered as "over 3.5 tonnes", the exact opposite. And under a prohibition sign, a symbol plate names who is forbidden: a plate pointing at lorries does not forbid a car, and the headline now says so.

"COULD NOT BE READ" BEATS A GUESS
The phone's own text recognition sometimes drops a digit or runs two rows together. A clock missing its start ("-6"), a window that would run seventeen hours across midnight, a season row that looks like a season but cannot be read — all of it used to be guessed at. The card now says a plate could not be read, and the photo of that plate stays on the card so you can read it yourself.

The sign on the street is the one that counts. Follow it.

### 1.2.14 — 2026-09-18

SPONSORED NAMES READ ON BOTH LIGHT AND DARK MAPS
A sponsored place's name took its colour from the app's theme instead of from the map beneath it. With a light theme and a dark map, or the other way round, it was close to unreadable. The map decides now, so the name reads in every combination.

SPONSORED PLACES GET A PROPER PIN
A sponsored place used to be a long, narrow pill that was hard to hit. It is now a navy pin with its tip on the place, as easy to tap as a parking marker. The name sits beside it and the offer on the line below, with the word "Sponsrad" first on that line — what is advertising must always be visible. Pins that would cover each other move their text or hide it, and a car park is never covered by a sponsor.

THE CARD IS REBUILT
Logo and name on one line, the walking time below, and the offer is the button itself: one tap gives you the single-use code to show at the till. Directions and Close stand apart, so your finger cannot land on the wrong thing. The cross in the corner is gone — the card closes like everything else in the app, with a button.

A PHONE ON ITS SIDE IS STILL A PHONE
Turned sideways, the app mistook some phones for a desktop: a wide panel took almost half the screen, the search field landed on top of it, and the list inside that panel stayed on "Finding parking…" while the spots were already on the map. A phone on its side now keeps the phone layout — the whole map, and the list where it belongs. And the list is readable: the header takes one row instead of two, you get whole cards instead of a sliced band, and a tap on the count opens the list all the way.

Sponsored places exist in a few localities only and can be switched off in Settings. Where there are none, the map is exactly as before.

The sign on the street is the one that counts. Follow it.
