## What is Parks & Peaks?

The ParksnPeaks app allows (Australian & NZ) amateur radio operators to alert, spot, log and chase portable radio activity.

There are two main types of activities, Summits on the Air (SOTA) and World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF). SOTA is an award scheme for radio amateurs and shortwave listeners that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas.

WWFF is an international program where Amateur radio operators are encouraged to operate portable from designated nature parks and protected nature areas.

The Parks & Peaks app brings a convenient interface for these activities to the iOS user, both activator and chasers alike. Users are presented data formatted for a small screen from the Parks & Peaks website (http://www.parksnpeaks.org) and are able to view and create spots as well as alerts and it also contains tools such as Find Sites to support the activities.

This version allows entry of QSO logs which can be exported and emailed to the appropriate award websites or managers straight from your device. Logs can be exported as ADIF or CSV.

Mapping of parks and/or summits is now included and you can plan your trip by viewing other sites around the one you plan on activating.

## Key features

- Log and chase portable radio activity
- Support for SOTA and WWFF award schemes
- View and create spots and alerts
- Mapping of parks and summits
- Export QSO logs (ADIF/CSV)
- Find Sites tool

### 1/5 — Fails to login and no error message

*2021-07-07*

1. (Not strictly the app developers fault) the parksnpeaks website does not protect registration or login with https, thus seriously jeopardising security.
2. The app requires parksnpeaks api key. When this is entered login fails but no feedback to indicate why.
Total fail. Deleted in disgust.

**Developer response:** Sorry you feel that way Gareth. If you had contacted me, I would have been happy to help.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2021-04-03, version 2.3.0*

Perfect companion for activation or chasing SOTA or WWFF.
Alerts from phone ensures you know who's out and the logging a must when activating. If you use iOS and chase SOTA or WWFF then this is the app to have.

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2021-02-11, version 2.3.0*

Find a park or peak. Alert. Spot. Re-spot. Log. Upload Logs. Notifications of other activators spots or alerts.
Does exactly what it says on the box without fuss and with a simple and elegant user interface.
Sue the developer is a wiz with her heart in this app. Any reported bugs are immediately seen too. The App has improved and added functionality over time.
Best field App for Parks and Peaks, period!
Thanks for your hard work on it Sue.

### 5/5 — Thanks for a great app

*2020-09-27, version 2.1.1*

This app is great for recording logs and posting spots. I prefer this app to the other platform VK equivalent.

Logs are easy to export and parks/summits are easy to find via search.

### 5/5 — Paperless SOTA logging for iOS

*2019-10-05, version 2.0*

Sue has put in amazing work over the last year expanding PnP to be the fully featured iOS app for SOTA and Parks activations. I can finally go paperless AND get my ADIF logs exported properly at last :)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2018-01-20, version 1.0*

Very handy app on a summit or in a park. Helps to alert and spot. Index of nearby parks and peaks is handy if you didn’t note the reference numbers before setting off.

### 5/5 — Parks & Peaks now on iPhone

*2017-05-20, version 1.0*

Thanks for the effort to create this app. Looking forward to going portable with this and getting on air.

### 2.3.0 — 2020-12-18

1. You will now be able to SMS spots to parksnpeaks.org when there is no internet and minimal cellular activity (1 digit should work).
2. I've fixed the format of the calendar in the date/time pickers.  If you are running iOS 14, the pickers will appear as a calendar, if you are running anything less, it will appear as wheels as per previous versions.
3. You can choose to view near sites and sites surrounding a selected site from the database or from parksnpeaks.org.  This means when you have no coverage, you can still view near sites.
4. You can turn on/off push notifications sounds for SOTA & WWFF from parksnpeaks.org under the Spots/Options page.  Check if the sounds are turned off on this page, you may need to opt in if you want to receive sounds, otherwise it will use the default sound on your iPhone/iPad.
5. QSOLog reports are now displayed on the View Logs screen and you can email them.
6. I've fixed a bug on the map. Pinching or widening the map view would re-centre the map on the user location particularly if a large number of sites were being displayed.
7. I've changed the order on the View Logs screen, so the most recent will appear at the top.
8. Various bug fixes.

2. The map also works on the sites from your device.

3. In iOS 14 the calendar and date/time calendar have changed, modified code to handle these changes.

4. Fixed anomaly with exporting WWFF logs where 2 days at the same location were grouped into the first date’s log.

5. Fixed problem with Log list not reloading when returning from other screens.

### 2.1.1 — 2020-07-02

Ready for iOS 13.
Fixed some minor issues.
Users can now swipe international activators from the Spots screen and save them to log.
iPhone or iPad can now be turned sideways.
