## What is Parley?

Parley turns your voice into text on your iPhone two ways — and both run on the same transcription that powers Parley, your copilot for the high-stakes conversations of sales, negotiation, and interviews.

TYPE BY VOICE, ANYWHERE

Switch to the Parley keyboard in any app — Messages, Mail, Notes, anything with a text field — tap the mic, and your words type themselves in at the cursor. Put it on the Action Button and dictation starts without even switching keyboards. Stop and pick it up again without being bounced out of the app you are in.

AI polish takes out the filler and the slips of the tongue while keeping every sentence you said. Fix a word once and Parley remembers how you say it. The keyboard also types: English and Zhuyin panes sit next to the mic, and your saved name, phone numbers and addresses are one tap away.

RECORD THE MEETINGS YOU HAVE IN PERSON

Put the phone on the table and a live, speaker-separated transcript arrives while people are still talking — the coffee shop, the customer's office, the table where nobody opens a laptop. What you keep is a record you can read, search, and quote from, not a wall of undifferentiated text.

ALSO IN THE APP

• A library of your recordings to browse, search, and file into folders you create, rename, and delete right on the phone
• Import an audio file you already have and get it transcribed like a recording
• The recording and the open microphone show on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island
• Personal and organization spaces, with sharing and moving between them
• Finished recordings survive a dead network: they queue on the phone and sync themselves once you are back
• English and Traditional Chinese throughout, following your iPhone's language
• System, light, and dark appearance

BRING YOUR OWN STACK

Parley is open source, and the point is that the meeting layer stays yours. On the desktop you pick the transcription vendor and the model provider that fit your cost, privacy, language, and latency requirements — Parley is the interface, not another closed AI bundle. On iPhone, signing in gets you hosted transcription with no API key to manage and a free tier that covers everyday use.

ONE ACCOUNT, TWO DEVICES

Recordings and transcripts sync to your Parley account, so a meeting you caught on the phone opens on the Mac app — where the deeper work happens: the report with clickable timestamps, what each side committed to, action items, a scorecard on how you delivered, and full-text search across every meeting you have ever recorded. The phone is the capture end; the desktop is where the reading happens.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

Parley for iPhone is honest about the platform. iOS gives no third-party app access to system audio, so this app does not record phone calls, FaceTime, or sound from other apps, and it never pretends otherwise. Online meetings belong on the Mac app, which can capture system audio properly. The phone owns the room you are sitting in.

YOUR DATA

Parley uses the microphone only while you record or dictate, and iOS shows its orange microphone indicator the whole time. If you turn on keeping the microphone ready after dictation, the indicator stays on for that window, but nothing is recorded or sent until you tap the mic. You can delete your account and personal data permanently from Settings → Account → Delete Account. The privacy policy has the full detail.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.36 — 2026-10-29

The Record screen is quieter: nothing sits above the live transcript but the copy button.

### 1.35 — 2026-10-28

Manage folders on your phone. Long-press a folder in the Library to rename or delete it, or tap + at the end of the folder row to make a new one. Deleting a folder moves its recordings to Unfiled; no recording is ever deleted.

### 1.32 — 2026-10-24

Long meetings now finish filling in their transcripts. After a meeting, Parley fills in whatever the live transcript missed in the background. Before, leaving the app stopped that work, and the next try uploaded the whole recording again, so a long meeting could stay unfinished. Now it carries on after you leave, and picks up where it stopped when you come back.

Dictation you finish away from the keyboard now lands in your text. If you tap the mic, stop recording in Parley, from the Live Activity or from the lock screen, and then go back to the app you were typing in, the Parley keyboard types the words into the field when it reappears — no more copying them by hand.

### 1.30 — 2026-10-05

The Parley keyboard now saves you a lot of trips out to other apps.

Your saved info is one tap away. The card button on the right of the keys keeps your name, phone numbers, addresses, email and ID number, and email, phone and address fields suggest the matching one right above the keys. Your ID number shows only its first and last two characters. All of this stays on your phone.

Bopomofo remembers what you pick: choose the same word twice after the same words and it comes first next time, and touching and holding a candidate lets you say Don't suggest this. When you type several syllables at once it now weighs the whole phrase before choosing, and after you pick, the bar suggests what usually comes next. What it learns stays on your phone and can be reset in Settings.

Voice typing has a new Concise style. Besides removing filler and fixing slips, it drops verbal tics and small talk and writes the shortest sentences that keep your meaning. The previous behaviour is now called Tidy and is still the default. If a polished result is not what you wanted, tap Use original above the keys.

Misheard words are easier to teach: select text in your dictation history and choose Fix this word — one fix is enough. Your personal dictionary now helps recognition directly and syncs with Parley on your computer.

Also: touch and hold the space bar to move the cursor, and the Text Replacement shortcuts you set up in iOS Settings now work in the Parley keyboard.

Recordings the phone re-transcribed, filled in after a gap, or imported from a file keep their timing again, so highlights made from them on your computer no longer all land at 00:00; re-transcribe an affected recording once to fix it.

Also since the last release on the App Store: start recording from the lock screen. Touch and hold the lock screen, tap Customize, and put Parley's Record in place of the flashlight or camera button; the same control works from Control Center and the Action button, and you can ask Siri to "Record with Parley". And tapping Start recording now starts right away, without first asking you to confirm that everyone has agreed. As with any recorder, getting the consent of the people in the room, as the law where you are requires, is up to you.

### 1.27 — 2026-09-28

After dictating with the voice keyboard, tap the text to copy all of it. The keyboard confirms with "Copied" in its header, and for your first few dictations it reminds you that the text can be tapped.

The voice keyboard no longer quits on its own after you switch between apps or fields a few times. It was holding on to every copy of itself it had ever shown until iOS closed it.

Typing feels closer to the system keyboard. The Chinese candidate bar keeps up with fast typing, a tap in the gap between two keys types the nearer one, keys light up the moment you touch them and click if Keyboard Clicks is on, holding delete speeds up and then deletes whole words, and English sentences start with a capital letter.

Dictating again within 30 seconds of the last dictation starts right where you are, without opening Parley. A single dictation can now run for 10 minutes instead of 2, the keyboard counts down its last 30 seconds, and whatever you said before the limit is typed. If the connection drops, the words you already said are typed instead of lost.

When a transcript comes back empty or cut short, a recording keeps failing to sync, or the microphone kept dropping, Parley offers to send us the diagnostics in one tap, never your recordings or transcripts. You can also report a problem from Settings, and crash reports are sent automatically; you can turn that off in Settings.
