### 3/5 — So close to 5 stars!

*2026-09-03, version 4.3.5*

I really want to give this app five stars and if all you care about are calories and a couple of very basic macros like protein then it’s a five star app. For me, and for a ton of people, what would elevate this, and quite easily, would be to allow us to track sodium on this app. It’s so close to perfect, but this obvious and persistent flaw remains over years of requests to the developer.

### 2/5 — In app purchases not working

*2026-08-17, version 4.3.4*

Purchased yearly subscription. It is not working. Apple won’t refund my purchase.

### 3/5 — Quantity button does not work

*2026-08-04, version 4.3.3*

Great app except all of a sudden the quantity button doesn’t work properly for days now and I can’t find where to contact support to address the issue. It’s driving me nuts now and I’m ready to quit. This is after I’ve recommended the app and my family is also on it. Please help me fix this and add a customer support email to your settings.

### 4/5 — Crippled by the UI

*2026-07-15*

UPDATE: Developer restored mY account to previous UI. The app once again has all the expected features of a tracking app plus the parrot AI.

I loved this up until the latest changed to the UI. It no longer shows how many grams of food are logged; it only shows the macros. It removed my saved recipes and meals. I also can’t copy a previous entry to today. I did use the AI logging but I also relied on having access to verified information. Disappointed after 2 years of use.

**Developer response:** Hi

Please email me so I can sort this for you - scott@parrotpal.com

### 3/5 — Was great

*2026-06-11, version 4.2.9*

Loved it at first, but 6 months in and it seems to be losing its ability to read nutritional labels and barley scans anything. I have done an app update today and it’s wiped all my data, but not my information or targets.

### 3/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-06-10*

The app fails with a lost network connection message and doesn’t log anything.

### 3/5 — Nice tracker

*2026-06-02, version 4.2.9*

I’ve enjoyed this app for months and it already helped me to lose 6kg in very gentle and thoughtful way. But recently something went wrong and now 2/3 of the food I log is logged with 0 calories and I have to retry several times.

### 4/5 — Weight lose

*2026-06-01, version 4.2.8*

Hoping to get to my goal and stop Manjaro

### 3/5 — Lots to like!

*2026-04-22*

There’s a lot to like about this app. I love tracking with the voice note option and the text style features - it really makes tracking so very easy. And the photo input is surprisingly quite accurate! I’ve been using for a few months now, and have been hoping an app update would fix some of the features that are lacking. For example, editing the quantity of a food is really clunky. It would be so great if you could edit with grams rather than 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 etc. Also when editing a good, you can only edit the calories and protein - not how many grams you’ve had. If this was fixed I’d be giving 4-5 stars for sure.

### 1/5 — Wasted Time and Notification Spam

*2026-04-10, version 4.2.4*

Edit: Say you don’t want notifications? Well we’re gonna send you quiet ones anyway! What a slimy decision. Respect your users’ choices.

It’s never a good experience to go through an entire signup process and then pay gate the whole experience. Many other offerings like this have free tiers. It would have been nice to be informed this was a pay-only experience before going through an entire setup and registration process. Be warned to look up pricing and be ready to commit before opening this app.

### 4/5 — Learning curve is worth it

*2026-03-16*

My review is based off of a year of use. I also keep to super basic foods so there isn’t much to get wrong. I’m in love with rattling off what I ate and the app doing all the work. Once I learned how to alter foods and save them as faves, it’s been such a luxury. I also enjoy the recap showing water, activity (would love a search feature here) and my progress given in a percentage. The “other” app (you know who I mean) has become clogged with info and options. I like this simpler version. Also on the “other” app, the created foods are overrun with by a million users. As a result me entering chicken inundates me with 1000 versions of the same nutrition panel. I like that this app is still clean. I probably wouldn’t pay more than the $20 a year for it but it’s an incredible resource for my weight loss journey!

**Developer response:** Hi

You can enter a food with the full macros directly into the chat via voice or text to track very easily. Or take a photo of the nutrition label and it does it for you. The app may be "basic" but we focus on the fundamentals for fat loss and nothing more. This means its super easy to use, focused and works. Adding bells and whistles just for the sake of it is what nearly every other app does and it becomes a complex mess with too many goals and approaches. We follow the science and keep it fundamentally at that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not working right anymore

*2026-07-06, version 4.3.1*

It was working fine until the new update. Now everytime I try putting in a food, it gives me an error message!

### 1/5 — New Layout

*2026-06-17, version 4.3.0*

The new update is awful, took away lots of good features and being able to copy foods. Will not be renewing because of this!

### 1/5 — K

*2026-06-15*

Such a waste of time, stop making very app paid .

### 1/5 — Beware Free Trial

*2026-06-14, version 4.2.9*

Seems to try the app you're forced to sign up to a free trial. I tried several times to bypass it and eventually had to commit to the trial. If you don't cancel immediately you're charged £40 after 7 days. Very poor!

Uninstalled 5 mins later...

### 1/5 — Lacklustre UI, inaccurate by nature, unresponsive support

*2026-06-07, version 4.2.9*

Great concept for app but falls short on a number of fronts. Unintuitive UI. No dark mode (hello 2015). Unresponsive support. Better options out there, notably MacroFactor and LoseIt

### 1/5 — Jesus Christ, half an hour of questioning to then be told it’s £40 quid a year

*2026-06-03, version 4.2.9*

No thank, how about not wasting peoples time, I am not paying 40 quid a year to track calories, and no body should, just go back to my fitness pal and educate your self on food, track for free, these people trying to fleece people is ridiculous, £40 lol

### 1/5 — DO NOT GET

*2026-05-24, version 4.2.7*

Honestly please save your money, although this app puts your calories higher than MyFitness Pal the app it’s self isn’t there. It really struggles to find items. Even when you use the AI function it’s wrong most of the time

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2026-05-22, version 4.2.7*

I had to reload my app, lost all data (14 months), every food I log in shows less protein, cals etc than it actually has (?) I used to edit values before - now not possible (?). Only quantity remains editable. Then I used to saved those in “saved food” - not see it any more (?) Am missing something or things changed for worse.
Totally unusable now…

### 1/5 — Not free

*2026-05-02, version 4.2.6*

Another monthly subscription based app. Got all the way through setting up my goals etc then after putting in my email the next page was free trial then a charge after that.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2026-04-15, version 4.2.4*

They will change you with out. Any notice and theirs no way for you to cancel but to block your card from merchant!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Please remove podcast autoplay

*2026-08-06, version 4.3.3*

The podcast autoplay stops my music whenever I go to log my food. Very annoying but otherwise a great app

### 5/5 — Lose weight

*2026-06-23, version 4.3.0*

Be good to see change

### 5/5 — Review

*2026-05-29, version 4.2.8*

I’ve used parrot pal in the past and am looking forward to using it again

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2026-05-08, version 4.2.6*

I’ve used a few different calorie apps and this is by far the best one I’ve used. The interface is easy to navigate but there are how to videos if help is needed. Being able to type, talk or snap a photo to log meals is amazing and a great feature. It takes so much stress out of food logging. And seeing all the macros and steps in an easy place, also great. Add that with the exercise parts, the podcasts and the community groups, all the support you need is there in one place. It offers so much more than other apps and the price after the trial is a fraction of what others cost.

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2026-04-26*

Well what can I say, for me this has been an absolute game changer. I am 9 weeks in and can honestly say I feel so much better, my clothes are looser, I’m sleeping better my energy has improved and my mental health is so much more positive.
This app can be as little or as much as you want. You can use it to track food in so many different ways there really is no excuse to not track everything that you eat, it will track your steps, you can add your water intake and it can help you get started with resistance training, there are podcasts to help you understand the psychology around why we do what we do and get practical advice from those in the know.
The thriving online support network is there to offer advice and support when you feel like giving up, giving you that boost to pick yourself up regardless of how far you might have gone.
I have tried loosing weight before and lost and put on again more time than I like to admit, but this just works.
If you’re wondering whether to give it a go I can only say yes! Be honest, track everything and trust the process.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-04-19, version 4.2.5*

Tried a few different calorie counters but this really hits the mark. Everything is explained and whilst looking complicated at first glance it become self explanatory and with it becomes second nature to track what you’re eating, I’m amazed at the accuracy from taking a photo to everything being logged with macros just seconds later. Started with the trial and now a life member, absolutely brilliant 5*.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-04-09, version 4.2.4*

The best calorie counter app out there. Also has recipes, training programmes and an AI coach to keep you informed and motivated.
Sooo good, worth every penny.
Plus the podcast “one day at a time”with Scott, the top man himself.

### 5/5 — Best yet !

*2026-03-27, version 4.2.3*

Thank goodness. Finally an easy straightforward app to track and encourage my success. Day 6 and I’ve bought the lifetime access. Thanks Scott Flear

### 5/5 — Love how different it is

*2026-03-14, version 4.2.1*

I’ve used different calorie counting apps before and honestly get fed up of them feel like it’s a chore writing everything down I love how easy it is to voice note what I’ve had and how motivating the podcasts are not to mention how supportive the group chats are I’ve completed my 7 day free trial it flew by and am getting it so I can carry on (looking forward to it)

### 5/5 — Really impressed

*2026-03-02, version 4.1.18*

Have moved to this from another well known tracking app. This app is so much better in every way. Far more intuitive and easier to log meals - for example voice notes or texting details of what you’ve eaten. The app provides personalised targets and weekly check ins to keep you on track. Highly recommend
