The preference settings are awesome. But please increase coverage already to other regions!! After using it for several months, I’m moving onto a different one. Pros: - It’s a beautiful, well executed application and it threads the same story from contrasting sources in a helpful way - It updates fairly close to real time and does a good job at prioritizing more important stories up front Cons: - No control over news sources and constantly fed uninterested editorials - It’s not uncommon to have some seriously biased headlines or photos for suggested stories - it’s local targeting is only partially good as while I do get some local content, I get random locales across the country - No way to turn off the noisy ‘social’ features and every news story becomes a comment box and Q&A for opinions ### 3/5 — Customizing preferred topics does nothing *2026-07-18, version 1.1.46* Despite spending a considerable amount of time customizing the news categories and topics I’m interested in, and specifying what topics I’m completely uninterested in, I constantly am shown topics I’ve chosen not to see. For instance, sports or celebrity news…chose to not see any of this yet get it all the time in large quantities too. These issues remain despite closing out of the app and loading it back up. ### 3/5 — They put in ads *2026-07-13, version 1.1.46* Used to be great but now it crashes and has ads with a subscription to remove them ### 4/5 — Great before Atlantic forced sponsored propaganda placement *2026-06-27, version 1.1.46* Particle was truly great, then accepted money from The Atlantic and now forces their very non neutral propaganda into forced placement that can not be skipped. Shameful missed opportunity to be useful without any stupid American group bias. ### 2/5 — Limited Customisation *2026-06-27* A good aggregator, but you are overloaded with news on topics, geographies, domains you don’t want. Developers claim customisation but don’t take feedback at story or topic level as one uses the product. So there is precious little you can do except sit back and enjoy the overload. If this can be addressed, Particle has an opportunity to become good. For now Ground News paid will be a better option. ### 3/5 — Background Audio Play *2026-06-24, version 1.1.46* Is it just me, or this app can't play audio in the background? Did no one test with more than one news source ? ### 3/5 — it's ok *2026-06-12, version 1.1.45* it does quite a number of cool thugs, but my initial enthusiasm was checked by the fact that it will only show 11 stories a day in "my news" section. to read more, i have to "explore." what's the point of spending time setting it up how i want only for the company to only allow me a teensy bit of the stuff i actually want? it should give me at least 50 stories. not sure if i'm gonna keep it because every app on a device is another small hit to the battery and another chance for a software conflict. so dumb to limit the stuff i actually want to a paltry 11 stories. kinda removes the whole point of the app, eh? ### 4/5 — Too much focus on America *2026-06-10, version 1.1.45* I would like mostly UK national and local news, with a smattering of global news. Not everyone is obsessed with America. Otherwise, a handsome, very well designed, smart news aggregator. ### 3/5 — Decreased in Performance and Quality *2026-06-08, version 1.1.44* As much as I enjoy the app, it somewhat decreased in performance and Quality after the app introduced the subscription service. Even though, I am a subscriber user, the App lacks performance and quality updates. 1. The Recent/History Tab is cluttered with 'New Stories' instead of user activity history. 2. Searching for news, articles, headlines is slow, unreliable, and doesn't search accurately of news, even though the app supposed to have data of world events. 3. The app is heavily indexed US news sources and not as much other countries, which somewhat defeats the purpose of unbiased news reporting and coverage. 4. Lastly, not related to the news, but the daily crossword became so irritating to play for months now, as it is very buggy, random invisible letters, checking for mistakes and wrong letters doesn't get highlighted correctly. ### 5/5 — The best news app *2026-06-07, version 1.1.44* This all is great. It allows you to see both side of the argument and Taylor’s what you see by what you have interacted with before. Fuyez. ### 1/5 — The best thing eas the crossword *2026-05-16, version 1.1.41* The best thing about this AI driven app, was the crossword. And the app is so buggy it won’t open. The concept is nice: it’s a bunch of news, rate the category as more or less desirable to tune your newsfeed. Unfortunately, what actually happened was every time you rated something it spawned new, infinitely more granular categories. So if you told it you didn’t like “news about sport“, you’d suddenly find that you had new categories such as news about people wearing Green shirts playing golf on a Thursday. It’s also sure that all you want to see is stories about rural America, bitcoin, AI, and celebrity gossip. It won’t let you turn off stories about America but they are incredibly irrelevant. ### 1/5 — The worst best app *2026-05-10, version 1.1.41* What a great app made unusable by the UI. God how I wish they made a simple infinite scroll available or something like that. ### 1/5 — Irrelevant news *2026-04-27, version 1.1.41* I was really hoping it can get better but that never happened. So, if you follow the Euro the currency to get relevant news about it, a soccer player will transfer to another team for 23M Euro and you will be notified for that!!!! Another example, I follow Brent crude and I get notified for Rupee news, I am not Indian and I don’t live there and don’t follow the Rupee. But Brent crude was mentioned in the article. This is insane and massive pointless notifications. Can it be better? ### 1/5 — Cluttered and Disorganized *2026-04-24, version 1.1.41* I don’t normally write reviews for apps, but this is actually a very ugly, cluttered, and disorganized app. Headers for topics in the Main Feed don’t match the subtitles or the stories of those headers; the app separates “Topics” from “People, Places, Things” which is odd; and the presentation of stories is a mess. This app is a cluttered and disorganized chaos, when its primary function is to simply present the news. ### 1/5 — Sign in options do not exist *2026-04-09, version 1.1.39* App won’t let me choose any sign in path but my Apple ID. Let me use any email I want, or better- let me browse anonymously, prove your articles are truly unbiased. Lack of sign in options is a privacy and security concern. ### 1/5 — I’m done *2026-03-03, version 1.1.36* I rated this 5/5 when I discovered it, but now, as they’re trying to use the news platform to force investments upon you, I wouldn’t bother. Good things never last. I don’t recommend getting hooked on this. Someone else will take their place though, I’ll be on the lookout. ### 1/5 — Added premium and broke app *2025-12-31, version 1.1.31* A premium feature was added and now the app jumps around randomly. I also can no longer submit feedback to the devs. Definitely a well tested feature rollout. ### 1/5 — Used to be good *2025-11-01* The rise in articles written by journalists who are just sharing their opinion on matters has increased leftward biased to greatly, I would hate to see this be balanced by right wing opinions also for the reason that news should be factual. If someone says the house is burning get out, I need to get out first before we say it’s this persons fault. With the shutdown I have seen a great many opinion pieces blaming republicans from journalists, ok and what about the hundreds of articles testifying to the fact that 60 votes are needed to pass a budget. These journalist get to veto my feed with their 4 year degrees and Starbucks and it’s not making me too happy. Allerdings spreche ich Deutsch und lerne Englisch. Ein deshalb nützliches Feature meiner Meinung nach wäre deshalb, dass man Artikel auf bedarf übersetzen lässt. I like that this company works with the news outlets, highlighting specific stories from some of them and placing them in your feed, as well as making it easy to click through to the news outlet’s website directly to read the full article. ### 5/5 — Best News App *2026-06-17, version 1.1.45* This is the best news app by a mile.
