It took me a while to find it on the App Store because all the apps that were first were either; • paid • trashy • or had ads! However this game has none of these above features, which I love! No ads!? I don’t think I’ve played a game that doesn’t have ads in mabey 6ish years on my phone (I don’t have a computer or console). When I first found the app I immediately saw that it had good reviews and then after watching the short teaser trailer I downloaded it. (I’m gonna keep waffling about why it’s a really great app if u want to continue reading be my guest but if u want to get to what I think they should mabey ADD IN FUTURE UPDATES plz skip to the bottom) I got this app at the start of a trip with my parents to an isolated house in the country side. They got pretty angry at me when I kept on saying ‘can I just...’ , but my persistence didn’t always last. This game is very addictive, I would sometimes spend hours on end playing it and I wouldn’t even notice it. I first started to look and see if there were any people who made videos about how to make buildings, people or animals in a voxel editor. All the tutorials that I found online people were using a voxel editor on a computer. After fiddling around with the settings in the app I could almost replicate all of the tools (Almost). If u want these tools u click the gray arrow in the bottom right corner and then select the settings button (u know the gray wheel thing) and then turn advanced tools on (I always have this thing on) u are now able to speed u processes such as building a huge square (I don’t have a better example) instead of placing block by block u can place them in what I can only describe as layers. Once again this is an amazing app and I hope u enjoy it! ( I am not one the developers : ) ) ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• THIS IS THE SECTION WHERE I TALK ABOUT THINGS THEY COULD POSSIBLY ADD TO THEIR GAME 1) coping and pasting This feature would simply just speed things like replicating a warrior in a vast battlefield multiple times a breeze ( this is in no particular order btw) 2) click and drag drawing This would make things like curves look less artificial, earlier on today I was trying to create a floating island scene but having a click and drag option I had to place it block by block and in the end it look very artificial. 3) transparent blocks This personally would be the coolest thing to add u could create oceans that didn’t look solid and add fish under the first layer of the transparent blue blocks and I think it would just add a whole new level of detail 4) light emitting blocks This is more than just a fun thing to play around with. In this app I can adjust where the ‘sun’ is but if u built a cavern or details in a massive building you and no one else will be able to see these. Let’s say ur building a goblin hideout and u have added statues of goblins to the lower parts of their underground mansion u can simply add some light emitting blocks around them and light up the area. I’m not a game programmer so I have no idea how the developers will do this and I have no way to help u guys. Almost 5 stars! *2018-12-06, version 1.1.5* This pixel builder is honestly the best I have ever seen on the App Store. It’s got good tools, good controls, and I can build consistent things without any interruptions. I would give this 5 stars, but to me, there should be more colors that a user can use, but everything else is A-OK. This app deserves to be the prime app for pixel art and building. ### 4/5 — Best app like this on iOS but could be improved *2018-11-22* This is really good and I would recommend this to all people how want to get started in things like 3D modelling or just want to let there artistic side out, this can be exported easily and you also can use it for unity projects if you want. All the same more could be add eg. Being able to complete one mirror that side to make it complete, the ability to fill in spots and draw rectangles. The toolset is simple but intuitive and things were going pretty well... until suddenly any model I made became sliced and had large portions deleted for seemingly no reason! Needless to say this was quite frustrating and I haven’t been able to use the app since. **Developer response:** Hi, thank you for this comment. We would love to fix it. ### 3/5 — Work Getting Destroyed *2020-12-19* I love Particubes and have been using it for 3+ years but recently the app has started glitching and has ruined all my new creations. When you close the app, and go back into it later, half your design is missing, or just a head, if that, of a character you had finished designing. It’s now fixed in 1.1.11. ### 3/5 — Great but hasnt updated for a year *2020-10-10, version 1.1.9* This is a great 3d voxel app but its lacking tools like, select, textures, blur, glowing material, different sized blocks, and i feel like you have given up on this app as you haven't changed it in a year. **Developer response:** Hi! That being said, we’ll keep that one in place and update it one or twice. Adding iCloud support and other small improvements. Textures and materials will never be supported though, it’s possible to export your creations into .vox to do that in Magicavoxel or in other softwares. Thank you! ### 3/5 — Best Voxel App *2019-08-11, version 1.1.9* This is the most user-friendly and polished voxel app on the App Store. It’s still in development so look forwarding to more features! Export to magicavoxel needs a way to preserve the colors or export a palette alongside. If dev is reading then please add spritesheet export, so we can export PNGs of different angles for sprites. ### 3/5 — Oops I meant 3 stars *2019-05-12, version 1.1.8* I thought that it would be AR! ### 4/5 — I want to love this so bad but… *2022-04-12, version 1.1.11* it has some difficult flaws. I really have been enjoying this app which is why I’m giving 4 stars, but I’ve run into a few frustrating issues. Positives: - Easy to place/destroy/change colors - Easy grid button - Nice layer placement option Negatives: - The camera and the camera controls (biggest negative for me). The camera locks to a particular spot so if you are trying to build a house for example, you might zoom a little too far out and then lock yourself out of the house. Then you have to wrangle the camera again to get back to the entrance of your building to go inside. Overall the movement just feels clunky. - The lighting can be dark at times, even with adjusting brightness on my phone Other than those two things this app is awesome. The camera is very easy to work with, the models being exportable is really helpful, and it’s very fun to mess around with this app when I’m bored. However, I think it’d be cool if there was a much wider array of colors. Perhaps a feature that allows the user to use a photo on their device as the color palette or something like that? Actually in particular that exact feature, as well as a color slider. Basically, I’m suggesting that more colors should be added, and that a feature that allows you to use a photo on your device as the palette should also be added. Both of these features would make me give the app a 5 star rating. As it stands it gets a 4 star rating. Anyway that’s the review. You can use it to build as many scenes as you want and position the camera for it. Pair this with the app called Poseit(also free) and you have anything you could need in terms of resources. I love that there’s no ads and it’s completely free to use, I also love that it auto saves and the interface is simple to use. The only issue I have with this is that when you move the camera and let go of the screen, the perspective moves a bit and it can make positioning the camera hard, I’d appreciate it if you fixed that. I tried CAD programs and a home design/blueprint app, but they were too hard to use and overqualified for my purposes. I tried a Minecraft knockoff, and realized I had to mine my materials in order to build, so I deleted that too. This app, on the other hand, is beautiful. The controls are simple; it took me only ten minutes to learn. I like the grid on/off feature, so I can see exactly where I’m placing the blocks. The light source feature is useful for illuminating small details on a particular side of the object. The photo option is amazing for getting camera angles. I haven’t used it yet, but I also appreciate the fact that you can export the project into three different formats (which I may do in the future, if it suits my needs). Moving around is a little clunky, but that’s probably because I’m trying to maneuver on the inside of a hollow object (I’ll glitch through walls, and suddenly speed out of the building’s offices at times); but if I try hard enough, I can get the camera angles I want. I do wish there were a color wheel/spectrum where you can custom-make your own colors, as opposed to using a palette; but I’m going to be tracing over everything anyway, so it’s not that big of a deal.
