They write a good piece of software small and efficient in size and the price they charge , for the platform you use is equitable. You’re own it and you’re done The fact that they continue to offer upgrades for all the platforms is admirable and what a good company should do . As they state on their website there’s only been one paid upgrade it was for windows base users , in last 10 years. . The fact that they continue to write a piece of software that overtime has not become bloated and unusable it is still streamlined and efficient. So many companies succumb to creating huge resource consuming applications and that’s when I abandon them . there are very few that maintain a good integrity with their code and as well as cross platform support and allowing legacy devices to run. This company has maintained the quality and integrity of their product. The next thing that is also top on my list. this piece of software will run on older iPhones for example you don’t have to have the latest $1200 phone to run it . they get five stars just for just for that alone they continue to include everyone that may want to use their software. they even offer Versions free to try out, although not all features are available very nicely done no doubt anyone who uses it will most likely want to buy it after that. They don’t limited to use. Third they give wonderful options and integrations that any good password manager would have . your encryption your syncing options back up options all those features are top notch. They Have a variety of ways to store your encrypted file even if you don’t want to snyc your back up to the close options are available and make it easy. They are up to par with all the highest encryption levels and compete with any of the major password makers out there ### 5/5 — Great App *2026-02-11, version 7.3.31* I have been using Data Vault for years and highly recommend it. With all of the passwords required it is impossible to keep track of them without an app like Data Vault. I also use it to keep track of frequent flier numbers, access codes, login information and other information I need to keep secure but also have with me at all times. Went through all of the FAQs, they do not match. So I have no solution and no way to get a hold of anybody to get a solution. “Customer service” is working on developing new apps. How about work on helping me with my problem? It hasn’t been updated in 5 years so clearly the compatibility issues are not - and will never be - fixed. I spent $5 way back when for the app, but it’s too important to have a place to store passwords when there are other options out there that work and will be supported. Mysteriously 6 months ago, it started dumping temp files on the MacBook hard drive, nearly 1MB each several times per minute. I noticed I was running out of storage space, and discovered that these temp files were by that point using 160GB of storage. Despite reaching out to Ascendo support, a solution was not identified and the support team fell quickly silent and unresponsive despite several follow-ups. Needing an alternative, I found Bitwarden which is free, a much more up to date app, works seamlessly across all devices/platforms, and readily imported Datavault’s CSV file. A disappointing end to a long run with DataVault. ### 1/5 — Never syncs to PC *2025-02-19, version 7.3.31* I tried moving this onto my PC, and I had a lot of trouble. But I recently bought a new PC with a different system, etc., etc., a fresh install of windows… and guess what? This thing still won’t sync. If you are only using a Mac, this works fine from iOS to your Mac. But if you have a PC, and you think you’re going to have success with this software, you are not. ### 1/5 — Bugs and no updates in the last four years *2025-01-05, version 7.3.31* This app holds and stores your info on your phone, but there has been no updates in the past four years. When I attempted to restore all my password data to the new device, it rejected the request with the message “password must be the same as the one used at the time of backup”. The passwords are the same. I emailed support twice and finally received a reply…. the fix suggested was to re-boot the iPad. This did not work. I’ve found it to be very flexible in terms of storing data- I particularly appreciate the notes section in each record. I tried some other ones and they either were cumbersome to use or you had to pay a subscription or both. DataVault is user friendly with no subscription. I sync my data through the cloud to keep things up-to-date on the go and sync over WIFI with my wife. I also sync over WIFI with my son who lives 1,900 miles away whenever I see him because he is the executer of our estate and it is critical that he has all of our current information available in case it is ever needed. The creators of DataVault are also extremely responsive. A few weeks ago I received a pop-up on my Mac saying the app wouldn't be available on future OS updates as Apple is migrating away from Intel based support. So I reached out to Ascendo (DataVault's developer) and asked them if they were aware and were planning on an update. I received a response a few hours later saying they were aware and working on an update. Then about a week or so later I received a personal follow-up email informing me the update was complete and available in Apple's App Store. Far more capable than Apple passwords for storing account details beyond simple passcodes. Works across Apple devices and even has a super-convenient Apple Watch app that lets you look up details without needing to access your phone. It’s been my go-to for years and is still being active supported by the developer. Freshly updated for Apple silicon on Mac too, as of May 2026. Never had any issues with synchronization or data corruption. I was frazzled a little bit on my Mac air laptop when OS said would not support after late 2027 or 2028. Checked with Ascendo support & they were about to roll out a new version. That did so I’m all set. They let me know they were aware of the situation and was working on the problem. Couple of weeks later I get a follow up email station the update was ready and check my app to see if it got downloaded. It did. I was so impressed my there communication with me. This seems to be a fading and rare behavior with company. I will stick by any company that has good customer service and treats me like I matter.
