### 5/5 — Excellent Resource for Pastors

*2014-08-22*

This is an excellent resource for LCMS pastors. While I don't bring my iPad on pastoral calls, it is very helpful in preparing prayers, checking rites, choosing hymn texts, etc. Thanks, CPH!

### 5/5 — An App for every chap

*2013-12-17*

Chaplains, pastors, elders and visitors of the sick, homebound and hospitalized can benefit from this resource. The propers for each Sunday and feast day (according to the calendar of the Lutheran Service Book) could only be inproved by including the introit and source(s) for the introit. Well done.

### 5/5 — Invaluable Resource

*2011-12-07*

The "Pastoral Care Companion" is equally valuable as a "Layman's Care Companion." I have found the prayers and other resources of immense value in caring for my family and friends. Being able to have it on my iPhone will make this resource available wherever I find myself. I especially like the fact that all the Propers have the full texts of all the lectionary readings for the entire church year. You can also select the one-year or three-year lectionary. Here's a tip that took a little time to figure out. To take advantage of the 8 Psalm tones which include audio of pipe organ accompaniment, you have to go to "More" button at the bottom, click on "Options" and turn on "Chant Markings" which is off in the default mode you download it in. This is also where you can choose between the one-year and three-year lectionaries, as well as change the font size for the program. You can also select "Inverted Mode" which displays the readings and rites in night mode (white text on black background). This really is a fantastic resource that I would suggest the head of every family should have in print and/or electronic format. I have recommended the book countless times to fellow laymen. Thanks, CPH, for providing this. I have a couple suggestion for a future update. The additional resources of the "Visitation" book edited by Revs. Arthur Just and Scott Kinnaman would be a nice add-on. It would also be nice to be able to edit the bookmarks.

### 1/5 — Crashes on opening

*2016-10-10*

Still crashes on opening with ios10

### 2/5 — I want to like it

*2012-11-04*

I like the app for what it promises to do. I have a 3Gs phone and it seems to crash every time I open it. When I get it to work, I'll be able to comment on it more accuratly.

### 2/5 — Pastor

*2012-04-19*

Good resource tool, unfortunately not very user friendly. For instance, there is no provision to delete bookmarks or notes in current version of this software. Would be nice to see actual calendar (or at least see where Sundays fall when selecting dates for propers and be able to enter notes tied directly to propers and save them by date (ie for planning sermons). Would also be good if the notes could be output in some fashion - emailed or printed. Would also be nice to hear hymn tunes, but that's because I don't read music.
Ultimately a good start and I hope CPH takes it further. It would quickly become this pastor's favorite app!

### 3/5 — Can you please implement Split screen for iPads?

*2021-10-25*

Can you please implement Split screen for iPads?

### 3/5 — Psalm tone won't play

*2013-01-26*

Scads of content. But psalm tone doesn't play on Ipad 3. Wish I could print out parts of contents.

### 3/5 — Needs iPad native version!

*2011-12-20*

This is a great app and what I have wanted (better than using the Kindle version) but please, please bring a native iPad version of this app. I purchased without reading closely (but it does say for iPad, but has no "+" sign for univeral usage) and don't like having to use the "2x" button to fill the screen - not the best quality this way. Otherwise a great app and hopefully I won't have to pay again to get the native iPad version!

(only gave 3 stars since it is not iPad native, otherwise it is 5 stars!)

### 4/5 — Jason Braaten

*2012-05-30*

A handy app for on the go. I only wish that under the Propers tab the Sunday Introits, Graduals, and Tracts were among the selected readings for Sundays and Feast Days.

### 4/5 — Almost there...

*2012-02-22*

Glad to see the universality for iPhone/iPad was added, but it crashed on my iPad as soon as I opened it. Deleting the app and reinstalling seems to have solved the issue. Love the appearance on the iPad's big screen.

### 4/5 — Good, but not great yet

*2011-12-08*

Excellent way to take some ministry tools on the road. Psalms even have the music to listen to. However, none of the hymns seem to have the printed music let alone the audio. Seems a bit like an after thought rather than integration into the app. Hymns also do not have the option to list them by hymn number. Finally, this one has me stumped, no iPad version. Thats unfortunate and shows a lack of foresight. Using an iPhone app on an iPad is NOT the same as an iPad app. This is an excellent start, but not quite 5 stars yet. As the first generation of this application, it's a great start.

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2025-10-17*

As a reformed and presbyterian pastor (now retired) I found this small little tool extremely helpful in my ministry. Great prayers for many different occasions. My only quirk on that app, if I may call it that, is that I couldn’t copy and paste some of those prayers and other helpful resources on this app.

### 5/5 — Great resource for Pastoral Care

*2024-06-29*

A tremendous resource with tools to help a pastor, or seelsorger, care for those in need. I have the print Pastoral Care Companion, but it isn't always in my pocket or car, my phone is.
The only addition I'd make is the ability to select a few more hymns, though those provided are nice.

### 5/5 — Good but needs the one year lectionary

*2020-09-29*

This is a decent application but it needs a one year lectionary option. Please add the one year lectionary.

### 5/5 — Convenient and Useful

*2019-03-05*

I don’t always have my Pastoral Care Companion with me, but I’ve always got my phone. This allows me to have access to important prayers and rites I might need when I’m away from the church or have to make an unplanned visit. It has the option for the one-year lectionary, chant pointing for the psalms, and basic hymn texts.

### 5/5 — Excellent.

*2016-12-03*

I love being able to check the upcoming lections while I am in the grocery line. And I am never at a loss for words in any pastoral situation.

### 5/5 — Wonderful update

*2016-05-12*

The iOS 9 update is a wonderful enhancement of an already excellent app.

ANY Pastor (Lutheran or not) could benefit from the wisdom distilled and made so readily available on this app. Thanks CPH!

### 5/5 — What a great app!

*2016-04-06*

This is a generous app, and I greatly appreciate the resources included. I agree with the earlier comment that bookmarks should return you to your exact place. This is the first CPH app I've owned which works better than anything else out there, and the first pastoral app to make me wholeheartedly excited. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Ministry agenda at hand

*2015-12-17*

Very helpful in my ministry to the shut in and for all my pastoral calls.

### 5/5 — Love it! (but here are 3 suggestions)

*2015-05-02*

This app is awesome! Having it on my phone means it is ALWAYS with me. I prefer this to my paper version since the paper version is now to small for me to read anymore. I have 3 suggestions for future versions. 1. Bookmarks should be able to go right to the exact paragraph you want to start with, not just the beginning of each rite, etc. 2. The font sizes are fine now, but as my eyes age, I hope there will be larger font size choices in the future (Note: I am using this on an iPhone 6 plus) 3. Something to add to the wish list would be audio files for the hymns since there are no notes (If needed, I can go to my new LSB Hymnal iBook for the printed notes) Anyway, thanks for a GREAT resource!

### 5/5 — Every pastor must own this

*2014-09-12*

This is rather Lutheran in its style but any pastor can use the prayers, the scripture readings and the order of services here to make any occasion more beautiful, more godly and more Christ centered. I am a baptist minister and find this indispensable. I use this app for graveside and funeral services, blessing a house, baby dedication and more. This is my go to app for service related ideas, topics, passages and events. If you are a pastor, a chaplain or a church leader, get this.
