The constant extra processes of a button that I have to do to avoid giving feedback have led me to leave this review. Many hours wasted. ### 2/5 — Functioning app however the filter button doesn’t work *2026-03-07* There is lots of specialities and hospitals, unfortunately the filter button doesn’t seem to work. It makes the app screen go a different colour but no buttons/options are present. **Developer response:** I'm so sorry to hear you have been experiencing issues with the filters. Many thanks, Ellie ### 4/5 — Good app *2025-12-06, version 5.0.18* Easy to operate ### 2/5 — Main issues *2025-08-05, version 4.4.5* Main qualms: user interface is not the friendliest, and it is not possible to simply email completed shifts to the responsible approvers (practically speaking, it would be way better if the app could automatically send shifts for approval to expedite processing). Otherwise fine app. ### 3/5 — Great idea but app is slow *2024-02-22* Patchwork has the potential to be superb as it solves many historic problems with locum booking and pay but the app is rather let down by being slow and constantly freezing. I have used the app for some years now and hope one day soon they can resolve these issues! ### 3/5 — Clunky *2023-11-05, version 3.12.6* This is a typical app that the NHS uses. With each update there’s a new problem. It’s very clunky and the filters are hopeless. It’s better than the constant need for paper expenses but could be much more slick. ### 2/5 — App won’t load despite updating *2023-11-05, version 3.12.6* Won’t get past sign in page !! ### 1/5 — Doesn’t do notifications despite what WhatsApp user support says *2023-07-20* I’ve contacted the WhatsApp user support who tells me the notifications definitely work. But they simply don’t.. I have an iPhone 13 on the latest ios. The app doesn’t display in the notifications in the iPhone settings. When you click on patchwork within the main ios menu there is no option to display notifications. So there is a fundamental fault with the app. Other reviews say exactly the same thing. This is a big disadvantage because I now have to check the shifts on the app a few times a day whereas if notifications worked I wouldn’t have to. ### 1/5 — Lumpy at best *2022-09-06* Poorly implanted app. Marginally better than before but it loves to reset all filters pretty often so you have to wade through masses of irrelevant stuff or keep redoing the filters each and every time. The chat help function has not been working every time I have looked. Shifts booked and worked have not shown in the app, so I have to get it manually signed off by the organiser and I have no way of tracking all this in the app. Life is too short to bother with this junk ### 1/5 — Keeps crashing *2022-06-01, version 3.8.13* After latest update in May, the app cannot be used as it keeps crashing. Please fix. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Unhappy with this app *2026-05-22, version 6.1.2* Despite multiple checks, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I still don’t get notifications, I can’t just check continuously when shifts are added. All my team has the same issue. ### 1/5 — Popups *2026-03-09, version 5.0.34* Continued popups demanding a review. App is fine. UI frustrating. ### 1/5 — An awful bureaucratic system *2025-11-22* You can book shifts in advance, true. But, given that this app is for healthcare workers. There’s no way on the app to automatically get rid of your breaks if you don’t have any. Then, once you’ve finished your shift and submit it, it has three hurdles: get approved, approved for payment, and finally with pay role. Which can, and has led to many people not paid for weeks. Pointless steps no doubt to justify more jobs, or more charge to the nhs. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy with aspects of using Patchwork. Can’t believe the NHS have committed us to this ### 1/5 — Crashing *2025-05-16, version 4.3.5* Keeps crashing. Unable to open app. I’ve deleted and re-download multiple times. ### 1/5 — Bring back rates per hour *2025-04-27, version 4.3.0* Glitchy app, but really frustrated the rate per hour has been removed, just displays the total rate. I have lost out on so many shifts because this app doesn’t work. Customer support is extremely poor and leave you frustrated just telling you to turn on notifications.
