## What is Patook?

Patook is THE strictly platonic friend making app! As seen on TechCrunch, Wired magazine, Geekwire, Engadget, The Sun, The Telegraph and many more.
You were looking for apps to make new friends and ended up on this page.

Maybe you’ve moved in the past few years, live in a tiny (or huge) city, graduated, or just have this gut feeling that there are people out there who would make awesome friends to you, and you to them.

Or you found a couple of other “friend” apps, but then after trying them, realized that they were full of people looking for more than friendship.

Well guess what – Patook is an app strictly for friendships. So strictly in fact, that we have developed our own automatic method to detect when someone is flirting. We’ve even included a no-flirting clause in our terms of service so we ban such users. Any person who attempts to flirt via the app will get their account permanently banned before their message even makes it into your inbox.

The result? Women, men, couples and others on this app have the same goal and the same expectations.

If you’re on Patook, it’s to make great platonic friends. Period.

If that’s not enough to sway you, Patook has proprietary methods that match you to people who are similar to you. That means people who like the same things, and also dislike the same things. It calculates a point score for each user and tells you how compatible you are with them. So, instead of picking your “friends” based on giant pictures of them, you actually look through shared interests and pick which interests you care the most about.
Want even more control? Want to find a friend who speaks French, plays the violin, likes the same shows you do? Patook's point system allows you to give out points for traits you like, and then each user gets a little score shown next to their name.

Give it a shot. Let us know what you think. We’re still new but our users are fantastic. And if you’ve read this far, so are you!
More notes:

* The matches tab shows you nearby users who you have a good chance of getting along with. Patook is centered around connecting compatible people together. The score shown on the top right is the result of your point system.

* The discussions tab acts as a local bulletin board where user can post various topics, discussions, jokes or rants. Discussions are visible to everyone within your area, so by posting to them you are effectively broadcasting messages to the neighborhood. People can then upvote and respond to the topics and the most interesting topics get surfaced. This helps kickstart conversations between people.

* The point system gives users more control in finding compatible users. For example, you can give 20 points to women, 10 points to people who speak French, and 20 points who are originally from the United States. The point count shows up next to the user's names.

* You can log in with Facebook to speed things up, but you don’t have to.

* Patook takes security and privacy very seriously. We have made as many privacy options as we could think of available. Our moderators are also happy to respond to any feedback from you.

We hope you enjoy using this app. Please feel free to message us if you have any questions or comments about it (please do not send us unsolicited ideas or suggestions), and spread the word.

Join the thousands of people who have made new friends or found a BFF on Patook!

### 1/5 — Unreadable text, horrifying UX

*2022-12-08, version 12.7*

There is no way to register on the web site. The macOS app uses tiny text with very poor contrast and non-standard navigation. For example, after selecting a city (very difficult, requiring various mouse clicks and double-clicks, typing, then selecting from a weird non-native popup), there is no way to proceed to the next step.

Overall, the UX is 1980's vintage, but without the finesse.

I was unable to try the functionality of the app because I couldn't create an account. Maybe the iOS version works? I am unmotivated to try. If this is how shoddy ther UI is, how much worse are their security controls?

### 4/5 — Pretty darn good

*2022-10-17, version 12.6*

I just started with the program, but I’m already really excited. My only minor complaint is that I wish it worked better with the voice over feature on my iPhone. Being blind, if apps aren’t designed to work with the voiceover than it is essentially useless a lot of the time. This one is a little awkward, but I can navigate it with my voiceover. I hope perhaps they can improve on that. I don’t typically review a lot of apps, because of the extra effort of doing it through voiceover, but I thought this one was worth the time.

### 5/5 — Surprisingly great

*2022-10-03, version 12.6*

I love this app so far and wish more local people were on it, though I’ve made truly interesting online friends in less than a month. I love that you create the content in your profile and you’re not fed lame fill-in-the-blank prompts like so many apps. I love that it’s totally free to use too. There are some problems with bugs and it’s not a visually attractive app in my opinion, but compared to Bumble BFF, Vina, and something else I tried, this is my hands-down favorite.

### 1/5 — From hero to zero

*2022-06-12, version 12.6*

Got off to a good start with this app and met three potential friends - two men and one woman (I’m a man). Good conversation with them all and I was feeling really positive about the app. Then suddenly my messages stopped being delivered. Instead of being able to form friendships with these people, I now look like a jerk that just dropped them in the middle of conversation. There was nothing inappropriate in the chats that would have flagged any concern, so I’m a bit confused. Having done some research, it seems a lot of people are affected by this issue. I’ve contacted Patook support for assistance and hope to hear back.

### 3/5 — i enjoyed it and then chats started disappearing.

*2022-05-19, version 12.6*

something about the way i talk to people (i.e. mentioning snapchat filters, for example) seems to trigger patook automated messages about sharing personal info even though i haven’t actually shared any personal info. and three times now, i have had chats disappear from my inbox, nowhere to be found. i have zero reason to think i’ve been blocked; all three people were highly engaged with me and we looked forward to each other’s conversations. one of them was even able to get a notification through before i lost the chat that said something along the lines of “yay you’re back, i thought we got blocked!” well, apparently i’m not back and we DID get blocked and we have no idea why!! we’re both girls, we’re both straight, we didn’t flirt or share personal info but now we can’t see each other. she was one of my favorite new friends on this app and now the wind is just taken out of my sails; what’s the point of investing in people if you’re going to seemingly randomly lose contact for good? 😭💔 so, i filed bug reports and i’ve stopped using this app. if i don’t get support/an explanation in a week or so, i’ll be deleting my profile and the app cos i don’t have the energy to invest in conversations that might suddenly disappear on me with no explanation.

just be aware that this is an issue. i’ll update my review if i hear back from patook.

### 3/5 — On the Right Track…

*2021-12-15, version 12.6*

The app has helped me gain exactly what I was looking for: platonic connections online and offline. The only downside to this app are the routine glitches, poor app management, and technical problems. For example, your account may get flagged/deleted for using a word that was deemed “inappropriate” or “flirting” when in reality it truly is not. People may message you or you may message them but the messages will not show up for days. Occasionally, when others want to message you back, your account has mysteriously disappeared as if you’ve deleted your own account. If this app is able to get all of these moments of technical problems worked out, it will be the next big thing. Hence, this app is on the right track.

### 1/5 — Fake notifications

*2021-09-19, version 12.5*

As an update to fake notifications. I get one for this person just joined Patook near you say hi. I open the app by the notification and it takes me right to my list and not the persons profile or a list of new people. I don’t think you can fail any harder than you have. It’s time to find a new job or just actually start working at Patook instead of sitting on your hands.
If there’s one thing I hate more than apps that do notification after notification it’s apps that send fake notifications. I always get your profile has been viewed by an amount of people and when I open the app it’s nowhere near the number it told me if at all. Just got one that a discussion started near me and open the app and guess what. No new discussion near me. This app is like the desperate person trying to get their friends to notice them. I try to use this app to make friends but all these false notifications are making it so I delete this crap of an app.

### 2/5 — Amazing idea, bad app

*2021-09-09, version 12.5*

I’m so terribly disappointed and upset. I made a well thought out profile and I actually got a lot of matches and made what I though would be really good friends! I have Manic Depression and severe social anxiety but I’m better at starting friendships out online. This absolutely made my year, I was giddy and excited but then all of a sudden absolutely none of my messages were sending and I had chats disappearing. I think my account was flagged? Apparently this is common due to poor Ai, to use the word “upset” would be an understatement. Not once did I do anything that was flirting and I’m just so confused, everyone I talked to was very nice so I know it wasn’t someone just reporting me. What a let down.

### 4/5 — Works great except for the bugs

*2021-08-31, version 12.5*

The app has been great to find and make new friends. I’d highly recommend it. But the current version of the app has too many bugs. I am currently unable to send or receive messages with folks I matched with. I sent in a bug report and hopefully this will get resolved soon. I will keep this updated. Apart from the bugs, this app is great.

### 1/5 — I’m disappointed

*2020-08-25, version 12.3*

Really thought I found something great to connect with people. Couldn’t tell if it was people or bots. It’s run by bots. Chatted briefly...very briefly with 2 people. A bit more with another & then nothing. Glitchy yes. Kept bring up the same people I already had picked or not. I kept adding to my profile & & it didn’t stay. I sent messages ~~~ nothing.
Finally I sent a message I was deleting account did they have any suggestions. Nothing again even from one contact.
I deleted my account. What a waste!!!

Also needs way too much information & personality abbreviations from Wikipedia 😣
