### 4/5 — Pretty darn good

*2022-10-17, version 12.6*

I just started with the program, but I’m already really excited. My only minor complaint is that I wish it worked better with the voice over feature on my iPhone. Being blind, if apps aren’t designed to work with the voiceover than it is essentially useless a lot of the time. This one is a little awkward, but I can navigate it with my voiceover. I hope perhaps they can improve on that. I don’t typically review a lot of apps, because of the extra effort of doing it through voiceover, but I thought this one was worth the time.

### 3/5 — i enjoyed it and then chats started disappearing.

*2022-05-19, version 12.6*

something about the way i talk to people (i.e. mentioning snapchat filters, for example) seems to trigger patook automated messages about sharing personal info even though i haven’t actually shared any personal info. and three times now, i have had chats disappear from my inbox, nowhere to be found. i have zero reason to think i’ve been blocked; all three people were highly engaged with me and we looked forward to each other’s conversations. one of them was even able to get a notification through before i lost the chat that said something along the lines of “yay you’re back, i thought we got blocked!” well, apparently i’m not back and we DID get blocked and we have no idea why!! we’re both girls, we’re both straight, we didn’t flirt or share personal info but now we can’t see each other. she was one of my favorite new friends on this app and now the wind is just taken out of my sails; what’s the point of investing in people if you’re going to seemingly randomly lose contact for good? 😭💔 so, i filed bug reports and i’ve stopped using this app. if i don’t get support/an explanation in a week or so, i’ll be deleting my profile and the app cos i don’t have the energy to invest in conversations that might suddenly disappear on me with no explanation.

just be aware that this is an issue. i’ll update my review if i hear back from patook.

### 3/5 — On the Right Track…

*2021-12-15, version 12.6*

The app has helped me gain exactly what I was looking for: platonic connections online and offline. The only downside to this app are the routine glitches, poor app management, and technical problems. For example, your account may get flagged/deleted for using a word that was deemed “inappropriate” or “flirting” when in reality it truly is not. People may message you or you may message them but the messages will not show up for days. Occasionally, when others want to message you back, your account has mysteriously disappeared as if you’ve deleted your own account. If this app is able to get all of these moments of technical problems worked out, it will be the next big thing. Hence, this app is on the right track.

### 4/5 — Works great except for the bugs

*2021-08-31, version 12.5*

The app has been great to find and make new friends. I’d highly recommend it. But the current version of the app has too many bugs. I am currently unable to send or receive messages with folks I matched with. I sent in a bug report and hopefully this will get resolved soon. I will keep this updated. Apart from the bugs, this app is great.

### 4/5 — If you’re tired of getting hit on, try this app

*2020-03-31, version 12*

It’s great if you don’t like getting hit on. I haven’t been disrespected like on a lot of other chatting apps. There just doesn’t seem to be a lot of people on there yet, maybe. But if you go through enough matches, you’re bound to find someone that wants to talk! And of course I think it’s supposed to be for people just looking for casual conversations, friends, platonic friendships. It’s not a hookup app. And for that I’m thankful that there is an app out there like this. It’s really the only one I’ve used that isn’t basically just a hookup app. The level of respect is outstanding and I look forward to new friendships & conversations! Thank you for this app.

### 2/5 — No matches in the entire country

*2020-02-23, version 11.9*

I got rid of all two of my strict preferences for zero tolerance of smoking and anarchism and with a huge age range from 21 to 36 kept going out from 10 miles, 25 miles, 100 miles, 250 miles, the state, and finally the entire country and I have yet to match with anyone because there is ‘no one that fits my criteria’. I was notified of a new user within 25 miles of me before going the entire country route and only through her looking at my profile was I able to send a message. Very frustrating to see the people that passed on me and they’re the only ones I can message. Something is buggy. Please fix this. This is a great concept.

### 4/5 — So far so good.

*2019-10-05, version 11.5*

I just started using the app to just find people to meet not date and it’s been pretty easy to get started. My only problem was the profile info kind of disappeared after I filled in some stuff, but I think I didn’t do something right. I’d say give it a try if your just looking to make friends and not to date, it’s very refreshing to finally see and use an app that’s purely about platonic friendships.

### 3/5 — Still needs work

*2019-08-30, version 11.5*

This app has a few things that need to be smoothed out still. First, if you change your results for the questionnaire the point system will keep all your old answers. So now the point system is messed up for you, if you wanted to change something you still have the same old filters. This is clearly a glitch. Second, there is no way to filter out people that speak a completely different language than you, effectively rendering them being a match as pointless because if you tried to talk you couldn’t anyway! Yet my matches are spammed with people I can’t even talk to. I’ve found maybe two people so far I could connect with, and some nearby, but overall this app still needs some work.

### 3/5 — Great app!

*2019-07-23, version 11.5*

The app itself is pretty great! They take the friend thing seriously. I found the friend I hang out with the most using his app.

The only issue is it’s not popular enough. If more people used it and more people using it actually used it it would be as good as it should be. I stopped using the app for about a year and came back to make more friends and it’s even more dry than it was.

Also one problem that’s really bugging me is that I cannot for the life of me delete pictures. I would really appreciate it if the next update fixed that!

### 2/5 — Disappearing chats

*2019-04-20, version 10.1*

Great app however I’ve recently been losing a lot of chats! The reasons Patook gives for them not showing up are definitely not why they are disappearing. I’ve talked to people and it was going great then all the sudden their chat disappears and I cannot find them again! I talked to another user and they were having the same problem!
Trying to contact Patook is so pointless and will not get you anywhere since its all automated and you are basically just talking to a computer. Its a great concept but way too many bugs and I think the app is a little too strict. And there’s no explanation for the disappeared chats.

### 3/5 — Good concept

*2019-01-16, version 10.0*

I like the idea of this app since I'm not looking to date anyone right now and every other site is a dating site even if it specifies it's a place to just meet people. However, I don't know if there's just not a lot of people in my state on here but I have the app trying to find people near me and so it gives me people all from the state next to me, which really isn't near me. I did try to reach out to a couple people who viewed my profile and seemingly rejected me because I got no match or response from them. I'm guessing it's because they want to meet people from their state. I wouldn't mind having an internet long distance friend but I suppose in-person friendships can be more meaningful so I can't say I blame them. Maybe I'll give it some more time. Who knows, my next best friend could be on here.

### 4/5 — Why not!

*2019-01-13, version 10.0*

It is what you put into it and how you interact with people. I like the world connection thing. Make a friend from England, say hello to a lady from Australia, meet a guy from Argentina, or a young couple from Pittsburgh with common interests. I’ll put it this way. My grandma (a widow of 5 kids)was an avid writer and pen pal. She corresponded with people from all over the world. On a teachers salary she was on a limited budget. She made friends on every continent and always had a place to stay overseas and she was never bored when she got home because she always had interesting company coming to visit. She would have loved this app. This app could give you a good start to never being bored again with a little screening to boot! Undoubtedly more than she ever had! Of course you don’t have to take it that far. Have fun!

### 3/5 — The app is pretty good BUT

*2018-12-26, version 10.0*

I have no complaints about the app OVERALL it’s a good app with good intentions , very simple and to the point . But the users are what destroys this app this app is specially platonic and to make friends but no one ever replies. They will blatantly ignore your message , you’ll will have a perfect match with someone and they will just read your message and ignore it OR in mid conversation they will just stop replying and leaving your message on read. And I’ll say that is about 90% of the people on this app. That is the reason for the 3 stars users need to be deleted for constantly doing that .

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unreadable text, horrifying UX

*2022-12-08, version 12.7*

There is no way to register on the web site. The macOS app uses tiny text with very poor contrast and non-standard navigation. For example, after selecting a city (very difficult, requiring various mouse clicks and double-clicks, typing, then selecting from a weird non-native popup), there is no way to proceed to the next step.

Overall, the UX is 1980's vintage, but without the finesse.

I was unable to try the functionality of the app because I couldn't create an account. Maybe the iOS version works? I am unmotivated to try. If this is how shoddy ther UI is, how much worse are their security controls?

### 1/5 — From hero to zero

*2022-06-12, version 12.6*

Got off to a good start with this app and met three potential friends - two men and one woman (I’m a man). Good conversation with them all and I was feeling really positive about the app. Then suddenly my messages stopped being delivered. Instead of being able to form friendships with these people, I now look like a jerk that just dropped them in the middle of conversation. There was nothing inappropriate in the chats that would have flagged any concern, so I’m a bit confused. Having done some research, it seems a lot of people are affected by this issue. I’ve contacted Patook support for assistance and hope to hear back.

### 1/5 — Fake notifications

*2021-09-19, version 12.5*

As an update to fake notifications. I get one for this person just joined Patook near you say hi. I open the app by the notification and it takes me right to my list and not the persons profile or a list of new people. I don’t think you can fail any harder than you have. It’s time to find a new job or just actually start working at Patook instead of sitting on your hands.
If there’s one thing I hate more than apps that do notification after notification it’s apps that send fake notifications. I always get your profile has been viewed by an amount of people and when I open the app it’s nowhere near the number it told me if at all. Just got one that a discussion started near me and open the app and guess what. No new discussion near me. This app is like the desperate person trying to get their friends to notice them. I try to use this app to make friends but all these false notifications are making it so I delete this crap of an app.

### 1/5 — I’m disappointed

*2020-08-25, version 12.3*

Really thought I found something great to connect with people. Couldn’t tell if it was people or bots. It’s run by bots. Chatted briefly...very briefly with 2 people. A bit more with another & then nothing. Glitchy yes. Kept bring up the same people I already had picked or not. I kept adding to my profile & & it didn’t stay. I sent messages ~~~ nothing.
Finally I sent a message I was deleting account did they have any suggestions. Nothing again even from one contact.
I deleted my account. What a waste!!!

Also needs way too much information & personality abbreviations from Wikipedia 😣

### 1/5 — Extremely disappointed

*2020-06-09, version 12.2*

I had really high hopes for this app, and on the surface it seems very good. The whole concept is excellent and I like that you can message whoever you want without having to “match” first

However it is completely useless because it clearly doesn’t work. At first I was seeing a lot of people to match with, which suddenly dwindled down to four and then zero out of nowhere

Secondly, people clearly aren’t getting my messages or seeing my profile at all. I’ve had zero mutual matches so far and also zero responses from anyone I’ve sent messages to which is extremely unlikely given the fact that most of them say “this person is very likely to respond” or “this person almost always replies.”

Clearly something is broken or maybe I got screwed over incorrectly by the auto detection bot because I have done nothing wrong at all. If they can fix my issues and get this thing to work properly I will gladly revise my rating but if that does not happen then this app gets 0 stars from me.

### 1/5 — Great idea, terrible execution

*2020-05-02, version 12.2*

After being shown the app by my ex-husband is quickly signed up, excited to make friends without fear of romantic overtures. Within two days my account was frozen without so much as a notification from the admin people. Others just reported my messages having disappeared and a sca of their FAQ let me know that this likely means they suspected me of flirting... Which I most certainly hadn't even had time to do had I been inclined. Likely, this was based on a joke my ex made when messaging me about refraining from flirting with him, meaning the cat censors are say over-sensitive and the level of privacy makes it hugely unappealing. At the very least have the courtesy to let people know you deactivated their account, don't let them sit around like idiots waiting for messagss. 0 stars, seriously.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2020-01-20, version 11.5*

I was really excited about this! I spent a lot of time setting up my profile and have been using this for a few days. I’ve gotten no emails or notifications of any kind. From what I can tell, my profile is only available for viewing between midnight and 4am as I only get views during that time. My messages must not be going through because even mutual matches who are online don’t respond. And of course, the only customer service is a robot that doesn’t understand my question. I guess I should have been tipped off by the fact that the app hasn’t been updated in 6 months. Will keep the app for a bit longer in case some of my messages decide to go through or it starts to function properly. In the meantime, will be trying a different app. Disappointed in the amount of time I’ve wasted on this.

### 1/5 — It’s pretty good, only...

*2018-11-08, version 9.6*

I was happily using it, and making friends, but there’s a little too much restrictions. My account also seemingly got deleted or something, and I don’t understand what I did wrong. It did say that they have the right to delete or hide account without notifying the user, but I thats a bit of a weird system. How are we supposed to know what we did wrong, if you don’t tell us? It’s very inconvenient when it also seems like I’m ignoring the new potential friends I was talking to. I’m trying to get my account verified again, but it’s been days, and nothing has changed. I’m so frustrated, there is no way to tell the people I was talking to that I’m not ignoring them.

There’s also no swearing on the app, and honestly, many people swear now a days. This is honestly minor compared to my account being hidden with me being notified of it, it was only when one of my friend on Patook send me a text message on the phone to tell me did I realize something was wrong.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2018-11-01, version 9.6*

I have had the app for weeks, created a well thought-out profile with several pictures, and messaged several users only to never have a reply or even one person visit my profile. I then read countless reviews of others having the same issue where the app blocks them due to poorly scripted AI algorithms, which is actually just poorly scripted VI, where it blocks random people for a myriad of reasons that are unbeknownst to the user. I even had a friend of mine create an account where they put similar interests as me and I subsequently messaged them and they never got my message. This only further proves how fundamentally broken the app is.

So if you aren’t getting responses rest assured, it’s most likely not you. I’ve reached out to Patook support nearly a week ago and have yet to receive a response. I will update this review when/if they ever respond and if they fix their app.

### 2/5 — Amazing idea, bad app

*2021-09-09, version 12.5*

I’m so terribly disappointed and upset. I made a well thought out profile and I actually got a lot of matches and made what I though would be really good friends! I have Manic Depression and severe social anxiety but I’m better at starting friendships out online. This absolutely made my year, I was giddy and excited but then all of a sudden absolutely none of my messages were sending and I had chats disappearing. I think my account was flagged? Apparently this is common due to poor Ai, to use the word “upset” would be an understatement. Not once did I do anything that was flirting and I’m just so confused, everyone I talked to was very nice so I know it wasn’t someone just reporting me. What a let down.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Surprisingly great

*2022-10-03, version 12.6*

I love this app so far and wish more local people were on it, though I’ve made truly interesting online friends in less than a month. I love that you create the content in your profile and you’re not fed lame fill-in-the-blank prompts like so many apps. I love that it’s totally free to use too. There are some problems with bugs and it’s not a visually attractive app in my opinion, but compared to Bumble BFF, Vina, and something else I tried, this is my hands-down favorite.

### 5/5 — Profile disappeared?

*2020-03-05, version 11.9*

I was talking to a woman and we really seemed to connect and then her profile and our chat disappeared!! Totally gone! I read from someone else who also wrote a review that the same thing happened to her, and then the same profile appeared a couple days later. I hope this person doesn’t think I just blew her off cause I really enjoyed talking to her....I’m hoping her profile may reappear. Was gonna give it a 5 star rating but not now....

### 5/5 — So many features

*2020-01-23, version 11.5*

I absolutely love this app. I’ve tried a few other friend apps and they don’t really customize the type of people that you’re looking for. This app lets you choose what religion you’re more likely to get along with and how high/low maintenance you would like your friend to be. And that’s just the surface. This platform really allows you to think about what you’re looking for and gives you the room to put in the work if you’re really serious (the bio has no limit!!!!!!). I believe that you are who your friends are and this app really helps me weed out people that I absolutely KNOW I wouldn’t click with. TRY IT!!!!

### 5/5 — The App Our Lonely Generation Has Been Waiting For

*2019-09-01, version 11.5*

I really like this app. Here’s a few solid reasons why.

1. Even in a smaller city I have still been able to meet really cool friends.

2. I haven’t run into any creeps even with my settings open to everybody.

3. Seriously, can we tell the world about this so judgey people who are “just looking for friends” on TINDER a hookup app can know that Patook will fit their needs better?

4. You can set it up as a swipe system or a browse system.

5. The profile information you fill out is thorough without being overbearing.

6. You can assign points to characteristics of potentiometer friend matches. For example, if you’re sober, you can have your algorithm say that someone who drinks frequently would be less of a match for you.

7. App colors are great. Yes this matters.

8. I’ve told multiple friends about this app and they were surprised and excited. So when you join (which you should) tell a bunch of people! This is the app that are lonely online generation has been waiting for.

### 5/5 — Best friend app yet!

*2019-05-27, version 11.2*

I just moved out of state so I’ve been trying different apps to meet people. Patook is by far the best. I love how detailed the personality and preference sections are. It even has a questionnaire to fill out that helps match you with people based on compatibility points! I only wish there were more users, but that’s not Patooks fault. It feels like a dating app but for friendships; which is great bc as an adult I don’t have the time to weed out massive amounts of people who could potentially be compatible. I love seeing, right off the bat, if I’ll get along with a person or not. Oh and one of the best parts is it prevents any unwanted flirting and recognizes words that could be inappropriate in messages and refuses to send them. Overall, this is a really awesome app.

### 5/5 — This app is important and could be so great with more people on it

*2019-04-25, version 10.1*

Loneliness is a major problem, with serious consequences, for a growing number of adults. Apps like this could really help folks who are struggling to make socializing a part of their lives. I think everyone, even folks who aren’t struggling with making friends or socializing, should be on this app rebuilding a sense of community amongst one another.

### 5/5 — It is a great way to find people to talk to

*2019-04-11, version 10.1*

As with a dating app, you’ll click with some people and you won’t click with others. Unlike with a dating app, you really won’t have people flirting with you on the app (no promises for what’ll happen if you meet outside the app, but that’s just because people are people).
I’ve only been using it for a week and have already met someone I think could be a good friend.
I think the swipe function is kind of weird for a friending app, but I guess some people really like that.

### 5/5 — It’s awesome

*2019-03-29, version 10.1*

So I love this app. I have been using it for a few days and it’s amazing. There are a few bugs still and from what I was reading online it’s still in beta I think. I had an issue with logging in once but it was solved relatively quickly. If you have a bug don’t give up. It’s so easy to meet people and it’s fun. So far I have been chatting with three people consistently and it’s only been a few days. I look forward to the new friends I’ll make.

### 5/5 — Really enjoying it so far

*2018-10-24, version 9.6*

This app is really great. As someone that’s in a romantic relationship but doesn’t have that many platonic friends, I’m really excited about using this more and more. I like how detailed the comparability system is and the wide variety of people that are on here. I’ve been chatting with a couple of people and they’re really nice. Overall, great for people that need another friend in this crazy world

### 5/5 — Pretty good so far.

*2018-07-26, version 9.5*

The app is sort of like tender except it’s meant for finding friends.

You can put in lots of preferences like whether you want to make male or female friends, race, orientation, religion, political views, and hobbies. Things like that.

Say for example you’re a girl and are really into photography and want to meet other women of the same age group who like photography as well. You can do that if you want. There’s plenty of options, settings, and preferences for finding whatever you want.
