I really like this app and use it regularly, but there are a few frustrating bugs and limitations that make it difficult to rely on. The biggest issue is the Undo button. Very often, instead of undoing just the last action, it removes a large portion or even all of my drawing. It’s happened multiple times, I have lost a lot of my drawing due to this so I have to be very careful when using it. I currently use the app only to plan my pattern layouts, since the canvas limitations are also disappointing. It doesn’t support creating files at 300 DPI, and the maximum canvas size is quite restrictive. For example, I wanted to create a 24 × 36 inch canvas at 150 DPI (would have preferred 300dpi) but the height was capped at around 26 inches, so I couldn’t make the document I needed. The app also allows a very large number of layers, which is great for some users, but I’d gladly trade that for a larger canvas. I don’t need 60 layers, I only need around 10–20 layers for the patterns I make. It would be much more useful if there were an option to reduce the maximum layer count in exchange for being able to work on larger canvases. This app has a lot of potential, and I enjoy using it, but these issues make it difficult to use for professional design work. I hope the developers address the undo bug and offer more flexibility with canvas size, DPI, and layer allocation in a future update. ### 4/5 — I really like it. *2026-07-24* Longtime use heats up my device fast and causes a lot of lag. The brushes also feel a little wonky, I found some of the strokes end earlier than expected or don’t quite pick up pen pressure right so getting the right lines can take some time. However, this app is a really good tool. It’s very satisfying to see the patterns come to life right away, unlike with procreate pattern making. Bought the full version after a very short use period because I find this app genuinely enjoyable. I would recommend adding more pen settings, such as a pen stabilizer (similar to the one in Procreate). I would also like the option to save or favorite brush sizes for quick access. Overall, this is a great app for creating seamless patterns. Needs more development. *2026-06-26* 3.5 Stars: I really like this app and bought the full version right away. I’m hoping the developers will continue to improve it. There are some really good features and then ones that just fall short. Color layers are nice, but once you choose that you can’t make normal layers when you hit the 20 layer limit; and it’s quick to do so because of the way pattern layers are structured. You have to start merging, which isn’t what is always wanted. Also, if you group layers, you can’t transform groups. What’s the point of a group if you can’t do anything with it without flattening it? There are a number of frustrating issues with selecting layers. You can crop your canvas, but you can’t crop by entering dimensions. Lots of little annoyances that make you want the developers to hurry up and enhance the product. ### 4/5 — Tutorial Walkthrough Please *2026-06-24* Great app but is there a way to access the tutorial again from inside the app? The brushes seem to be low res. No matter what resolution I set, if I export to psd and look at 100% size, the brush strokes are more pixelated compared to exports from procreate or within photoshop. 2. imported images and psd files get heavily compressed. when I export again to psd and look at details, it is a lot more blurry than the original file (which had the same resolution as the pattern draw file and therefore shouldn’t be compressed at all). 3. If I import a psd, the resolution will be reduced without information, even though the dimensions of the file don’t exeed the maximum that my ipad pro m1 can handle. 4. the max filesize seems to be 5000x5000px no matter the resolution. Why not allow to reduce layers instead of size? Why is the limit 5000 per side instead of 25000 square px? For instance, I can’t create a file sized 3600 x 6000 px. I’m happy to change this to more stars if these things are solved. I also wouldn’t be mad if this would be just advertised as a pattern sketching app but on the website it says it can handle export - which I can’t confirm. ### 3/5 — Requests for a rating *2026-05-11* I’m getting sick of being asked to rate the app every time I go back to my gallery. Mas ele trava muito, agora mesmo perdi uma estampa pois o botão de voltar não funciona e é muito ruim isso, as ações não voltam mais, fica travando. Não estou mais desenhando direto nele pois perdi estampas por conta desse problema de clicar em voltar a ação e ele apagar outras coisas nada a ver, muito anteriores as ações. Triste ### 4/5 — Just what I’ve been looking for *2026-04-13* Honestly this is perfect if you’re looking to create or even plan your patterns if you’re more into vector art. For £19.99 lifetime purchase it is totally worth it and the features it has make life so much easier such as swapping colours and exporting it either by tile or pattern preview. The brushes are good quality too. Only thing I have a problem with is occasionally if my hand touches the iPad even with finger paint off it can disrupt the brush flow and leave gaps but as I said it is occasional. Não dá pra criar tudo dentro dele pela limitação de pincéis e mesmo criando dentro do app as bordas também ficam serrilhadas. Can’t even draw a singular bird without the app crashing and needing to re-open the app and re-start… And to fill a color in, it won’t let me fix the threshold to fully color in my drawing. I went back into the app to export my file, and it was replaced with a totally blank file with my pattern lost. We’ve found this issue occurs in rare cases and are actively working on a fix. If you send us the file, we might be able to help you recover it. ### 1/5 — It’s ok *2025-11-08* Lots of bugs. For example duplicating your motif and moving it to a corner is not seamless, it cuts off the work. It only is seamless if you are drawing in real time. Changing the color of artwork doesn’t work well, with color drop. It doesn’t do the entire artwork. When you select an artwork with their lasso tool there’s no option or shortcut to duplicate. If you have an intricate design you can’t select a portion of it to copy. There’s probably more but those are the ones I have run into so far. **Developer response:** We are happy to let you know that these aren’t bugs. 1. We’re updating PatternDraw to display non-drawn elements outside the canvas. This update will be available soon. 2. When filling color, there’s a threshold option in the popup after you apply the fill. To cover the entire artwork, try increasing the percentage. 3. You can tap the selected area to access several options, including duplicate. You can also export the selected area, save it as stickers, or erase it. Thanks again for your comments. Cannot get a larger than 8.333 inch canvas at 300dpi, when exporting png, even though I don’t have a background it gives a white background, and it’s not even 300dpi even though I set it as such. Need to be able to set the amount of layers to get size of canvas the user wants, right now it’s not an option to change it when setting up canvas, nor can you change it when you’re in the canvas. **Developer response:** We’re happy to let you know that the DPI and background issues have been fixed. I would play with it for a bit not sure how to accomplish what I needed to get done, then I would stop for a while. After some time going back, and not giving up I was able to figure it out and now I’m really happy that I stayed with it. This software makes for a nice pattern maker and I can fit it into my current pattern making process now. ### 5/5 — seriously increased my workflow *2026-07-11* This app takes away most of the struggles I usually have with pattern making. I actually really enjoy how smooth and easy it is to draw in, too! The colorways are amazing and just as fun to play with as drawing the patterns are. Absolutely reccommend as it is, but it only keeps getting better with each update. The feature suggestions I have to offer are: Lasso tool getting the same treatment that images got (where going over the boundary doesn’t crop it, I primarily draw and color with lasso tool), Hue/Saturation sliders, ability to save individual layers, bigger brush sizes, exporting different tile sizes (single tile. 3x3, 6x6, etc). I have gone back and forth these many years between Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, and most recently Affinity Designer. Each have their pros and cons. I really believe It all really just comes down to how each individual likes to create. And for me Pattern Draw has me being able to stay in my creative work zone without having to think about any of the technical navigation required in the other applications.
