### 4/5 — Although a great concept and perfect marriage…

*2022-01-05, version 2.2.9*

It seems to have lost something for me… Pattern (the first app) just appealed to me in every way. Simple on the surface and very deep once you explore. I loved the magic of that initial release, and still do. But because I have an iPad Pro I figured I would go ahead and get Pattern 2 because of landscape mode. But felt let down when basically it’s just an iPad version, of the Pattern 1. There were NO new drums or Pattern 2 exclusive drums, so a little let down.
Yes there are some extra features, as there is when buying an iPad app, and getting the free iPhone version.

If you already have the iPhone version, and you love it, maybe just stick with the free iPhone version.
***I will say I didn’t mind paying the developer for his/her work and hours spent on these apps! It was WELL worth the money!

### 4/5 — Amazing!

*2021-11-21, version 2.2.9*

This is the best Euclidean sequencer I have ever seen, on account of the user actually being able to punch in notes. But I wish this app had a feature ing multiple circles at once (like multi-page view) like HI-RPE2 (which does not allow the user to punch in notes, in the Euclidean view) does. I would have given it five stars if it had this feature.

### 4/5 — Amazing but flawed app…

*2021-10-23, version 2.2.9*

This is a fantastic drum machine. The way you construct beats with it is very unique and inspiring. You can easily come up with grooves that you’ve never heard before. But there’s one major featuring missing that’s driving me crazy… you can’t delete patterns once you create them! At least there is no obvious way I can see. If this single issue was fixed, I’d easily rate Patterning 5 stars.

**Developer response:** Hello! On the record and timeline screens there is an x button. Hold that and tap the pattern you’d like to delete. However, you have to be on a pattern other than the one you are deleting. Hope that helps!

### 5/5 — Best

*2021-02-26, version 2.2.8*

There’s nothing that comes close to form and function for this sort of software. I have the most fantastic apps and there’s some amazingly fine gear on iOS but this is a “must have “ for all the things that it does so very well

### 5/5 — Makes beats hard

*2021-02-14, version 2.2.8*

probably work the way you get the money from you and your dad and the bank account to make sure your credit score will work up to the next couple weeks so that will help me with your schedule so that we could have the next one or a few days before I could have them for a while or if

### 5/5 — Perfect.

*2021-01-04, version 2.2.7*

Expertly filled the black hole in iPadOS between drum and daw. Has the perfect routing for the musician that wants full control over arrangements and mixes. Perfect for samples that want rock a groove real fast. I have tried a few and this worth it for the musician.

### 5/5 — Amazing Drum Machine but .... 🧐

*2020-10-31, version 2.2.3*

Fix It Plz !!! 😭

The original patterning was much faster when tapping on songs patterns , this one just lacks the speed , it shows a little outline loading after tapping the pattern. Not instantly like its predecessor.

Im talking about the - Song- Module....

After I create multiple patterns with different drum variations, i go into the - song - module to generate a drum loop for export. For some unknown reason it lingers before playing the selected song pattern, is not instantly like the original patterning.

A total train wreck !!! 😔i have to fix it in my DAW after exporting the loops , i never have to do such thing with the original patterning .

Can someone explain how to fix it ... thanks 🙏

**Developer response:** The setting you want to change is called Pattern Launch Quantize, in the clock menu on the File screen. Set that to “off.” By default it is set to wait til the beginning of the next measure to switch patterns in Patterning 2. Hope that helps!

### 5/5 — Nothing really compares to this drum programmer

*2020-09-26, version 2.2.3*

In my 20 years of sound design and music production, I have never come across anything as intuitive, innovative and inspiring as the patterning project. Don’t sleep, pick this up now.

### 5/5 — Garbage

*2020-06-02, version 2.2.3*

Tell me why you can’t do the most basic of functions....
Sample from multiple samples??
Oh I know cause this cause this dude doesn’t know how to make an app. Go to school and learn something about programming before trying to play with the big boy.
Your company is lame!

### 5/5 — One of the best

*2020-03-16, version 2.2.2*

Sequel to the best drum app almost ever. Best sequencer for poly and cross rhythm, totally amazing circular sequencer. Limited by being only 8 channel super simple sampler

### 4/5 — Awesome Drum App! I have some requests...

*2020-02-07, version 2.2.1*

Olympia Noise Co, Patterning 2 is simply amazing and worth 5 Stars if you can give us the below features. Please give us:

1. MIDI Export all patterns as an Abelton Live Drum Rack Format and/or as individual tracks. I would love to be able to not worry about what drum samples I am using and export out the MIDI from Patterning 2 into an Abelton Live Drum Rack or into another iOS app.

2. iPhone iOS app version. I don’t always have my iPad with me, but I always have my iPhone.

3. AUv3 Compatibility.

Keep up the good work with this app. Definitely has been allowing me to create great drum parts on the go.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2020-01-11, version 2.2.1*

❤️❤️🔥🔥

### 5/5 — Bravo! This is the best drum machine / sequencer app ever.

*2019-12-01, version 2.2.1*

I can’t even describe how much I love this clever app. Some other apps are good but rarely do they actually fit the creative music making process. This app is extremely intuitive (perhaps with the exception of the “song” section), flexible and musical. The spinning pattern is a great idea, it makes visualizing and understanding the rhythm so much easier. The user created drum kits sound great and are very diverse. Patterning is one of those apps you hope never goes away. Bravo!

Great update with the “pages” feature. At first I was worried that it meant that you can no longer have patterns with more than 16 steps displayed on one circle/page, but the implementation of the “pages” feature is brilliant and allows customization. I thought it was impossible to improve this app but the developer managed to do so.

### 5/5 — We’re still having fun,

*2019-10-30, version 2.1.8*

...and you’re still the one. - AT

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Needs update

*2020-05-30, version 2.2.3*

Needs update and more features.

### 2/5 — Nope

*2022-02-06, version 2.2.9*

I thought based on reviews this would be a good purchase for me, but now I’d rather have kept my money. Currently trying to organize a simple A-B song pattern and it seems to randomize when it chooses to play the notes I plugged in on Pattern B (and sometimes A). It’s like the app is losing the beat?
I’m finding Pattern 2 is a bit confusing. Taking into consideration that I may not be operating some features of the app correctly, I still don’t think it should be this difficult. Pattern 2 is to frustrating and to time consuming for making ideas come to life.
I’m a drummer not a programmer… in all fairness this might be a great app for others. It would be nice if there was a way a person could try it out BEFORE coughing up 20 bucks.

### 2/5 — Great app...crashes on export.

*2019-02-04, version 2.1*

First off, I love this app and would be happy to revise my score. However, I have encountered a fatal flaw, a critical bug which affects the utility of this app. The export feature crashes when using Ableton Live export to export individual tracks. Minor as it may seem, it really limits the utility of this app and how much it can be used in a practical sense.

### 2/5 — Good, but

*2018-09-21, version 2.0.7*

It’s creative, but this app lacks data hierarchy structure to organize samples within the library. Should just be able to import folders. This is annoying because I have a lot of sample libraries which I’m not going to spend hours trying to organize them again for this one app. In that way I’m disappointed that I’m not getting as much out of it as I would like. Minus 1 star for price gouging those who had P1 but were offered no upgrade, additionally the sync on P1 stopped working for me when P2 came out.

**Developer response:** Hey! There are some new features regarding folder organization and import in Patterning since you left this review. You can now auto import into the current folder, and also select entire folders when importing samples. Should help! Not sure what you experiencing with P1 sync, nothing changed there? Feel free to email support@olympianoiseco.com and I can help out.

### 3/5 — Nearly ANAZING

*2022-04-01, version 2.2.10*

The fastest, most intuitive way to create beats but we need AUV3 support

### 3/5 — Nice but needs an auv3 update

*2021-09-07, version 2.2.9*

This app is fantastic for creating beats and pulling kits from a community of users. Sadly, it’s showing it’s age and desperately needs an update to stay relevant. The midi settings page is a mess and the lack of auv3 support makes this app tough to continue using. Hoping the devs see it the same way so the community of users can keep growing.

### 3/5 — What am I doing wrong?

*2020-02-19, version 2.2.1*

I can't get exported stereo patterns in tempo in either Pattern or Patterning 2. Otherwise than that this program is very good.

### 3/5 — Can’t use it. Crashes when I hit play.

*2019-10-04, version 2.1.8*

Can’t use the software. I open it, make a beat, heat play and it crashes. Very unstable. I want to like it, so I will give it 3 stars. Version 1 just works.

### 3/5 — Almost amazing!

*2019-09-14, version 2.1.5*

This app is seriously, mostly great. The layout is really interesting, it is very flexible, and you can do a lot with it, in terms of shaping sounds, and weird time signatures... BUT... it has crashed enough, that I can’t trust that I’d be able to use it in a live setting(It’s definitely not the IPad). That is incredibly disheartening, and relegates it to just a fun thing to mess around at home with. Be warned!

### 3/5 — Good stand-alone app.

*2019-04-18, version 2.1*

Good as a stand-alone app but lack of AUV3 really hinders it’s usability. Mostly just sits in my unused app folder.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Worth living in the 21st Century

*2023-09-19*

I swear the developers of this app created something so awesomely sophisticated and beautiful that I don’t know where to begin. I’m a bit fan of loops and randomness and polyrhythms and automation and they’ve created such a perfectly designed environment for creativity and play and invention that I could kiss their feet. It’s deep and approachable and the visual design is so appealing. The cloud kit idea is so cool and wonderful. The flexibility and immediacy of access is I think unparalleled. I love working with Patterning 2 and since the first iteration of this stellar app that brings the concept of drum machine into orbit and beyond.

### 5/5 — Easiest, most organic beat-maker

*2023-06-25*

I've tried tons of drum machines on the iPad, looking for one that made it easiest to create new beats and capture ideas. I keep coming back to this one!

The circular interface is creative, and as easy as a grid to use. But I can change subdivisions and offset the timing of individual instruments easily, which lends itself to getting a more in-the-pocket feel and adding polyrhythms.

Lastly, there's a huge selection of downloadable kits ranging from electronic and acoustic drums to traditional instruments of many kinds to provide inspiration. Love it!

### 5/5 — The best drum machine

*2023-01-29, version 2.2.17*

One of the best drum machines out there for an app

### 5/5 — Easy to Populate Ableton Session View

*2023-01-02, version 2.2.16*

If you finish your productions in Ableton Live and like to use Ableton Session View during the songwriting phase, Patterning is an easy and intuitive way to quickly create a beat, then use that beat in Patterning to populate the foundational tracks and clips (including MIDI clips) in Ableton Session View by exporting the Patterning project to a Live Set.

### 5/5 — This is how I think of music

*2022-12-24, version 2.2.16*

Especially for drums, the circle makes sense in my brain. I pop out beats and loops so fast in this app, and they have more soul than linear programming.

So simple to use, but so much under the hood including; probability, timeline shift, a ton of free kits and ability to dd your own sounds.

Can’t wait for AUV3 to come!

### 5/5 — This app is a gem

*2022-12-02, version 2.2.16*

I’ve gone through a lot of software, hardware groove boxes and drum machines over many years and this one is so good. Great for subtle variations to spice things up, to full kits in the available sound packs.

### 5/5 — Instantly Hooked

*2022-10-08, version 2.2.15*

As a new iPad music creator I didn’t know of this till today. Downloaded it and some very cool kits, made 3 patterns with variations, loaded them easily into a 4 minute song…all by intuition and common sense, no how to vids needed.
Exported to AudioShare and sounds fantastic, ready for daw work and flame. Er…uh…fame.
All within 2 hours of first download. This app lives up to its promise, glad to be aboard!

### 5/5 — Doesn’t Fit New iPad Mini

*2022-08-23, version 2.2.15*

App needs to be updated to fit the new iPad mini. UI is cut off

Edit: fixed by dev, thank you

### 5/5 — My 1 for years

*2022-06-20, version 2.2.10*

… and about to become my sequencing choice for a hybrid modular setup. One feature request if possible-allow arbitrary editing of midi ‘learned’ control note assignments for pattern changes. Currently (I think) midi learning the note is the only way.
This is fine if one wants to set up patterns before a jam, but if eg you wanted to duplicate a pattern to develop it while jamming, you’d have to set up a scenario where the pattern change note could be received. If one was able to just write it in that would give more flexibility: I could duplicate a running pattern, make my edits, then assign a pattern change control note to it by typing it in, then switch to the new pattern when I’m ready to.

**Developer response:** Hey - I’m curious to hear more about your feature request — reach out via email or instagram so we can chat about it.

### 5/5 — Dope dope dope give the people hope

*2021-09-06, version 2.2.9*

This app is intuitive, fun, and worth so much more than the asking price. I use it in my live setup, in the studio, and while I'm taking a dump. It's perfect for every occasion.
