## What is PauseMate?

Your phone isn't the problem. The compulsive reach is.

PauseMate doesn't block your apps. It makes you breathe before you open them. A pause that gets harder the more compulsively you reach — then resets every hour. Gentle guidance, not punishment.

ESCALATING FRICTION — SMARTER THAN A BLOCK
Most app blockers treat every open the same. PauseMate adapts:

• First open: A quick breathing pause
• Second open (same hour): A guided reflection
• Third+ opens: A timed delay that increases
• After 60 minutes, friction resets — every hour is a fresh start

Casual use stays easy. Compulsive re-opening gets progressively harder. No other app does this.

FOCUS SESSIONS — HARDWARE-ENFORCED DEEP WORK
Start a Focus Session and selected apps become completely unavailable. Not honor-system unavailable — FamilyControls-enforced unavailable. No "just this once" button. No workaround.

• Quick Focus: 25, 50, or 90-minute sessions
• Scheduled Focus: Recurring blocks for work hours, bedtime, study time
• Early exit requires typing "END" — deliberate friction by design

INTENT-BASED UNLOCK
After completing a nudge, you choose how long you need: 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes. PauseMate remembers what you chose last time — so you can see the gap between what you request and what you actually use.

WEEKLY ATTENTION AUDIT
Every Sunday evening, one notification: "Your weekly reflection is ready."

• Total pauses, completions, and bypasses
• Your most-bypassed app and the reason (boredom? habit? necessity?)
• One specific, actionable suggestion

No data science jargon. One insight. One action.

MINDFULNESS STREAKS
Every completed nudge counts toward your streak:

• 7 days: "One week of mindfulness."
• 30 days: "A full month. This is who you are now."
• 90 days: "90 days of choosing presence over impulse."

Your streak celebrates effort, not perfection.

100% ON-DEVICE
All your data stays on your phone. No account. No server. No data collection. Nothing leaves your device.

FREE FOREVER
• Unlimited shield rules
• Escalating friction
• Quick focus sessions
• Mindfulness streaks
• Weekly audit
• Intent-based unlock

Premium unlocks scheduled focus sessions, extended history, and advanced pattern analysis.

PauseMate sits between apps that are too gentle — a quick pause you dismiss in 1 second — and apps that are too harsh — permanent blocks you disable after a day. It meets you where you are.

Your attention. Your rules. Your progress.

### 4/5 — Helpful Bit of Digital Friction

*2026-06-06*

Provides an easy to setup and highly granular control structure over app access with a history function to track bypasses and trends. Makes for an excellent companion to the native Screen Time functionality due to being able to set pauses on app opens or scheduled lockouts because it’s just enough friction to help stop binging on apps you want on your phone without using a physical deactivation device or relying on the supremely easy to ignore parental controls/time limits on your device. Plus, you can still get into the app you want to launch once completing the pause if you have a real need to. And when you do that, it gives a time limit before the app will be locked again.

Hope to see more pauses added in future, and maybe a 3 minute usage time to slot between the 1 minute and 5 minute. I’d love to see the free version get maybe 1 schedule unlocked, though I get that that very desirability is while it’s behind the subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.2 — 2026-07-17

Scheduled Focus, now automatic.
Your focus schedules now start on their own at the set time — even when PauseMate is closed and your phone is locked. When a session begins, distracting apps are locked behind a calm "Focus Mode" screen until it ends. Set it once and let it run.

A warmer look.
Refreshed visuals throughout for a calmer, more focused feel.

Smoother and more reliable.
Behind-the-scenes fixes so focus sessions start on time and stay in sync.

Thanks for using PauseMate. Got feedback? We'd love to hear it.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-06-24

Every interaction now feels more intentional. Stats roll smoothly so your progress feels alive, not static. The Soft Iris breathes with you during interventions, warming as you inhale, settling as you exhale. When you hit a streak milestone, the app celebrates with you proportionally to how far you've come. Your weekly audit reveals your story one stat at a time, turning a check-in into a moment of reflection. And every tap across the app now responds, nothing goes unacknowledged.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-06-17

Calendar-Powered Focus
Your calendar now drives your focus automatically:

• Calendar Focus Sessions: auto-block distracting apps during events matching your keywords like "Deep Work" or "Focus". Set up in Focus > Calendar.
• Post-meeting breathing: a gentle reminder after meetings end, right when the scroll impulse is strongest.
• Tasks on Shield: see your pending Reminders when a shield appears. Redirect the urge to scroll into something useful.
• Meeting Impact: your Weekly Audit now shows how nudge bypasses correlate with your calendar.

OLED Dark Theme
True black for OLED displays. Saves battery, easy on the eyes at night. Settings > Appearance > OLED.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-06-12

Smoother onboarding, fewer interruptions before your first breath. Plus reliability improvements and better insights into how you use PauseMate so we can keep making it better.
