It's Smart and simple. Its just perfect. You should do a NightClubPayback, each friend invites other friend a drink and then you can know how much they own each other!

One of the few apps I use frequently. We have a number of shared expenses with friends and this does a great job keeping track and minimizing the number of payback transactions.

This excellent app is exactly what you need for shared expenses in a weekend, trip with friends or colleagues. 
You can exclude certain people for a particular expense, have expenses in different currencies, etc. Everything is very simple and easy to use. 
Apparently, problems reported in other reviews are fixed now (manually adding members that are not in your contacts).

Really great little app. It has a slightly clunky interface to add expenses (it's quite easy to assign the expense to the wrong person) but it's very clear and lets you email the summary along with an attached file of expenses. I've not checked out the paid apps that do similar because I need something like this so rarely, but compared with a similar free app it's far superior. Thank you Andrew Cunningham!

Just used it for a trip to Europe, so I loved the currency option (just need to remember to get online to have the currency conversion updated -- or you can manually enter it, especially when you start using a new currency).  I also really liked that when you email the summary, you get an attachment with all the expenses listed.

This is a very solid app that really fits the bill of sorting out who owes who what after a trip, or project where multiple people have contributed. While it may not have every possible feature imaginable, for a free app, it is certainly worthy of high praise.

My girlfriend and I used this app on a road trip this summer. It was a breeze to just dump all expenses into Payback and not have to worry about who was paying for what and when.

This is a nice little app.. . And there is one improvement I would love it to have! 
Please can you enable it to pick up the tab for a partner for child? I used it for the first time last week and we realised that we couldn't rely on it totally as one person in our party was picking up the tab for another person's lunch on a day. This app would be absolutely perfect if this option were included. If they were picking up their tab for the whole trip it could have worked as it would have been 2 shares of the whole bill. I'm happy to talk this trough more if you'd like. And I would have paid 59p for this app too!

User interface is awful, way to many taps to get hardly anything back from the device.

This review is for the developer... you have a good idea, but the interactions you put the user through are painful.
Never leave the user with a blank screen... the first screen should be a new trip! (shouldn't have to hit edit or add)
I like that your using the address book... (again shouldn't have to hit edit or add) also seems strange that I would have to add myself to get paid also. Your title shouldn't be new trip (it should be greyed out like with description)
( I dont want to delete this everytime I have a new trip)
On to expenses... once again the screen is blank I have to hit edit... Im not editing anything, Im adding something, but how? (you have to hit edit) and then I have to click add? Yikes this is a horrible experience. 
Description... OK you enter food, enter an amount...friend paying for expense its me! how do I get my name into this? I cant choose me!
I like the checkmark who is sharing the expense.
Once your done... there is no overview of all this you have to dig into each trip to find out who what where and how.

I suggest that you think this one through again. its a good idea but poor execution.

Then here is the big one... Once the user has entered in all this information this application doesnt help anyone get paid, doesn't help anyone get notified, or tell the user to contact anyone or call or email anyone... You need follow through!

Overall it's a great app but few of the issues with it were
1) no option to delete a trip info
2) better format to display data in email(something in tabular form rather than plain text)

That being said O will still recommend it

The concept is good. But the User interface design is pretty bad. Where is the delete button for people in lists or for the whole list itself??! People outside of the contact list cannot be added. 
If these are improved, it would be a good app.

I have used it previously, and it saves a great deal of time and effort. I agree with other reviewers that it can make do with fewer clicks, but it works for me. Thanks, Andrew, BUT..
I just returned from a trip, and I have about 100 expenses already entered. The app crashes when I click on 'send email'. I am in a great deal of trouble if this does not work - i will have to manually copy all the data, a task I do not relish. Please, please, release a fix for this

This app is great for all the hassle it removes from having to coordinate expenses when out with a group of friends. It is simple and easy to keep track of expenses. It has 2 features that are really missing for it to be a 4 or 5 star app though.

This portion of the review is for Andrew

Andrew, the 2 features I believe would be simple to implement. The first one is to show expenses by date when looking at the trip expenses. You already collect the date the expense happened, showing it and subtotaling the expenses by date would be a very useful feature. Secondly, you really need to implement a free text Note feature. It would be very useful to have a place to put for example what restaurant we had lunch at or what city the gas was filled up in. Showing the Notes after each expense would be really handy.

Lastly, a Trip Report would be very handy. A quick preview of all totals for the trip and per head expense prior to going into the Payback piece would come in handy.

I really appreciate the effort here. I coordinate a lot of camping trips and Golf trips and this is exactly what I was looking for. A couple of these features would make this an awesome application.

I love this app, I live in a house and split bills this makes it simple and does the work for me. 

I would love even more if it had a statistics tab. How much was spent for your category for month. I know it wasnt originally meant for that but would work well.

This free app offers the features and the simplicity I would ask for. Unfortunately, different currencies are not accounted for in the summation - that's a bug! Also, the keypad lacks a decimal point. And it is very tedious to have to scroll through the whole list of currencies each time you make a new entry. It should be easy to iron these things out.

For years I’ve gotten together with a set of college friends. We take trips together and have always labored over how to settle up accurately. This app is really wonderful. It makes everything so painless. It takes into account every possible variation no matter who pays what, when they pay, which subset of people pay participate in a particular activity, just everything. At the end of the trip you push one button to calculate who owes what to whole and one button to send everyone what they owe.

I’ve used this app to share expenses with family members for many years and it works perfectly. You can log prepayments to the “trip fund” and all the details about expenses, like who used (and how much), who paid and when. In the end, the app tells you who owes how much to the others. Pretty simple and powerful

Very easy to use, this app is simply AMAZING. It made a recent trip with friends very easy to handle payments. No more over or under payments. Very easy to use, and the option to use another currency was very useful indeed. I would def recommend it to anyone travelling with friends.

Came in useful when traveling around Europe and tracking expenses in different currencies as well as at home for monthly bills.  Also really good for a weekend with friends so everyone gets paid back.  Easy to use.

I frequently travel with friends.  Instead of constantly splitting bills in the moment, now we can just take turns paying and track the expenses here.  It can allow for couples and individuals, expenses that are only applicable to part of the group, and most anything you need.  At the end of the trip, just hit Pay Back and you will get a list of who owes what to whom, in net.  So simple! You could also use this for other thins besides traveling, such as event planning.  Best simple app!
