### 1/5 — Antiquated, typical government process

*2022-09-23, version 1.2103.2*

This feedback must be filed with the rest of Service-members “Lessons Learned” pile that get actioned someday/maybe pile.

### 1/5 — Paid my debt balance still had it taken out

*2022-09-14, version 1.2103.2*

So I paid off the remainder of my tax deferment balance only to have it still taking out of my LES and then my tax payment refunded. Okay???

### 1/5 — Payment option (PayPal) always broke

*2022-09-13, version 1.2103.2*

They offer to let me pay via PayPal, but the connection is never “secure” so it won’t let me connect and pay. There needs to be an option to pay via credit card, so my debt can be paid and my benefits restored in a timely manner. Not my fault DFAS messed up.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2022-08-31, version 1.2103.2*

Get ready to enter all your information multiple times and prepare to never get any information from this app

### 1/5 — Absolute Garbage

*2022-07-31, version 1.2103.2*

Not allowing your former service members to opt out of 2021’s tax deferment. GARBAGE.

Having your former service members use an app that fails to process forcefully incurred debts. GARBAGE.

Utilizing horribly designed apps and websites to gather payments. GARBAGE.

Failing to provide functional way of informing your service members what the current remaining forced indebtedness amount is… GARBAGE.

Starting to see the pattern here? ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.

### 3/5 — Missing “remaining debt balance”

*2022-07-27*

The app has one job. Collecting money you owe the government. Having my credit threatened over a mistake they made is frustrating, but I had no trouble making a payment with my debit card. The problems I have now are:

1. There’s no automatic recurring payment option - I guess I have to login and do this every month…

2. App doesn’t show the remaining debt balance - so I guess I’m supposed to keep a ledger and just know exactly when it’s time to stop paying them. It would be nice if the app would just say how much I still owe. I have a feeling they won’t be nearly as prompt in paying me back if I overpay them…

### 1/5 — Garnished my wages…

*2022-07-26, version 1.2103.2*

Smfh. $750 out of my paycheck that puts me behind.. smfh

### 1/5 — F Off

*2022-07-23, version 1.2103.2*

Here is this app and the deferred SS payments summarized: bull crap. Now I have to tax myself by using a “secure” phone app. The federal government is an inept, bloated, embarrassment of a failure. So glad I’m forced to pay for a social welfare program that’s evaporating faster than Lake Tahoe.

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2022-07-14, version 1.2103.2*

It’s nice that there is an app to ease the governments ability to take money from us yet I've still not received my tax return from 2 years ago. The app is buggy and wouldn’t let me use paypal.

### 1/5 — Terrible god awful app

*2022-07-12, version 1.2103.2*

Error after error for no reason. Beyond pathetic government app. Funny how all government softwares are beyond terrible.

### 1/5 — App is trash just like our government

*2022-05-27*

Using this app is the most trash thing I’ve ever seen. Only option to pay. I got 2 different bills in the mail for 2 different amounts. It would be nice to know which I had to pay and what they’re for. This app gives no info at all, they only want money.

### 1/5 — Just kys

*2022-05-27, version 1.2103.2*

Hope everyone in the service falls in a deep depression and kt

### 1/5 — Doesn’t function

*2022-05-24, version 1.2103.2*

This app is full of bugs, it should be illegal to force you to use this app to pay debts. I feel like some contractor somewhere is making millions on this app so DFAS has to force you to use it to rationalize its cost.

### 1/5 — Thanks for taking my money

*2022-05-22*

I don’t think I have to state just how stupid it is that we didn’t get an option to opt out of the social security tax deferment.

What an absolute joke. Being on this app makes me seethe to my core. I’m glad I got out of the service. It’s a far cry from what it once was. It’s just a joke now just like this app. Too bad I can’t leave zero stars because I definitely would. It seems that any software that the government puts out is just 100% garbage. Never works, always has bugs and just all around is extremely unfriendly to use.

I feel bad for some of the people who get debt thrown on them for no reason and have their credit like I did because of the government. Forcing your servicemen and women into debt is a GREAT way to get them to try and recruit others much less reenlist.

I sincerely hope somebody sees this and decides to get out while they still can. Stay strong everyone.

### 1/5 — Typical USG app

*2022-05-10, version 1.2103.2*

Absolutely the worst! Don’t waste your time.

### 1/5 — DFAS

*2022-04-29*

Coming after me for 4.5 dollars in a multi billion dollar budget. Like really? My 5 dollars is what’s going to keep the military afloat? And it wasn’t even my mistake? If you have to use this app I hope it makes you realize you did the right thing by getting out. The military only cares about you when it’s convenient or it makes them look good. Eat the apple.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worst payment app

*2024-09-14*

The app doesn’t give you the remaining balance for the debt you owe. You have to wait until they send you an updated bill through the mail. You can’t save your payment information so you have to enter it manually everytime you make a payment. It’s a very frustrating payment experience.

### 1/5 — Would give zero stars

*2024-05-22*

I only paid once with the app and it deducted the same ammount twice from my account. I only see one payment in the app payment history.I called DFAS and they could not find anyone who could answer me my question if the patment was made through the app. So, if the app is accepting payments and accessing/provessing banking information, there should be someone who can track it or at least tell me why it happened. I was redirected to multiple departments and all I heard was "it is a third party app and we are not responsible". So, who is reponsible? And, it is also impossible to report the app quality. This feature is blocked for this app in app store. I might be reporting it as a scam

### 1/5 — Ruining veterans trust in the country they once served

*2023-08-10*

After calling for what specific bonus I had that needed payed back and getting no information stating that I need to call my prior base for that reason because the woman on the phone was even confused by what I was asking and my prior base not having answers only referring me back to DFAS I was incredibly frustrated asking my prior service family members about what was going on and being advised not to pay my debt until I knew what it was for and why after months of searching and calling veteran affairs I got a letter saying my wages would be garnished by a private debt collector panicking I called veterans affairs within a week or two got a notice saying the veteran affairs had no information or record of debt and to call DFAS again I called them and this time they assured me the debt is authentic and that I’d need to go through further channels and red tape to find out what specific bonus they gave me that was un earned I’ve given up hope I’m struggling to pay bills as it is with this economy I have no future I have no hope because of these people. I have nothing

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2023-05-04*

If you gave three toddlers a gallon of espresso, and an etch-a-sketch, they could produce not only a more functional app, but a more functional organization. When they’re not busy stealing money from veterans and service members, DFAS is taking down their website presumably to make it worse. If I could give negative stars, I would. May god have mercy on your soul.

### 1/5 — Rigid and not user-friendly

*2023-04-22*

As with any government IT, it is so security-focused that it is impractical. It will not work unless your iphone IOS has the most current version. And I don’t mean the newest version last week. Every month I log in to payDFAS, and it won’t work because I have to update my IOS. This is the only app that does this in my experience.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t even work

*2023-03-29*

Downloaded the app to “make a payment 24/7, 365 days a year with email confirmation of payment. CONVENIENT, SIMPLE AND SECURE!”

App doesn’t even work. Says the OS needs to be updated but someone who likely doesn’t care about their job. DFAS website is down too so not only can I not see my balance, I can’t even submit payment. Trash app. Trash website. Trash system.

### 1/5 — Bugged?

*2023-03-23*

iPhone 12 ProMax that’s current on all updates. February made payment through the app. Now states OS no longer supported? Website isn’t acting right either. Can’t make payments over the phone either. Shouldn’t be this hard to make a payment. If you want what you’re owed, then fix your options Dfas!!!

### 1/5 — Fraud, Waste, Abuse

*2023-02-28, version 1.2103.2*

Tell me how it’s possible to receive a final notice of a debt I didn’t know I had from 3 years ago and not receive any other notice?! What if I had a different address and this affected my credit. Communication from dfas is piss poor. Snail mail is outdated…

### 1/5 — Useless

*2023-02-14, version 1.2103.2*

This app is useless. It doesn’t show your debt total. It doesn’t save your bank account info for payments. And I have never been able to link my PayPal account for payments. It also doesn’t allow you to set up recurring payments.

### 1/5 — Nothing works

*2023-01-18, version 1.2103.2*

Nothing about this payment app works. It’s so frustrating. My cards get decline for no reason, the scan option to scan your card does absolutely nothing. What is the point of this app? It cant do the one thing it’s suppose to -process a payment.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple and effective

*2024-05-25*

Civilian apps and civilian websites should take notes from this website. Here is an app that doesnt have ten pop ups asking you to sign up for this and that and some model displaying the latest and greatest whatever. We have become so accustomed to the headaches associated with being online that when it’s not given to us we are like “hey military come on maybe add something more because this app kinda feels like I’m paying money to outerspace. That’s the confidence and reliability of the military that gets taken for granted. Thank you for giving me that warm and fuzzy again by making this app simple. It’s as if the designers where like “those losers don’t deserve any pop ups or any rewards club or even some model who got paid way to much and now is a polygamist wife.”

### 5/5 — Work as expected

*2023-07-02*

I set a reminder. The app reminded me. I paid via the app with no issues. It took me about 1.5 minutes, if that.

### 5/5 — Worked as expected.

*2023-05-11*

App did what it’s meant for.
However, it would be nice to know my remaining balance.

### 5/5 — Fast and easy

*2022-07-22, version 1.2103.2*

Works as advertised. Scanning the QR code was quick and easy. Much better experience than paying through the website. Current rating of 1.8 stars doesn’t reflect the app. Most 1 star reviews complaining about having to pay a debt, not the quality of the app.

### 5/5 — It Actually Worked!

*2022-02-17*

I’m genuinely surprised this app worked as well as it did. Based on the majority of negative reviews I almost passed on this one, but I gave it a shot and glad it worked out. My only concern was not seeing the payment go through for a couple days, but it eventually posted to my bank account. I’d recommend giving it a try, and hopefully it works for you as well.

### 5/5 — It’s been updated

*2021-05-02, version 1.2004.0*

This app is easy to use. Just scan the code and enter the information. I was nervous about the negative reviews, but realized that they are really old. The app has been updated and works fine as of 02May21.

### 5/5 — Quick and Easy

*2021-03-31*

Loved it, quick and easy. No hassle. I believe the app has been updated and that makes it way way way better.

### 5/5 — Worked

*2021-03-11, version 1.2004.0*

Received a demand letter due to incurred cost of my PCS move (DOD Civilian). Downloaded app, scanned QR code, entered debit card info (can’t use credit card). Received payment confirmation. Deleted app.

### 5/5 — Wow- super simple way to pay

*2018-08-21*

The idea is amazing. No need to enter account information. Immediate confirmation of the payment. No need to write a check and mail and wait forever hoping that the check is not lost in transit.

### 4/5 — Simple, but I had a simple issue

*2021-10-01, version 1.2102.0*

I cannot speak to a long drawn out debt that some of the reviewers have. I was overpaid SS when they held that tax back but I was out of the military, so I only owed a small amount. Made a payment from the app using the qr code on my letter, and it was pretty straightforward after that.
