### 5/5 — A Service To The Industry

*2023-09-26*

This piece of programming is a major service to the industry. It’s clearly driven by love because it’s certainly not driven by money. Thank you, David!

### 5/5 — The electronic resource.

*2022-09-17*

I’ve been using pCAM since it was on palm pilot. It is THE cinematography resource, and the standard for which all other similar apps must be judged.

### 5/5 — Essential part of my kit

*2022-09-10*

As a VFX Supervisor and Artist, this app is a necessary part of my kit. I use it for sensor size comparisons, FOV dimensions, and a myriad of other camera and lighting items that are important for the VFX team. If you’re in the industry, you need this app.

### 5/5 — Best Cinematography app

*2021-01-20*

One of the best, most authoritative and original ground breaking Cinematography apps of all time. Designed by a working camera crew member. I believe I’ve used p-cam since the Palm Pilot PDA days.

Thanks!

### 5/5 — Indispensable professional tool

*2020-09-22*

Updated version is well worth it. For every professional, a must have.

### 5/5 — This should be a part of your e-kit

*2020-01-10, version 1.1.8*

pCam Pro has saved my behind on many occasions. I’ve had to figure things out without the benefit of a DP’s advice and guidance and this app came through. Especially the FOV feature. That helped me determine the size of a stage I needed for a job. I cannot recommend this more highly. The cameras are updated constantly. Go to hip and pay for the privilege.

### 5/5 — A Must Have Tool

*2020-01-09*

This app covers so many elements of cinematography and photography. I like that you can tell the app what camera and resolution you are capturing with. Input the variables of what your doing and you get the exact answer for your situation. I am a camera assistant by trade and I use the app at least once a day.

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2020-01-09*

So many great tools. As a VFX Supervisor I’m constantly using it. Triangulation, focal length match, depth of field preview and in a pinch the flat field colour generator as a quick lighting source. Really stable app!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-08-07*

I loved the original p cam, but was bummed that I had to rebuy the new one.
It should have been an update for those that help put this app on the map.

**Developer response:** The pCAM Classic app you are referring to was made in 2009 and updated 58 times over 10 years. There were over a thousand new cameras added for free, and each camera format had to be thoroughly researched, calculated and tested beforehand. Even though the original app still works flawlessly, its legacy code had run its course and could no longer remain on the App Store and be updated. It was written with iOS 2, and too much had changed from then to the current iOS 13 operating system.

pCAM Pro is a separate app with many added features, tools, and its interface completely redesigned for iPhone X, 11 and the iPad.

We thank you for your support and understanding that apps are extremely expensive to develop and maintain, and therefore cannot be given away for free.

### 5/5 — One awesome tool

*2019-07-23*

The goto application for professionals who need the math done for them and to answer the questions that come up time and again on set. First class app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 3/5 — The app should access camera

*2023-11-07*

Great app, BUT it should access camera on iPhone to give the exact POV of the shot, rather than using cartoon cutouts which do not simulate your actual actors.

Can’t say it can’t be done, cause the app “Cadrage” does it and it is rated very high in the App Store. When using your camera, it superimposes the frame (depending on the lens you select) over your camera’s frame.

**Developer response:** pCAM is a highly precise calculator, not a viewfinder app and they shouldn’t be compared. Precise FoV is calculated using exact known distance, exact focal length and exact aspect-ratio pixels. Using the iPhone’s camera would require the user to mount their iPhone, take the photograph, measure the distance, enter the distance, research what focal length their device uses, enter that focal length, then double-check that the camera is cropped to the correct aspect ratio. The illustrations do all of that plus add an extra element for accuracy, the exact height of each illustration is coded in.

### 4/5 — Great App with one huge thing missing

*2022-11-17, version 1.1.31*

Love the app. So many tools to make sure your production looks & feels great.

The only thing that would make the app better from my experience with the app, is when previewing your shot in “Field of View”, the app should access your phone’s camera where the user can see exactly what their shot will look like depending on the camera and lens being used, rather than cartoon cut-outs that include dimensions (because people are different sizes and shapes).

That feature would make this app perfect.

**Developer response:** That would be highly inaccurate because FoV is calculated using exact known distance, exact focal length and exact aspect-ratio pixels.

### 4/5 — Great all around app for cinematographers but

*2020-10-09, version 1.1.12*

It would be awesome if it had a night mode so yoy

### 5/5 — This is an amazing tool

*2026-05-26*

I can’t believe this app doesn’t have a hundred 5 star reviews - so adding my own here. I’ve used this app for probably a decade. It has everything you need as a cinematographer. Great calculators and converters. Very easy to use and very intuitive. If you are serious about cinematography this is the app to get.

### 5/5 — Precise as always

*2026-05-19*

Simply put, the reference book. Clear, accurate and concise. Great implementation of a complex database, thanks for the frequent help in my world.

### 5/5 — It’s the coolest 😎

*2026-01-20*

Most useful app for cinematographers!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2025-11-02*

I have used this app for many years- an indispensable tool!

### 5/5 — Le couteau suisse du DoP

*2025-08-02*

### 5/5 — Number 1 best cinematography tool

*2025-02-01*

Top notch tool. The amount of useful features Is incredible. I can’t believe it’s made by one dude. But he’s the dude.

### 5/5 — You are missing out on an amazing app!

*2024-04-29*

If you have not checked out this awesome app, you are missing an opportunity to solve problems that come up for production. I know this app is unique to the camera dept but I assure you that Production Designers, Producers, Chief Lighting Technicians, Key Grips, Storyboard Artists and anyone involved with pre-viz, can gain very useful info from their “what ifs”. pCam is an essential tool in my e-kit. It has saved me thousands of dollars due to its wealth of data. It enables me to see the future.
You must see for yourself.

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2024-04-28*

Have owned PCam since the start of my focus pulling career. This app has helped me figure out complicated shots to just last night doing car plate shots with 9 cameras on a array, quickly figured out the hyperfocal distance for all. No need to have a camera implement if you know how to actually use the app. Has helped me countless of time in my Local 600 career. Thanks!

### 5/5 — The one and only app for DOPs!

*2024-04-24*

Whether you are a beginning cinematographer or an experienced DOP, this app has it all. Just download it - the price is ridiculously low for the knowledge provided. Do yourself a favor and use this app. Learn with it.

Just as people read the Bible, DOPs read pCAM Pro.

### 5/5 — I am a lowly Producer...

*2023-11-18*

...but I have used this incredibly useful app both on my MacBookPro as well as my iPhone. It's in constant update as new cameras are introduced.
There are times when I need technical backup to explain a potential "watch-out" to a client.
I'm not technical and that's why I use pCAM Pro. It simplifies very technical information. It's worth every penny.
