Want to leave your car in non-toll mode like before? Too bad, you have to remember every time. Forget to turn it on ahead of time? Out of luck, since you can’t interact once the car is moving (even if you aren’t the driver). Need to minimize the app to interact with your phone? It will threaten to charge you for your trip. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. If your car is in motion you can't use the app. Hello, by the definition of a carpool I have more than one person in the car. Why can't one of my passengers turn it on for me? Don't use the Hands Free law as an excuse. Make it like other apps that ask if you are a passenger and if so let them use the app! The “Start Carpool” button can be green but then you click on it and it still says you can’t use the app when in motion. They have made carpooling a pain. I only use the peach pass lane when we travel and we always have 3 or more with us. The voice prompts are awful. If you accidentally touch the screen she yells at you. While I understand the safety aspect, fundamentally if you are using carpool mode there should be PASSENGERS in the car that could use the app allowing the driver to remain hands free. ### 1/5 — Good lord this app is stupid *2025-11-29* I’ve read a bunch of these reviews all complaining that you can’t activate the app while in motion. I’ve read the developer’s defensive responses saying they can’t change it because GA is a hands-free state and you can’t “verify” who in the car is hitting a singular huge button… The simple fact that the point of the app means you have at least 2 passengers makes this argument stupid. I get that you don’t want the legal liability if someone uses this app while driving, but for forks sake, just add a “I’m not the driver” checkbox like a normal app. This is peak “compliance over common sense” behavior. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Providing a "I'm not the driver" check box does not verify that the person selecting that option is, in fact, not the driver. That option will result in an additional safety issue that we do not want our commuters to worry about while in the express lanes. ### 1/5 — Way too easy to mess it up as a user *2025-11-27* I share many of the previously mentioned complaints with battery life and how sensitive the app is to movement for first verification. I have an issue with the button to confirm at the end of a trip. If you accidentally press that you did not have 3+ people, you pay for the trip. This should require multiple confirmation presses, and the button to cancel HOV credit should be smaller and further from the button that gives you the credit (the orange one). **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. The developers have designed the app to use minimal power consumption while in a trip. For saving power, we recommend closing other apps in the background. ### 1/5 — Like everyone says this is a pain *2025-11-13* Georgia may be a hands free state, but only for the driver. Why can t my passenger set the carpool option? Plans change and when I choose to use the lane I don’t always know in advance. Also is privacy not a concern? Why do you need to know my precise location where I start and end. You can track my car in the express lane, why is that not enough. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Additionally, the app requires your precise location to ensure that commuters are using the I-85 Express Lanes and receive free toll benefits. ### 1/5 — Can’t use while the car is in motion 🤯 *2025-09-26* Obviously I can only use it when I have 3+ which means I have two other people that could use the phone while in motion. Am I supposed to pull over on the side of the highway and change the toll mode? Oh, and I have to create another login even though I already have one with Peach Pass. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We recommend verifying your carpool status before beginning your commute, right after buckling your seatbelt. If you complete this process before your trip, you or your passenger should not have to pull over during your commute to start this process. Even with valid plates, the service will fine you unnecessarily and not give any considerations or reimbursements even if the fault is theirs. ### 1/5 — Declare every trip *2025-08-29, version 1.14* Requires a photo of your carpool every trip! ### 1/5 — Impossible *2025-08-28, version 1.14* Update: remember this app is for driving in the HOV lane meaning multiple people in the car, yet you cannot take a single action within the app. Calling it a safety precaution is irrelevant. Everything about this app and company is bogus. Impossible to use due to ridiculous restrictions. ### 1/5 — Make it make sense. *2025-08-28* I guess I’ll continue to come to a stop on the freeway so one of my passengers can complete the 3+ verification. Good luck everybody else. The app developer has responded saying you should start the app just incase you may need to use the lanes. In those cases the app often interrupts my music or audiobook informing me that it is on or telling me to end my ride because I’ve come to a stop. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. You can turn off in-app audibles by going to 'Settings' and toggling 'Voice Prompts' OFF to prevent your music or audiobook from being interrupted while using the app. ### 1/5 — Two apps is a waste of time and resources *2025-08-24* There was nothing wrong with the old method of using the non-toll mode. Adding this app is an inconvenience to the account owner and can pose a safety hazard for everyone driving around if the account owner (or driver) has to pull over to the side of the road to activate. I have to start my drive at home or at my starting point that may be an hour away from the I-85 lanes. Once I finish my drive which is likely 2-3 hours later, I have forgotten the app was even activated. So this is a set it and forget it (but I’m consuming additional data in the process). Please go back to using just one app to declare 3 or more people for the non-toll mode. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Contrary to popular belief, not allowing users to engage with Peach Pass Verify while their vehicle is in motion is a safety precaution. If you plan to travel in the I-85 Express Lanes with 3+ passengers, we encourage you to always open Peach Pass Verify and begin the verification process before beginning your trip. The app will send a reminder to end your trip once your vehicle is no longer in motion. ### 1/5 — The stupidest design and useless app ever! *2025-08-23* If you can catch illegal use of HOV lane through camera, why cannot you catch legal use of HOV and automatically free that ride? Not able to activate the carpool when vehicle is in motion is the most ridiculous function. Like other GPS-activated apps, Peach Pass Verify does not allow the driver or passengers to engage with the app while the vehicle is in motion. This setting is in place out of an abundance of safety and adherence to the Georgia Hands-Free Law. The verification process can only begin and end before the vehicle is in motion. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2025-08-22, version 1.14* App never works. ### 1/5 — Tap to Verify… That I Tapped 'Tap to Verify' *2025-08-15, version 1.14* Peach Pass Verify is a masterclass in solving a problem no one proved existed. If you had real data showing people abused the old carpool setting, use it. You already have cameras and toll records. Cite offenders. Create deterrents. But if you didn’t have the data, then why are you spending my tax dollars making it harder for the people actually doing the right thing? We transport people every time we’re on the road. That’s a carpool. Full stop. Under the old system, that was recognized. Now? I have to open a separate app, select the correct vehicle (hope you remember to switch it, because it defaults to the last one used), press "Start Carpool" before the vehicle is even in gear, and pray I don’t forget to hit "End" when the trip is over. If I don’t follow this ritual perfectly, I get charged. No fix. No appeal. Just a toll and a shrug. And what qualifies a trip as a carpool under this system? You tapped "Verify." That’s it. Congratulations, you’re a carpool because you said so. Same honor system as before - only now with a fragile app, more steps, more chances to screw it up, and zero tolerance for human error. Want to change your route due to traffic? Hope you guessed right before your drive started. You can't retroactively verify. You can't even start the app once you're rolling. This app demands psychic powers and perfect timing, not real-world flexibility. Meanwhile, real issues - like drivers illegally crossing double white lines to jump in or out of the Express Lanes - happen constantly. I've watched police do it. That’s a real problem. But there’s no energy to fix that, just a shiny new button for everyone else to press and hope they did it right. This isn’t enforcement. It’s performance. It punishes the honest, ignores the dishonest, and turns everyday commuting into a game of gotcha. If the goal was to frustrate rule-followers while pretending to crack down on cheaters, mission accomplished. Updated Response to Developer: This app is just Phase One of conditioning commuters for facial recognition. SRTA’s own internal documents—obtained through open records—admit that the current Peach Pass Verify app still runs on the honor system. Tapping “Verify” doesn’t verify anything. GPS merely logs the phone’s location, not who’s in the vehicle. But that’s the point. This is just the setup. SRTA plans to require facial recognition to “visually verify” carpool passengers. That’s not speculation—it’s spelled out in their planning documents. At the same time, they’re spinning an increase in HOV declarations as “proof of widespread cheating.” Never mind that Atlanta traffic worsens every year. Never mind that more commuters are legitimately turning to carpools or finally using the HOV lanes they’ve always qualified for. They won’t admit the app doesn’t verify anything—because it’s not meant to. It’s theater. A soft introduction to real surveillance. And when usage inevitably drops—because many Americans don’t want Big Brother in the back seat—they’ll claim success. They’ll say the drop proves they caught the cheaters. ### 1/5 — They keep deleting my review *2025-08-02* As everyone can tell, this is a total money grab by whoever runs the express lanes. Beyond their website being awful, there wasn’t anything wrong with the old method of putting a car in permanent car pool mode. How is me telling you on a website or me telling in an app, when both are self verification, functionally, any different? Oh wait, they aren’t. The fact I have to do this for each drive is insane. The excuse about GA being hands free is ridiculous. No one is going to crash pressing two buttons. People are going to crash stopping in the middle or side of the road to activate car pool mode. At minimum it should work with CarPlay and I should be able to hit the verify option from the dash of my car. I will keep voicing my opinion of this stupid app no matter how many times you take my reviews down. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. If you plan to travel with 3+ passengers, including the driver, on I-85, you should verify the occupancy status in the app in case you decide to utilize the express lanes. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Waste of an app. Prevents most actions. *2026-06-13* This app is supposed to what you use to turn off your charges when you are in one of your cars when carpooling /have more than 2 passengers. However, because it assumes the driver is making the request.. you can’t really ever use it as even as PASSENGER. This basically makes it useless to carpoolers unless the car owner remembers to turn on feature before ever moving their car. It’s is completely useless to me/my family who often drive into the city together because no passenger can turn on carpooling. HUGE functional gap and HORRIBLE user experience. But I see that it got 4 stars, so then maybe it’s just me. So I scrolled through every…single…review. I see a ton of reviews, almost all of which are 1 star. A couple are 2 star. Nothing higher. You should be able to start carpool while the vehicle is in motion by allowing a PASSENGER to do it. I’m currently writing this review as a passenger! So dumb. I’ve read the responses about Georgia being a hand free state but not every person in the car has to be hands free! As someone who builds apps there is no reason to have a 15 minute wait time. There are 10 ways to do it without that. Also why can’t I trigger carpool while moving. Since the system cannot identify who is making changes while the car is moving, the vehicle needs to be stopped before beginning the carpool. ### 2/5 — Flawed Execution *2025-05-31, version 1.11* The fact I need two apps to manage one product is unnecessary. I do however, appreciate the simplicity of this application since I am required to have it utilize the HOV feature. However, being forced to be stationary to update to carpool is beyond frustrating. If we are traveling from several hours away and have no intention of stopping prior to accessing HOV. I have to remember to open this and select carpooling. Then keep the app running in the background through the entirety of my trip just to revalidate at the end of my trip, that I didn’t lose any passengers on the interstate. We are a family. It hectic enough getting out the door on time. And, if we are lucky to catch a red light I can switch it on. Otherwise. Bloody mess. All features for families to use this. The app is severely flawed. Don’t require revalidation at the end or if you want to do that, do not require me to run it in the background, thus draining my battery. ### 2/5 — Not well thought out *2024-12-30* The designers are obviously not users of their app. As others mention, you cannot start the carpool trip while in motion. But worse, you must periodically verify that you are still on your trip and cannot verify while in motion. Huh!?? So, we leave North GA and before we are entering the express lanes south of Atlanta the App is requiring re-verification. Are we supposed to pull over to re-verify? The Peach Pass Verify app only requires that users verify their carpool at the start of their trip, and reverify at the end. The app may remind you to reverify once you have left the I-85 express lanes, but you only need to do so once you have stopped at your final destination. The Peach Pass Verify app is only for commuters using the I-85 Express Lanes. Despite their carpool status, commuters using the I-75 Northwest Corridor and South Metro Express lanes will be required to pay the toll. ### 2/5 — Too many restrictions *2024-12-25* Is incredibly annoying that you can’t open the app while the car is moving, even if you are a passenger wanting to set the app for carpool use. You’re in a carpool, right? There’s at least three people in the car, right? You literally have to stop to turn on the carpool function.
