Both me and my toddler find ourselves swiping photos away when we try to swipe left and right between photos. My phone also seems to get hot when using the app — maybe it’s related to the loading the live previews?

I’d love an option for a more traditional grid as the photo cropping is odd. And a black background when viewing photos.

Good idea for an app that we use frequently. Does exactly what it says it does which is provide a way to see photos and videos without providing any ability to destroy to create new. We use it for our toddler.

It works great and that's the important thing. However, the one annoying thing that frustrates kids is when they are swiping in the photo view and go back to gallery view, it goes back to the original position and not on the last photo viewed.

It’s great whenever I want to share a small subset of the photos on my phone. Maybe it’s my home renovation photos to co-workers or my last vacation with my family. I removes any concern about them seeing something I’d rather they don’t or is just off topic.

I use it to let my kids brows through albums without being able to delete photos. 

Also I’ve used it as work to show photos to colleagues without them being able to scroll too far by accident. Such a great UI.

No matter if your kid is 3 or 13 you probably don’t want them having write access to your photos (i.e. the Photos app). But kids of all ages always want to look through your photos. Until this app I’ve simply said no! Now I can happily hand them my $1,200 phone with no worries ...

No, but seriously, this is amazing piece of mind (with an old device).

The cropping on thumbnail seems strange, the thumbnails look odd and not anything like the actual photos. It seems worse on live photos; actually maybe it is only a live photo issue but since most photos I take on my iPhone and most are by default Live photos, most of my photos look really weirdly cropped in the thumbnail view.

The other thing that would be nice if we could select a person as an “album.” I don’t know if this is a limitation of the photo library API, but in Photos I can pick a name from face identification like of my wife or daughter. I would love to be able to just pick my daughters name and let her look at her own pictures.

It’s a great app idea and a lot of the details are thoughtfully executed (like the guided access integration). The one major shortcoming is that the thumbnail view usually zooms in way too close to the center of an image, so you might have no idea what the actual image is about when browsing at the thumbnail level. This is frustrating enough that I don’t really use the app, despite unlocking the full version.

My family photo/video album is my iCloud Photo Library. Everything is in there, ever since the kids were born. So, when the kids ask to look at family photos, I hand them the iPad. 

And, even though I turn on Guided Access each time I hand the iPad to them, it’s still nerve wracking for me to know they could be accidentally deleting swaths of precious photos and videos. Yikes!

So, Peek-a-View is exactly what I needed. It’s such a perfect way to let my kids get a view-only experience of the photos and videos they love. My nervousness about inadvertently deleted photos is gone! Absolutely worth the $5 purchase price. 

Here’s a feature request: my kids are 5 and 8 years old and I understand out to stop and start video playback. Please allow me a way to tell Peek-a-View not to loop the video playback. My kiddos know how to start the video playing again if they want to see it a second (or third, or tenth) time.

Handing over your phone to a colleague, friend or family member is so common that this feature should be native to the Photos app.  Our iPhones are very personal and private, but that shouldn’t prevent their ability to be great presentation tools. Very clever to have recognized this need. Great job!

You can pinch to zoom but you can’t choose where it zooms, neither can you pan once zoomed. It always zooms into the left side of the photo. So unless you happen to want to zoom into that part of the photo you will feel frustrated. If this is fixed I will update my review and actually I would strongly consider purchasing the app.

It’s solving a problem no one has. 

Use albums and you can achieve the same thing and any deletions are available to undelete using iCloud etc.

This functionality is built in to your iPhone’s photo app. Just create a new folder for photos you want people to swipe through. 

This is borderline fraudulent; why would Apple allow an app that tries to cajole iPhone users — especially, evidently, elderly ones — into paying extra for simple functionality that’s included in its products?

Who decided it was a good idea to make tapping the UX affordable to mute videos on an app marketed for toddlers.

Also audio playing for previous, next video is infuriating and led the app to be banned from use in our house.

This app allows me to hand my chosen phone to a stranger, so they can see photos while holding my phone. You might think of that as an odd thing to do, but I live in a unique place, and at gatherings, people want to see pictures. I want to share SOME photos, and I don’t feel like sitting next to someone and holding my phone is necessary, or I wouldn’t be sharing in the first place, but it’s easy to end up in the wrong place with a fat thumb. I have even chosen the wrong album to share. I only want to share specific photos, and this app solves the problem. I set up Guided Access to further manage it, too. What a help that is!  Guided Access alone in iPhones doesn’t protect photos, nor does it keep a person out of other albums. This app does. I’d give it more stars, if I could!!!

This has been such a helpful app for our disabled daughter who loves watching videos of her adventures in life. Peek-a-view keeps her locked into the app and ensures she can’t delete or edit the videos. I wish this was around when all my kids were little as it would have been such an easy way to let them explore photos and videos safely.

2. Couldn’t use the feature to pick a different album than Recent for years
3. Now it started working

Casey was very kind and apologetic when I reached out, but we had been unable to tell what was wrong. Now it’s working and I’m happy!

The app makes handing your phone over to another person to view photos much less fraught. While it is geared to allowing kids to play with pictures and videos in a controlled setting, it also works great with sharing a curated set of pictures with adults. It transforms your phone, in the best way possible, into a single use device: a picture (and video) frame.
