One thing I am hoping that gets updated on the map section is the MPH display. At times it shows and other times it doesn't. And at times the carry over into a new speed limit is not updated. Outside of that I really like the app. It is very customizable. ### 3/5 — Has potential, but check compatibility first *2026-01-16* There’s a lot of promise from this app, but so far my experience has been very mixed. Currently I use the BMW app for trip statistics/vehicle status, Waze or AppleMaps for my daily nav/traffic mitigation, and a couple OBD2 apps for scanning and live telemetry. This app would potentially be a godsend, combining all the above into one, customizable, CarPlay compatible, interface. But alas, my vehicle is not yet fully supported and there is no telling how long I’ll have to wait. Top that off with the fact that, so far, I’ve found that, yes the app is full of features, but It doesn’t really excel at any of them. Or at least not enough to sway me away from the other apps I’m currently using. The CarPlay interface and navigation has also been a bit buggy so I’ve ended up running the app on my phone (to test trip logging) and just using other navigation. Hopefully someday I’ll come back and give it another shot ### 4/5 — Good improvement on Apple Maps *2025-12-03* I use this app in my vehicles, connected via a Bluetooth ODB scanner. Sets up quickly and works fine. As much as I like Apple Maps this lets you add useful custom widgets to the display. Developer is working hard and frequently releasing updates. Purchased the lifetime license, happy with the app. ### 3/5 — still need improvement *2025-11-20* I belive what would make users use this app even more would be fixing the search bar on the maps section. you always have to paste an address and most of the time it takes you somewhere else. ### 4/5 — Cool features - complicated *2025-11-19* I think the app is awesome and super cool. I don’t really understand how to add a vehicle and frankly don’t want to share my cars vin in an app. BUT And I cannot express how much I enjoy this- SATELLITE MAPS. Google Maps has it, but the quality is so bad. Literally is the best. Maybe add traffic lines also! ### 3/5 — Good but Not Good Enough *2025-11-14* Unlike Google maps or Waze, this app, Sidecar does not show speed limits or the speed you’re driving. This is a known deficiency in Apple Maps and until Apple institutes a speedometer and speed limit notification in its Maps app Sidecar is really useless. Unfortunately, it’s pretty good but lacking. So until Apple adds those features, I will continue to use either Waze or Google maps as my primary navigation choice . **Developer response:** Hi there! Sidecar isn’t Apple Maps, and our speed limits come from our partnership with OpenStreetMaps, which sometimes is missing speed limit data on a street. If the data is missing we highly encourage contributing updates back to OSM so that everyone can benefit from more accurate data :) ### 4/5 — Great App! *2025-04-23, version v2.3.5* Great app! Please add support for Volkswagen Atlas. I love the 3D Map and widgets. Also to get any support you must join GitHub. They themselves are so paranoid of bots make joining a full cavity search process. I really wanted this app but will not jump through multiple hoops just for them. Your car might not be fully onboarded yet so if you let me know your make and model and year and I can help you better ❤️ ### 1/5 — Total waste of money *2025-09-28* The developer has plugged this app in forums, Reddit, and websites to build up a hype bubble they burst quickly. It is not a bad idea, but the app is way overpriced and it shows so much pointless data. I mean, does anyone really need a constant view of tyre pressure? **Developer response:** Sorry you feel this way :( Sidecar is still a pretty new app, and I take feedback pretty seriously. Your comment gets your frustration across, but doesn’t give me any specific feedback I can take action on so I’m saddened that I can’t make this better. Wishing you well. ### 1/5 — My car is not supported *2025-06-02, version v2.4.1* The app is useless without developer support, and the support team isn’t responding. ### 1/5 — No support for getting refund on removed features *2025-05-01* I paid the $9.99 price when Safari in CarPlay was added. The feature was removed a few days later as the developer was told by Apple to remove it. The app said we could request a refund. When I did that with Apple my refund was denied and there’s no way to appeal it after the first appeal even though the app developer says that it should be eligible for refund. **Developer response:** Hey there! Please email a screenshot of the rejection to support@clutch.engineering and I’ll see what I can do to escalate this; leaving a one star review definitely won’t fix this and I unfortunately can’t control Apple’s rejections :( ### 1/5 — Scam Alert – Paid for Features They Removed! *2025-04-25* I paid specifically for features that were later removed without notice. When I contacted support, they refused to give me a refund. This feels like a bait-and-switch. Be very careful before giving them your money — total scam behavior! **Developer response:** Please reach out to me at support@clutch.engineering with a screenshot of the rejection if Apple is refusing your refund. ### 1/5 — Garbage App *2025-04-24, version v2.3.5* Get Car Scanner Pro instead for 8 bucks, an engineer’s dream app that is way more capable and missing all the pay walls. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t display any data from the OBD *2025-03-11* No data is extracted and displayed on the app. All it shows is a map with static numbers. Speed, tire pressure and such other key data is not shown at all. App seem to be not working at all. Based on Jeff (clutch engineering) I purchased compatible OBD for my car but nothing works for me. Now Jeff reveals that my car model Is not on his priority list !! Unprofessional. I cancelled my subscription to this app. BEWARE: please check your car model for compatibility and onboarding to ensure the app extracts and displays data on the app. Otherwise the app is useless. ### 1/5 — I hate subscriptions *2024-12-25* Wish I could just pay for something. This isn’t worth monthly transactions. ### 2/5 — Suddenly closing *2025-12-03* When I open start a navigation, it suddenly closes the app. It is also the same on CarPlay. ### 3/5 — AI coded app with unique features *2026-04-03* Is it a good idea to give a AI coded app access to your OBD port? You be the judge. Has cool features, sadly upon determining the development process I'm not comfortable using it now let alone spending $. The nav loses to GMaps for me, wish I could use Pelican's nav more reliably since I wouldn't get the widgets I pay for otherwise **Developer response:** Pelican’s OBD stack was built long before AI coding was a concept, after hundreds of hours studying SAE standards and rigorous technical implementations covering 30 years of automotive diagnostics protocols. The stack has been further hardened through tens of millions of miles driven by hundreds of thousands of drivers, and not one of those miles was driven using an AI-coded app. As a solo founder, I do use AI tooling to prototype new features throughout Pelican, but not a single line of code goes into Pelican without being reviewed and tested, and the OBD stack in particular is the most hardened part of Pelican. It would be more accurate to say today that Pelican has an AI-assisted app development process, and one that has enabled me to improve the stability and quality of Pelican in countless ways. But to call Pelican an AI coded app is to ignore the years of human development time that have been invested into making Pelican what it is today. Navigation is the next big focus area for me. It works seamlessly with my car and the developer actively looks to add new vehicles every few weeks. It's such an awesome interface and makes it easy to log trips. Would highly recommend if anyone is looking for a trip logging app that connects directly to their car! One thing I wanted to add is that some people are probably confused by the purpose of the app. I don't think you should see this app as replacing Google maps for instance. This app is a digital logbook for your drive and it shows everything, your speed, tire pressure, fuel level, all that. And then it logs it for you so you can go back and know your exact statistics from every single drive. I think some people get confused because they open this app and they wonder why it doesn't have all the features that Google I don't think this was first and foremost meant to be a navigation app, it was meant to be a trip logging app. ### 5/5 — Such a cool app! *2026-03-06* I love this app, everything regular CarPlay lacks Sidecar provides. Sidecar lets me see tire pressure, oil temp and engine coolant temp all while navigating. It’s clean and responsive. Also 100% the fastest route finding app. It tries to find a route before you even finish typing the address. Also rerouting is literally instant.
