Gynecologic surgeons have recently witnessed significant progress in how the anatomy of the pelvic floor and the physiology of genital prolapse is understood. We are now able to acknowledge with greater clarity the many factors implicated in the genesis of pelvic organ prolapse, such as defects in fascial and ligamentous supportive structures. This has not only allowed for the development of site-specific surgical procedures that provide better restoration of normal anatomy but has also called our attention to the need, in certain situations, to use synthetic material in an attempt to lower the recurrence rates when the quality of our patient’s native tissue is less than ideal.
To accomplish a successful operation, being familiar with fundamental anatomical concepts essential for the safe and effective performance of pelvic reconstructive surgery is imperative. This application's main objective is to offer the gynecologic surgeon a user-friendly and interactive three-dimensional tool that will hopefully aid in understanding such a complex and multi-faceted subject as pelvic floor anatomy. If this goal is achieved, chances are that the colleague will be better prepared to critically evaluate the plethora of surgical techniques available today for pelvic floor repair, abbreviating his learning curve and ultimately benefiting his patients.

Para llevar a cabo una operación exitosa, es imprescindible estar familiarizado con los conceptos fundamentales anatómicos que son esenciales para el funcionamiento seguro y eficaz de la cirugía reconstructiva del piso pélvico. Este es el objetivo principal de esta aplicación: ofrecer al cirujano ginecológico una amigable e interactiva herramienta en tres dimensiones que esperamos ayude en la comprensión de un tema tan complejo y multifacético como la anatomía del suelo pélvico.
