It's beautifully written, and very exciting. My only complaint is the Morgan romance. She gets pregnant with your child, and then learns that you are her half-brother (her mother tells her when you are not present). But at the end she just leaves, and never tells you that her reason for leaving is because she is your half-sister. It left the romance aspect of this a bit unresolved. But other than that it was great! ### 5/5 — Great story!!! *2016-12-06, version 1.0.2* I really enjoyed this, it does have a good replay value and the story is great. Writing is good with good defined characters. I was delightfully surprised with this one. ### 5/5 — Great fun! *2016-06-19, version 1.0.2* This was one of my favorite interactive fiction games. I really enjoyed the world building with the fantasy Britain and the characters were interesting, written with consistency, and relatable My one complaint is that some of the game elements didn't hold up to the narrative very well. Examples like where my character was a very low warrior skill but was still able to fight in lots of battles and defeat legendary enemies, and before a major battle I made a speech proclaiming for the old gods and my Christian allies were displeased, but apparently not that much. It just felt like certain things needed to happen regardless of my input. Still though, highly enjoyable story and writing, well worth a play through. ### 4/5 — Well written and atmospheric *2016-04-17, version 1.0.2* This is an engrossing Choice Of game that has decent replay value. Certainly worth a go. ### 5/5 — Wow! *2016-03-14, version 1.0.2* This story has to be one of the best ones made for me to enjoy, it follows the tale with realism and mythology mixed well. Almost every choice I made had some kind of consequence, the subject of religion felt realistic in this story because it portrayed the hassle religions had in those days. I do wish they focused on characters background stories more as well. *SPOILERS* The sudden halt during the war felt a bit anticlimactic, they only let you go through half the war before the end of the war come in line after a few sentences, maybe focus on how the time during this bloody fight you become more cold as you slash through so many enemies, I got the slight hint the author tried to do this but didn't focus on it to much. *END SPOILER* All in all I don't regret buying this one.👍🏽 ### 5/5 — Good *2016-02-24, version 1.0.2* Good game, liked the setting. ### 5/5 — Really enjoyable *2016-02-17, version 1.0.2* I really enjoyed Pendragon it was very fun and you really attach to the characters with many different outcomes for very situation you could become queen or king depending in your gender or find your head on a spike my first play through was very for-filling and defiantly deserves a sequel please don't let this great game not get the credit it deserves this is my second or possibly favourite choice of game don't let it go unnoticed please make a sequel. I loved the writing and found the story and the choices deeply engaging. I am looking forward to playing again and making different choices, just to see how much the story can change, but I Imagine there will be quite a good deal of variety here. Maybe a sequel but definitely more in an update or something. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Gritty, muddy and lacking a sense of fantasy or fun *2018-11-22, version 1.0.3* When you play something called pendragon you usually want to play something with knights in gleaming armor and high castles. This game will give you the dawn of Britain with barbarian clans fighting over piles of sticks and mud. And had awful to try and remember names. They try to make it somewhat period accurate, so everyone you meet is steeped in backwards tradition (like thinking winning a tournament makes you fit to lead an army and that your priests actually have magic powers ((they don’t)) ) which is incredibly frustrating to navigate around, basically being forced to constantly make choices that would appease a bunch of unwashed idiots or loose your head. I also don’t like the gendered system where either women or warriors or men are warriors. Why? If your trying to make it time period accurate and enforce gender roles, just make it men because at that point offering the choice is undermining your goal anyway. If your going to undermine your goal anyway, toss the sexism out the window and get rid of the gender roles. ### 1/5 — Romance *2018-03-09, version 1.0.2* The Morgan romance ruined everything for me. ### 1/5 — Really didn't like. *2015-12-17, version 1.0.0* So I thought I'd really like this story, as fantasy and and medieval times are something I enjoy. But, I really didn't. There was a lot of violence (which I didn't like) and I found myself feeling kinda disgusted more than once (not necessarily because of the violence..). I think I would have liked the story more if the main character wasn't playing an active role in battle. And the characters...I wasn't really liking any of them. No one seemed very trustworthy/non-barbarian like to me XP. To be fair, I guess I'll just say it really wasn't my cup of tea. And I'll just leave it at that. ### 2/5 — My name isn’t ‘Art’. Try 3 more letters. *2019-02-15, version 1.0.3* Ok so far, but I do wish people would stop calling me ‘Art’. It’s a name which never appears in the original stories for very good reasons. In ancient Britain it’s a seperate name (celtic, meaning ‘bear’) from Arthur, and using it as a shortening of the name ‘Arthur’ is a modern American invention. No British person named Arthur has EVER been called ‘Art’. It drags me out of the fantasy they’re trying to create to have people referring to Arthur in such a completely inappropriate way. It’s annoying me so much I’m finding it difficult to enjoy the story, which is pretty average fare so far anyway. In the pipeline: this company makes a text adventure about the Second Coming of Jez. The writing is over done and when read playing the female side seems forced and impractical. I've played it a few times through and only the ending really changes. A lot of choice of games of this price range are far superior. Get those instead. ### 3/5 — Interesting, but not without flaws, *2015-12-07, version 1.0.0* Barely a few minutes in and I halted my play, when the gender roles were presented to be such absolutes it seemed very much like I wasn't going to make much of my choices count. It's an interesting tale of a familiar story, I enjoy the setting and the characters, but I didn't enjoy how the choices and consequences were so very absolute in a scripted way. The stats can be affected extremely harshly, no middle ground and often no indication as to why until it's done. The story overall is fair, the later portions certainly could've been less brief. I love CoG for making an interactive experience through text alone, but the choices have to be choices, and they need matter to both players and the story. ### 3/5 — Not bad. Not great. *2015-12-05, version 1.0.0* I want to love it, what with Wales being my home. But it's very hard to follow. Also permadeath without any checkpoints makes you feel angry in the wrong sort of ways. ### 3/5 — Ok so far *2015-12-05, version 1.0.0* It's pretty interesting so far and pretty well written, but I there seems to be quite a lot of bugs in this app. For example, when I choose to hang back to heal the wounded while the king/queen fights the Saxon champion, it greatly increases my ruthlessness for some reason, when it probably should increase compassion instead. Another example is that something Gaia says when Blodwyn confronts you in the banquet hall, is repeated twice in a run on sentence. However, the the second example I mentioned here fixes itself when I close the app and open it back up again. Still, it's a bug and a weird one at that. As a lover of fantasy and knight books this one excelled. It involves you into the story well and ropes you in for another hour of reading. I was totally immersed in it and was unable to stop playing from start to finish. I really enjoyed myself, and I can’t wait to play again to see what happens making different choices. I loved the feeling of being in the time of King Arthur’s Britain after the Romans left. I loved being able to play as a woman warrior in a strong women warrior culture. I felt strongly pulled by the various choices presented to me, more and more as the story progressed. Though not as long, the heartfelt battles, politics, and most importantly - relationships, are mechanisms used perfectly to win over any audience.
