## What is Pennywick?

Scan a receipt and Pennywick fills in the entry for you — merchant, total, date, and category — reading it right on your device.

No bank login. No account. No ads. Free to download, and free to keep using.

WHY PENNYWICK IS DIFFERENT
Most budgeting apps want your bank credentials. Pennywick never asks. You scan or type what you spend, and your finances stay on your iPhone and in your own iCloud — where nobody else, including us, can read them.

FREE, WITH NO CATCH
• Unlimited manual entries, with a full ledger, search, filters, and tags
• Budgets per category, savings goals, and this month's trends
• Scan 5 receipts a week, from your camera or a file
• Export everything to CSV or a full backup — and restore it
• Face ID lock, and private sync across your devices via your own iCloud

STANDARD — ONE PURCHASE, KEPT FOREVER
• Unlimited receipt scanning, from the camera or from PDF, email, and shared files
• Household sharing: one ledger with family or roommates. Anyone you invite joins free
• Insights across a quarter or a whole year, not just the current month
• Recurring entries, so rent, salary, and subscriptions post themselves
• Bring your own OpenAI or Gemini key for sharper reading, billed to your account

Standard is a single purchase. Pay once, and it stays unlocked.

PRO — OPTIONAL SUBSCRIPTION
Everything in Standard, plus cloud receipt reading: 150 receipts a month read by a cloud model, with no API key to obtain and no second bill. Only the text of a receipt is ever sent, never the photo, and it stays off until you switch it on.

You never need Pro. Everything Pennywick does on your device is a one-time purchase.

BUILT FOR PRIVACY
Your finance data stays on your device and in your own iCloud account. Pennywick never asks you to create an account. Household sharing uses Apple CloudKit Sharing with people you invite. Receipts are read on your device by default.

MADE FOR REAL RECEIPTS
Crumpled paper, faded thermal print, long supermarket rolls, foreign currencies, and receipts in English, German, Hungarian, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Czech. Foreign totals convert at daily European Central Bank rates.

Already bought Pennywick before it was free? Everything stays unlocked — automatically, permanently, and you don't need to do anything.

Download Pennywick and build a budget habit that actually sticks.

PRO SUBSCRIPTION DETAILS
Pennywick Pro is an auto-renewable subscription, billed monthly or yearly (US: $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year; your local price is shown in the app before you buy). Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and you can manage or cancel it any time in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Standard is a one-time purchase and never renews.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.0 — 2026-10-12

Turn any period into a PDF expense report — every expense, totals by category, and your receipt photos if you want them. Free, like CSV export.

New
• Expense report as a PDF. Settings › Data & backup turns this month, last month or a custom range into a PDF you can send to an accountant, a landlord or an employer. One switch adds your receipt images.
• Converted amounts are now marked ≈. They use the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, which your bank's will differ from — so you can type the rate you were actually charged, and Pennywick keeps it as yours.

Nothing about where your data lives has changed: on your device and in your own iCloud. No bank login, no account.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-09-24

Log spending in seconds, without opening the app.

• Widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen show this month's expenses and open the scanner or a new entry in one tap. While App Lock is on, they show no amounts.
• Scan Receipt and New Entry controls for Control Center, the Lock Screen, and the Action button.
• Siri and Shortcuts: say "Log an expense in Pennywick" and it's saved, or ask Pennywick to scan a receipt.

Also in this update:
• With Standard, tap a shop in Insights › Top merchants to see your all-time spending there, how often you go, and your average basket.
• Scanned and edited entries can now be set to repeat, not only new ones.
• Editing a savings contribution no longer turns it into an expense.
• A clearer plan picker when you upgrade.

### 2.0.6 — 2026-09-10

A crash fix for background iCloud sync.

If Pennywick was syncing in the background while your iPhone was locked, it could close unexpectedly. You would rarely have seen it happen — the app was already in the background — but the sync it was partway through had to start over later, so an entry added on another device, or by someone in your household, could take longer than it should to reach you.

### 2.0.5 — 2026-09-08

A fix for how shared entries are labeled, and for foreign-currency receipts in a household.

In a shared household, an entry could say the wrong thing about who added it. A receipt someone else scanned could show up as "You" on your device, and "Member" was printed as if it were that person's actual name — because the label was decided by whoever created the entry, not by whoever was looking at it. This version decides it correctly: your device now works out who created each entry from your own point of view, showing a real name when one is known and "You" only for entries you actually made.

Foreign-currency receipts also travel properly now. If you scanned a receipt in another currency, everyone else in the household saw only the converted total — the original price, the exchange rate, and where that rate came from never reached them. They do now, so the same receipt reads the same way on everybody's device.

Two related leaks are also closed. Leaving a shared household could leave a trace of another member's name behind on an entry, which could then reappear if that entry was later shared into a different household. And restoring a backup taken inside someone else's household could bring their name onto your ledger even though you were never part of their share.

Nothing you have saved is affected, and there is nothing to restore — this corrects itself the next time each device syncs.

### 2.0.4 — 2026-09-05

A fix that makes household sharing actually work for the people you invite.

Anyone you invited into a household ended up with an empty one. None of your entries reached their device, and anything they scanned or added failed with "Something went wrong" — while your own side kept reporting a clean, healthy sync the whole time. The invite itself was built the wrong way from the start, granting a share of nothing.

This version fixes how invites are created. If you already share a household, open Settings → Household and tap Invite members once — that repairs the share for everyone already in it, with nothing else to do.

Nothing anyone has entered is lost. It stayed on each person's own device the whole time; it just wasn't reaching the rest of the household.
