## What is PensionForge?

PensionForge models retirement projections for Florida public pension members — your pension benefit, DROP lump sum, contribution balances, and timeline, from your actual plan profile. It covers the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and Florida's local police and firefighter pension plans under Chapters 175 and 185, beginning with the City of St. Cloud.

Every FRS membership class is supported — Special Risk (fire, EMS, law enforcement, corrections), Regular Class (teachers, state and county employees), and everyone in between — plus supported Chapter 175/185 plans. Projections use the formulas and factors published for whichever plan you pick.

NEW — TIMELINE & INCOME PLAN
Your retirement, mapped end to end. The Timeline orders every milestone — vesting, retirement eligibility, your DROP window, Social Security and Medicare ages, and the dates you set — each with the rule and statute behind it. Built in, the Income Plan sets a target annual income and tests whether it holds to any age you choose, simulating your pension, Social Security, and accounts year by year, including required minimum distributions. Find the highest income that holds, inspect every stream, and set your own withdrawal rate — no more fixed 4%.

SCENARIO MODELING
Build and compare scenarios side by side — vary salary growth, retirement age, DROP timing, and contribution rates to see how each moves your projected pension, DROP balance, and total income.

THRESHOLD ALERTS
Set alerts on any of 16 metrics and get notified when your projected pension crosses a target, your DROP balance hits a milestone, or a retirement date nears — evaluated daily via email and iOS notifications.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.0 — 2026-08-11

NEW — plan any separation date, with or without DROP

• The scenario wizard no longer asks you to pick a retirement-path
category. Choose whether you plan to use DROP, and — without DROP —
enter the date you plan to leave, anywhere from vesting to well past
normal retirement. The app tells you what your date means: before,
at, or past your normal retirement date, and what reduction applies
if any. Working past normal retirement without DROP — previously not
expressible — now projects correctly, including the higher multiplier
tiers some classes earn for service past the normal retirement date.
Under DROP, enter your duration in years and months; your projected
pension lock-in date and last day of employment are shown from your
entry point and duration. Saved scenarios keep working unchanged.

NEW — record purchased service credit ("buy-back time")

• Record service credit you have already purchased, from the profile
Personal tab or the Service Credit Purchase tool. Purchased years are
stored separately from your earned years and every projection applies
them under the statutory crediting rules for your class: the 1.60%
purchased-service rate, counting toward the Regular Class
normal-retirement service requirement, never moving Special Risk
eligibility dates. Purchased service appears on scenario details,
  PDFs, and projection explanations.

• Non-FRS plans: St. Cloud members record purchased service on their
own plan's terms — the years purchased, the accrual rate their plan
credits, and whether those years count toward eligibility.

FIXED

• Projected retirement date for members past age-based eligibility:
with no separation date entered, the projection now uses the earlier
of the two paths to normal retirement — age plus vesting, or total
service — instead of assuming you keep working to the service-based
  date.

• Pension growth follows your entered separation date: the "How your
pension grows" chart, the pension slider, and the Income Plan's
cost-of-living timing now anchor on the date you entered, including
  dates past normal retirement.

• Special Risk scenarios saved from the Service Credit Purchase tool
now project exactly what the impact table shows: purchased years
credited at 1.60%, eligibility dates from earned service alone.

• St. Cloud members no longer see FRS buy-back pricing or FRS
crediting copy; the Service Credit Purchase tool and profile
  surfaces are now plan-aware.

• Projection explanations itemize additive pension components
(purchased service, sick-leave credit), so the formula shown
  reproduces the stated annual pension.

• Dismissing a threshold alert now hides the dashboard alert strip.
Finishing setup no longer bounces you back to Get Started or drops
your sign-in. The Income Plan chart's $0 axis label no longer
  overlaps the income target label.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-07-19

• Search — find anything in the app from one place. Search your tools,
Learn articles, glossary terms, published legislation, app pages, and
your own saved scenarios. Open it from the search icon in the sidebar,
the menu on mobile, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) on the web app. The Alerts
bell now lives in the sidebar navigation under Timeline.

• Timeline, sized for your desktop — on larger screens the Timeline now
pairs the milestone spine with a detail panel alongside it. Select a
milestone to read the rule behind it — its basis, statute citation,
and related Learn articles — without the page shifting under you.
Before you select anything, the panel shows your next projected
milestone plus your horizon and alerts; your income plan shows its
status and year-by-year chart. On phones the Timeline works exactly
  as before.

• Income Plan: reserve part of an account for spending. Set an optional
"reserved for spending" amount on any account and the drawdown
projection runs on what remains. The account card and assumptions
panel disclose what was set aside.

• St. Cloud sick leave — your sick-leave hours can now be entered in
the setup wizard's Career step and in the scenario editor, not just
  the profile editor.

FIXED — retirement income totals

• One income total, everywhere. Every surface — dashboard, income
breakdown card, retirement summary, wizard results, household tab,
PDFs, and the plan narrative — now shows the same total: pension +
account drawdown + Health Insurance Subsidy. Previously the dashboard
and breakdown card could disagree by the Social Security amount.

• Social Security is shown on its own labeled line ("Social Security
from age 62: +$1,400/mo — not included above") rather than folded
into the headline, since it begins at your claiming age. The % of
AFC ring uses the same total. If you entered a benefit, the app
applies the Social Security Administration's statutory claiming-age
adjustment, shown step by step in "How was this calculated?". No tax
is deducted from displayed totals; amounts are before taxes.

• Every "How was this calculated?" equation now adds up: the bold total
is the exact sum of the lines above it, including the Health
Insurance Subsidy when projected, with the spouse DROP lump sum
marked as paid at DROP exit rather than omitted.

• The Health Insurance Subsidy, when expected, joins the headline
total everywhere and is itemized as its own line (still subject to
  annual legislative appropriation).

FIXED — projected retirement age

• Projected retirement and separation ages now include the months since
your last birthday. Previously the projection started from your age
in whole years, which could understate the projected retirement age
by up to a year. Timeline year labels use the same corrected age,
and ages display with one decimal. For vested members who separate
early, projected collection now begins at the normal retirement age.

• The Eligible milestone uses the same corrected age, so it matches
the markers beside it. Eligibility dates reached by age land on the
actual normal-retirement birthday — including exported calendar
events — instead of up to a year later.

• Spouse milestones share the corrected age base. For a spouse whose
retirement is reached by age, the projected working window now ends
on the normal-retirement birthday, which can slightly reduce
  projected spouse service and pension.

• DROP scenarios say so on the card: "After 20.5 years of service + 5
years in DROP" — the age is your projected DROP exit; pension
service is fixed at DROP entry.

FIXED — mobile navigation

• The Timeline tab now always appears in the bottom bar when you're
signed in. Previously the bar could keep showing "Get Started" in
Timeline's slot until you signed out and back in. Finishing setup now
  updates the navigation immediately.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-07-18

What's New

- Timeline — a new view of your retirement milestones (vesting, retirement eligibility, your DROP window and participation period, Social Security and Medicare ages, and the dates you set), ordered by distance from today. Tap any milestone to see the rule behind it, with its statute citation. The Timeline takes the Alerts spot in the bottom navigation; Alerts itself is unchanged and is one tap away via the Timeline's bell or its alerts row.
- Your withdrawal rate, your call — the drawdown rate applied to your retirement accounts is now an input you control (previously a fixed 4%). Every projection surface uses the rate you set.
- DROP lump-sum destination — you can now record what you plan to do with your DROP lump sum at exit. A rollover or conversion destination adds the lump to your drawdown base, so projected monthly income includes a separately labeled "DROP rollover drawdown" stream — on the dashboard, income chart, calculation breakdown, household timeline, scenario comparisons, and PDFs. Cash-out (or leaving it unset) projects exactly as before.
- Income plan — set a target annual income and test whether it holds to an age you choose. Your pension (with your elected payment option and COLA), Social Security amounts you enter from your ssa.gov statements, and your retirement accounts in the draw order you set are simulated year by year, including required minimum distributions. The plan lives on your Timeline as a single card: adjust the target and watch the answer update, find the highest income that holds, and open the year-by-year flow to see every stream — including a survivor view based on an assumption you set, in either direction. Tap any year in the flow to see that year's dollars: pension, Social Security, each account's draw, its required minimum distribution, any amount the minimum forces out beyond your plan, and the year's gross total. Setup pulls your account balances from your saved scenarios and prefills from the active one; and if a scenario models DROP with a rollover destination (457(b), traditional IRA, or Roth conversion), you can add a separate "DROP rollover (projected)" account seeded with the lump sum projected from your inputs and dated at your DROP exit — held aside until that year, then drawn in the order you set, never merged into a balance you entered. All amounts are gross, before taxes, and every assumption is listed with its source.

Fixes

- Fixed "Narrative unavailable — tap to retry" appearing for valid projections (decimal figures such as "15.6%" were miscounted as sentence breaks). Rate-limited regeneration now shows your most recent narrative with the date of the inputs it reflects, instead of an error.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-10

PensionForge is now multi-system.

Until now, PensionForge modeled the Florida Retirement System (FRS). Version 1.4.0 adds its first non-FRS pension system: the City of St. Cloud Police Officers' and Firefighters' Retirement System (Chapters 175/185). If you belong to St. Cloud Police or Fire, you can now model your retirement with your plan's actual rules — not an FRS approximation.

NEW: ST. CLOUD POLICE & FIRE (CH. 175/185)
• Banded benefit multipliers applied by your years of service
• Sick-leave accrual credited toward service
• The plan's delayed flat COLA (1% per year, beginning after the statutory wait)
• DROP modeled on your election — the fixed statutory rate or an assumed market rate
• Pre-retirement survivor benefits in the plan's ten-year-payable form
• Projections, disclaimers, and PDF reports that cite St. Cloud's plan documents, never FRS statutes

Pick your system during onboarding at Get Started, and every calculation, citation, and disclaimer follows the plan you chose.

ENGINE ACCURACY UPDATES
• Regular Class pension multiplier now follows the full service-year tier ladder in section 121.091(1)(a)
• Purchased service credited at the Regular Class rate, with cost-basis notes
• 2026 tax data refreshed: standard deductions, the SSA taxable wage base ($184,500), and rules for several relocation states
• Section 72(t) age-55 separation exception modeled for early-withdrawal timing
• Special Risk line-of-duty-death survivor pension corrected to 100% of salary
• A repealed reemployment provision removed

PensionForge estimates and projects from the inputs you provide, for educational purposes. It is not a financial advisor and does not tell you what to do.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-02

PensionForge 1.3.0 — Household & Beyond

This release grows PensionForge from a single-member pension calculator into a household retirement planning tool, and introduces a new guided "Decision Flow" experience.

NEW TOOLS

• Survivor / Death Scenario Modeling — estimate what your family would receive if you pass away in active service, during DROP, or after retirement. Projects your FRS survivor benefit under each payment option, side by side, alongside estimated Social Security survivor benefits, life insurance, and any DROP balance — including line-of-duty-death provisions (spouse pension, state lump sums, and federal PSOB).

• DROP Exit Strategy — for members leaving DROP with a lump sum, estimate the multi-year federal tax picture of each way to deploy it: a governmental 457(b), a Traditional IRA, a Roth conversion, cash, or a custom split. Includes required minimum distribution timing (SECURE 2.0), the public-safety §72(t)(10) early-withdrawal rule, and how withdrawals interact with Social Security taxation. Strategies are shown side by side, never ranked.

• Service Credit Purchase — estimate the cost to buy credit for prior military, other-Florida-public, or out-of-state service, and see the projected effect on your credited service, monthly benefit, normal retirement date, DROP eligibility, and breakeven.

• Re-Employment Restriction — check whether returning to an FRS employer after retirement would suspend your pension, and for how long, under the 6/12-month limitation.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE

• Refreshed household income wizard, aligned with the smoother onboarding experience.

• New mobile Menu drawer that mirrors the full desktop sidebar, so every tool stays reachable on your phone as our toolset grows.
