## What is Penta?

Penta turns your iPhone, iPad or iPhone Duo into a five-disc CD changer — the hi-fi component you grew up with, rebuilt for your Apple Music library.

Open a jewel case, drop the disc into the carousel, and play. Every detail is here: the fluorescent display, the motorized carousel, the power-on self-test, a disc winding up to speed before it plays, and the clunk as it comes to a stop.

ON IPHONE DUO
The phone is the jewel case. Close it and you're holding the album; open it and the case opens with it. Open flat for the whole deck, or fold it like a laptop for your CD wallet above the tray.

FEATURES
• A real five-disc carousel — load, spin, and swap discs by hand
• Real sounds, recorded from a five-disc changer: key clicks, the tray, the platter turning and a disc set down
• A different deck each way up: the full carousel sideways, a CD wallet over the tray upright
• Jewel-case browser — open the case and drag the disc out, or drop it straight into any of the five slots
• Plays your Apple Music library in full, with real album art on every disc
• Keys you can feel — on iPhone every key clicks under your thumb
• Magazines — save a set of five discs and reload the whole cartridge later
• Favorites, whole-library search, and Apple Music catalog search
• A vacuum-fluorescent display with track, time, and format readouts
• Any way up on iPad, and in resizable windows
• Favorites and saved magazines sync across your devices via iCloud

PENTA PRO
A one-time unlock: Real CD Artwork (beta) shows the actual printed disc instead of the album cover, plus the full phosphor-colour set, the analog needle and VU meters, a gentle readable spin, the minimal readout, and unlimited saved magazines. The free deck plays your whole library with no limits.

Albums you own play without a subscription. Streaming from the Apple Music catalog needs an Apple Music subscription.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-10-16

Penta comes to iPhone Duo, and the deck now sounds like the real thing.

• iPhone Duo: the phone is the jewel case. Open it and the case opens with it, then load the disc into the changer. Fold it like a laptop and your CD wallet sits above the tray.
• Real sounds: the keys, the tray, the carousel and a disc being set down are recorded from a real five-disc changer.
• Hold it upright for a new deck: a CD wallet over the disc tray, on iPhone and iPad. Turn it sideways for the full carousel.
• Penta Pro adds Real CD Artwork (beta): discs can show the actual printed CD instead of the album cover.
• Jewel cases catch the light as you tilt.
• The carousel turns like a real changer, one slot at a time.
• Fixes: stopping while a song is starting now stops it, and opening an album no longer stalls.

### 1.2 — 2026-10-09

The deck feels more like the real thing.

• A disc now winds up to speed before it plays, and clunks to a stop.
• On iPhone, every key clicks under your thumb, and you can feel the carousel turn.
• Load a disc into any of the five slots from its jewel case, without
  interrupting what's playing.
• iPad: Penta now works any way up, and in resizable windows.
• Albums you own now play without an Apple Music subscription, and Penta tells
you why when a disc can't play.
• The scan keys work properly on iPhone, including while paused.
• Penta Pro now unlocks and restores reliably.
• Fixes for shuffle, rotation, and the end of the last disc.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-05

Penta comes to iPhone. The whole deck — carousel, jewel-case browser, and
fluorescent display — now fits in your pocket, in portrait and landscape.

New: Penta Pro. A one-time unlock for the full colour set, the analog needle
meters, a readable slow spin, and unlimited saved magazines.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-01
