### 3/5 — Great news app until it’s not

*2022-05-21, version 3.2.19*

Have used for a while. Love the content and local news, however recently it won’t even pull up any content on my iPad and asks me to remove filters and retry. Frustrating and sorry to see a good content app going up in flames for me.

### 4/5 — Update

*2021-11-01, version 2.1.2*

I’m going to give this another chance and upgraded to a 4…will change to a 5 if promised fixes come through. Before the app began having issues it was phenomenal—wide range of articles, truly balanced selection, let’s you filter out those behind paywalls. I got an immediate response after my complaint, and fixes are in the works. I can be patient.

Original review:

I really want to like this app—apple news is beyond slanted and mostly subscription. But: it never works. It shows articles but when you select them it sends you to different articles. It shows there are 17 articles in a topic but when you click to see them, it takes you to a loading screen then freezes, the only way to leave that is shut the app down completely. Delete and reinstall doesn’t work. No way to contact creators except email that doesn’t work. Look elsewhere

### 4/5 — Almost at 5.

*2021-05-13, version 2.0.26*

The reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5 is because I would love to have Gawq available on a laptop or an iPas. That is how much I love this app. It’s the only news source I use.

### 4/5 — Updating review!

*2021-02-21, version 1.1.2*

App said I was offline and does not show any news, but has been corrected. I love the idea of unfiltered news with no sales articles or tough to avoid news+. Wish I could filter for words, like , never show any articles with certain words.

So far so good.

**Developer response:** Hi there! I'm sorry that this happened. There was a bug that prevented some new users from seeing any results for a short period of time. It seems like you caught us right in the middle of that issue. It's since been fixed in the latest release. We'd love for you to give Gawq another try! We appreciate your feedback!

### 4/5 — Maybe but not yet

*2021-02-15, version 1.1.0*

Another news app that collaborates multiple sources into one tidy place. I need this app (or another like it) to work, but it’s not there yet. I’ve used similar apps (News Break) that were full of junk like promotional links every other headline.

This one does a good job of filtering out the junk, but it has some issues...

You can’t mute topics (even though there is a muted topics section under “content controls”). You can only mute sources. I don’t want to mute everything from Newsweek (although maybe I should) but I do want to mute everything about Lindsay Lohan.

Local or regional news is absent.

The “My Activity” section can’t be altered. In a privacy obsessed world, this seems like a major oversight.

Still, I’m holding onto hope with this one. I anticipate that after a few improvement updates it will become my go to news app. Oh, did I forget to mention the good? Give it a try; I think you’ll think it was worth it.

**Developer response:** Hi there, the local news feature has been added in the latest version — thanks for your suggestion! And you can already mute/follow the topics, we made this feature a bit easier to find (in the article tray menu). If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out at support@gawq.com

### 5/5 — Great app for News Lovers.

*2021-01-17, version 1.0.9*

I enjoy being able to sort and filter the headlines (i.e. no opinion pieces, no pop culture). The interface is very minimalistic-in a good way. No distracting fluff, no pointless notifications (but notifications for big Breaking News are included on Gawk). This app is excellent. I will continue to use it daily!

### 5/5 — By far the best news site out there.

*2021-01-09, version 1.0.8*

Just discovered a wonderful feature that compelled me to write a review. The news consists of a list of headlines. This shows links to two news sources, with a number under it like +18. When you click the number, you get all the stories they curated with a slider to adjust to the left or right of the political spectrum. This is great, because I turn off the lying outlets like CNN NPR *BC, etc. on my main feed but sometimes you want to see what they say. It also has what seems to be the best fact check on the Internet. Very factual and balanced.
One glitch: the news Reader View has ads and formatting removed but sometimes you lose videos, and when you switch back to the regular page view it is very temporary. So I suggest turning off reader view.

### 5/5 — This is awesome!

*2020-12-22, version 1.0.2*

I absolutely love Gawq! This app is easy to navigate and I really value the ability to customize and filter out the news I don’t wish to read. It’s been difficult to find a platform that provides unbiased news updates. Glad I downloaded GAWQ.

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2020-12-22, version 1.0.2*

I love the interface of this app it is so simple and easy to use. Being able to compare so many various sources side by side would take forever before this app. It is great to be able to fact check for yourself and to know the content isn’t being manipulated!!

### 5/5 — Just what I needed

*2020-12-22, version 1.0.2*

As a news junkie I wake up in the middle of the night and go from app to app in shock. This is a junkies dream. Hats off. Now I know it’s legit I’m thinking about erasing them all and being an official Gawker. I might keep one or two as it’s only been a week but almost sold.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not even opens

*2022-03-21, version 3.1.3*

I downloaded this app. But, when I try to open it, immediately closes down. Waste of time to download!

### 1/5 — Why is this app featured?

*2021-09-12, version 2.1.2*

Really limited. Haven’t been updated in months

### 1/5 — Buggy App- Lazy Developers

*2021-06-28, version 2.1.2*

Signed up on their pre release beta.

App released end now can’t get into app,

Try to create account and it says my email already exists.

Try to go signin and it says email doesn’t exist. Same for recover password,

Developers not interested in helping resolve.

### 2/5 — Has promise but news source filtering doesn't work

*2022-10-28, version 4.0.67*

I had so much hope and went through and turned off most of the default news sources, including The South China Morning Post. Go back over to the Top News tab and one of the first articles I see is from that exact news org, then I notice one from The Daily Wire which I also had made sure to disable. With sources such as OAN in the mix (default enabled...really!?) which knowingly publish falsehoods and conspiracy theories this means I can't trust the app.

The topic filters also appeared not to work, but after a few rounds of re-filtering and reloading they did take effect.

### 2/5 — Going downhill

*2022-05-21, version 3.2.19*

Before this app changed its name. It was my favorite news app. Now it takes way too long to load, and the stories that it feeds are a joke. There’s way more fluff pieces now than actual news, and it’s not worth the time anymore. Removed from my devices

### 2/5 — Biased

*2021-05-26, version 2.0.44*

Get a lot of Fox, Breitbart, and Newsweek in the feed. Deleted

### 2/5 — Update

*2021-05-05, version 2.0.26*

Let a review saying that the app was crashing. Installed the update meant to fix it and now I can’t access the app at all. It always says I’m offline. Can’t even see the headlines let alone read the articles. Please update again!

### 2/5 — Good app

*2021-05-01, version 2.0.12*

UPDATE 5/1: The app is completely useless since new update 😭… I really like this app! On my headlines tab it is repeating the articles over. UPDATE when you’re on the following tab and click on 1 of the subjects it crashes the app and take by back to my Home Screen

### 2/5 — Great concept, app crashes ruin the experience

*2021-04-10, version 1.1.3*

I really like the idea of Gawq, the variety in content and that it tries to show multiple views on the topic. It has a good layout and OK navigation. Could use some more navigation gestures like swiping to go between categories.

Unfortunately, the app crashes too often when opening articles. I don't know what in the articles crashes the app but its consistent.

**Developer response:** Hi there, please try updating to the latest version, the crashing issue is fixed there. Thank you for your feedback!

### 2/5 — Two stars only

*2021-03-29, version 1.1.3*

I like the app but it keeps kicking me off when I try to look at any of my ‘Following’ subjects. As soon as I click on any one of them, the app closes.

Okay, the app kicked me off when I clicked on a story I wanted to read. Deleted it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great, and could be excellent with 1 fix

*2022-11-28, version 4.0.67*

Great app - customizable, balanced, and beautiful…. But why can we not change the reader font? It seems like we are stuck with one reader view which is very annoying. Please enable us to change the font!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-06-11, version 2.1.2*

I don’t review often (because I’m lazy), but this is truly one of the greatest apps of this year. It is designed so well. It has no ads. It is extremely unbiased.

Great jobs guys.

### 5/5 — So refreshing!

*2021-05-06, version 2.0.26*

I have found my perfect news app. It’s got just the right amount stories to browse in a great format, without the constant spins. I had a suggestion for the devs and they replied back the same day! I couldn’t be happier.

### 5/5 — Update

*2021-05-01, version 2.0.12*

Deleted and re-downloaded new version of the app and everything is working fine. Great news app!

### 5/5 — Gawq is what I’ve been looking for

*2021-04-03, version 1.1.3*

Finally a news source thats *unbiased* I’m not a news person but with gawq I feel like I can be one!

### 5/5 — Found my new source for news

*2021-02-22, version 1.1.2*

Since quitting twitter had been looking for a site that just gives me the facts and no slant based on what I’d looked at before.

Absolutely love the site. Love the variety of sources and the way I can filter (or not) what interests me.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2021-02-15, version 1.1.0*

Thanks for the response! No complaints

### 5/5 — Fantastic news source

*2021-02-08, version 1.1.0*

Gawq offers a great way to get the news and keep up to date on the latest events happening around the world. I’ve been recommending this app since I found it.

### 5/5 — I needed this - thank you!

*2021-01-30, version 1.0.9*

Finally, a news app that gives me access to all the news I want. In my business, I need accurate and timely news from all sorts of perspectives. In this age of carefully curated news offerings that are designed to divide and sensationalize rather than inform or unite we need an app like this. I am getting a more holistic view from a greater variety of sources than ever before. And I love being able to rate headlines that are misleading. So much better than any of my other news apps or trying to get my news from social media. I can’t wait to see what you add next.

### 5/5 — Good App. Potential Ahead

*2021-01-28, version 1.0.9*

I like this app. Not everyday you see one of these well developed news apps. Huge potential
