## What is Personal Pocket Ledger?

Pocket Ledger is designed for those who want to be active guardians of their wealth. While other finance apps try to do the work for you, it often leaves you disconnected from the reality of your balance. Pocket Ledger provides "helpful friction" that forces you to pause and think.

The design is meant to be a diagnostic tool that helps you understand the "Why" behind your money, reducing the decision fatigue and anxiety that often comes with financial management.

=============================
The Four Pillars of Your Financial World
=============================
Your money is organised into four distinct roles based on 'behavioral contracts' around cash—whether it's for "Now" or "Future," and whether it's "Free" to spend or "Locked" away.

* Debit (The Liquid Hub): Your everyday "Now" money. This is for the standard checking and cash you use to navigate daily life.
* Goal (The Vault): Money for the "Future" that you've intentionally locked away. These funds stay hidden from your daily spending views until you reach your target, preventing the "accidental leakage" that usually drains savings.
* Limit (The Capacity Tank): A different way to view credit. Instead of looking at debt, you track your "Available Capacity." It treats your credit card like an envelope that you top up, ensuring you never overextend your future self.
* Debt (The Sink): A liability to be destroyed. Outflows are blocked here—you only see the "victories" as you transfer money in to pay down the balance and shrink the sink.

Smarter Insights
=============================
Maintaining a detailed ledger shouldn't mean managing a hundred messy categories.

* Remarks & Autocomplete: Give every transaction a short free-text note—the shop, the person, the reason. The app learns your words and completes them as you type, so "Starbucks" is always spelled one way.
* Buckets: Group remarks under one umbrella. A "Coffee" bucket covering starbucks, coffeebean, and joe's counts every matching transaction—past and future. Buckets are searches, not labels, so a bucket you create today reorganises your entire history instantly.
* Remark Lookup & Trends: Type any word on the Insights page for its total, count, average, and a trend chart across recent weeks, months, or years. Tap any bar for the exact figure.
* Multi-Ledger Isolation: Keep your Personal, Business, and Side-Hustle books strictly separate. Switching between ledgers is instant, but the data never mixes.

=============================
Built for Day-to-day Realities
=============================
We know that life happens. Your digital records and your bank statement will eventually disagree. Pocket Ledger includes tools to handle this without the stress.

* The Traffic Light System: Every account shows a Green, Yellow, or Red light based on how recently you verified the balance. You'll always know exactly how much you can trust your data.
* One-Screen Reconciliation: If your app and your bank are off by a few dollars, don't waste hours hunting for the error. The app shows you exactly how far off you are and closes the gap with a single adjustment transaction. Perfection is the enemy of consistency.

=============================
Other useful features
=============================
1. The Math Engine: Every amount field is a live calculator. Need to split a 45.00 bill in half? Just type "45 / 2" directly into the field and see the result instantly.
2. Duplicate & Templates: Swipe right on any transaction to duplicate it in one gesture, or save recurring ones as templates with reminders that open the pre-filled form.
4. Privacy First: Your data stays on your device. Pocket Ledger is offline-first and uses local storage, so your financial life is never exported to a third-party server without your explicit command.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 2.1 — 2026-07-09

Fixed an incorrect behaviour in Reconciliation where Limit/Credit accounts and Debt accounts get adjusted in the wrong direction. Also updated the app store screenshots.

### 2 — 2026-07-06

Oh wow, I did not expect to get actual users. Thank you for your interest in Pocket Ledger! I've been prototyping and testing my own app since last year, and worked on some additional improvements for version 2...

Remarks replace Tags: Every transaction now carries a free-text remark — the payee, the purpose, whatever is worth remembering. Your existing tags weren't thrown away: they've been folded into each transaction's remark automatically. As you type a remark, the app suggests words you've used before, ranked by how often you use them. Press Return (or Tab on a hardware keyboard) to take the top suggestion and keep typing. Consistent spelling is what makes everything below work.

Edit and Duplicate: Tapping a transaction now opens it for editing directly. Swiping right duplicates it — a pre-filled form with today's date, one tap to save.

Smarter Insights page: A spending trend chart now sits at the top — six periods at a glance, and you can tap any bar for the exact amount. Type any word into the new Remark Lookup at the bottom for its total, count, average, and trend. Save a term as a **Bucket** — a named group like "Coffee" covering starbucks, coffeebean, and joe's — and buckets become a whole new way to break down your spending. Buckets are searches, not labels: add a term today and it regroups your entire history instantly. Percentages in the breakdown now calculate correctly (they could show 0% before — sorry about that).

Redesigned Reconciliation: One tap on the new seal button next to "+" on the Accounts tab opens the whole session: every account listed with the most overdue first, groups verifiable as a single total or expanded account by account, and a running "3 of 6 verified" counter. A mismatch shows you exactly how far off you are, with a Plug the Gap button right there.

Still offline. Still no accounts, no subscriptions, no data leaving your device. Happy ledgering!
