### 1/5 — Glitchy app glitchy chargers

*2024-09-14*

Pay extra to use their services, only for app to rarely work, and chargers even less reliable

### 1/5 — Never Works

*2024-09-09*

I have tried to use this station on two trips.
It has never worked.
I follow the steps and it ALWAYS comes up fail.
But it sure takes your deposit $$$$ fast.
Now comes the battle to get my deposit back.

### 1/5 — BRUTAL App

*2023-07-12*

The screen to register your phone number is buggy. I have entered my 10 digit number multiple times and the page refuses to let me past the number entry screen?
Second on the same page, when I put in the valid number there is no “next” button- it simply freezes at the number entry page. The arrow at the top of page does nothing
Third and MOST aggravating, when I finally do get to the page to request the verification code, the texts take 5-10 minutes to arrive. Hit the button more than once to get another code - have to wait another 10 minutes.

Come on folks. Surely you can do better ( this from a vice president of a call center operation with national coverage). Hope your chargers are faster?

### 1/5 — Worst app ever

*2023-06-04*

Got to the charging station and the tap doesn’t work and there is a message to download the app. After downloading the app
Which took ages being in the middle of nowhere I go to sign up and it tells me my phone number is invalid. I check my number 2-3 times which is a Canadian number I have had for almost 10 years. Nothing wrong with it it’s just the app.

Thanks for the punishment Petro-Canada!

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2023-06-02*

As many others have stated, won’t allow you to enter a phone number during account verification. As a result, it’s entirely useless. Shockingly poor.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t take phone number

*2023-05-31*

Even after deleting and reinstalling app it won’t recognize phone numbers for the verification step to send security code
Says enter valid number, tried several
Other people on Facebook group Canada EV having same problem
Customer service no help after 20 min hold

### 1/5 — Worst app ever. Ask for a phone for verification but does not accept a number

*2023-05-28*

Won’t accept a phone # when the app asks for it. How can you miss such a bug?

### 1/5 — Won’t even let me sign up

*2023-05-26*

Hard to give more than a 1star rating when the app asks for a phone number, then says it’s not a valid number. Yes. It is. And it’s input correctly.

### 1/5 — App not working

*2023-05-24*

So seems like others are having problems
With the app and entering a phone number.
It’s 2023 and it still has not been fixed ?

### 1/5 — Most awful app I have ever used

*2023-05-22*

This app and the petro Canada charge station are the most awful ev charge experience ever. They don’t work spent hours on the phone with tech support who don’t know what to do when the app does work. Or I’d the charge station give error messages. The want to promote gas vehicles not ev so give a terrible experience. Go to a Co-op or FLO charging station.

### 1/5 — App won’t let me login

*2023-05-21*

The app will not accept my cell number and so will not permit me to log in. There does not appear to be any way to login to the Petro-Canada-Canada EV account other than through the app, so I am stuck. Called support twice. Nothing useful from them.

### 1/5 — Can’t register - phone verification fail

*2023-05-19*

The app is asking me to verify my phone number. I enter my number and then it’s telling me “Please enter a valid phone number”. Garbage.

### 1/5 — Invalid Phone number

*2023-05-17*

After login, this app prompts for phone number for messages validation. I punched in my phone number and always received invalid number message. Called support and was advised to remove and download the app again. Still cannot resolved the issue.

### 1/5 — Charger doesn’t work

*2022-08-01, version 1.3.1*

Charger in Moncton never works…says it works..never fixed…waste of time

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App/chargers frustration

*2024-11-15*

I realize a new app is being developed however the current app is bad. Everytime I’ve had to use petro Canada chargers I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall the app. Not to mention the poor charging rates on their chargers. I feel better effort should have been put into developing a functional app before just slapping a poor product together. As well, when I’ve been at chargers half of the time I am unable to use a card because “card reader is down”

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-11-12*

Email notice stated app was being retired on December 4, 2024 but as of today, November 12, 2024, the app will not load beyond initial screen with Petro-Canada logo.

### 1/5 — Fail, Fail, Fail! Don’t even bother stopping at Petro Canada! Sad!

*2024-11-04*

Petro Canada has zero EV charging reliability in the Maritimes! Only thing that is consistent is how the systems are in a failed or failing state. Shame on you Petro Canada!

### 1/5 — Nice app. Crappy maintenance of their hardware.

*2024-11-02*

If you’re own app doesn’t recognize your status and availability what good is it. Called help line and confirmed their equipment, they don’t even know they have issues and I am certain it’s their issue. Back tracking at low SOC on poor information felt like a trap. Fail. Fail. Fail.

### 1/5 — Chargers are never properly functioning - service is trash

*2024-10-08*

The petro-Canada chargers are fail 90% of the the time. They either fail to initialize or they fail 2-3 min into a charge and it doesn’t matter how many times you try to restart. Go to a different charge network

### 1/5 — Worst chargers ever should be ashamed

*2024-10-05*

Never work properly and absolutely terrible support for drivers when they do work which is rare and I mean rare they misrepresent they speed they charge at

### 1/5 — EV stations equipped with CCS or CHAdeMO which no one uses

*2024-10-05*

Clueless company on what actual market is and needs, all EV stations equipped with CCS or CHAdeMO which no one uses anymore. Cannot charge a Tesla without an adapter. Tesla are 80% of cars on road!!

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2024-09-26*

I’ve tried this app on both my iPhone and my iPad and on both devices the app freezes up at the Petro Canada opening screen. If there was a minus stars rating I’d choose that. As it is, the lowest rating I can give this app is 1 star - which is what I’ve done.

### 1/5 — Last resort chargers

*2024-09-23*

Super unreliable chargers. I try to only use the one Petro charging station close to my work as a last resort. More often than not, the chargers don’t work; either showing errors upon trying to initiate, card reader being unavailable, or the screen just not functioning. The app is also not great.. mine will often crash or just freeze on the initial starting up screen. If I ever call their help centre they’ll often say there’s absolutely nothing they can do.. even though other charging companies are capable of remotely starting their chargers..? Or at least offering compensation of some sort. Also Petro is some of the more pricey fast chargers considering how poorly they usually work.

### 1/5 — Very bad user experience

*2024-09-17*

You click on things in the app like the “charge” button and nothing happens. You get to a machine and the only way to start it is from the app, but the app won’t work. You call customer service and the calls drop the instant someone answers. Note: you can stay on hold indefinitely. You just can’t talk to a person. Whole experience: a big middle finger from me.

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — It just works

*2020-10-24*

Clear, simple interface, and it responds quickly. A pleasure to use.

**Developer response:** dubwise3691 - Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. So happy to hear you are enjoying using our app. Happy charging! -Alex

### 5/5 — App

*2020-10-21*

I have loaded the app, I’m at a charger but the app only has the PetroCan image and can’t get past that page.
Looked to see if there is an update but that’s it.

Guess it’s a work in progress

Update to my review.

I reloaded the app and re-boot the phone and now the system is working as it states.

**Developer response:** Dave - I'm really sorry to hear you are having trouble opening the app. If you delete the app and download our latest release, your issue should resolve itself. If that does not do the trick, please email us at customerservice@petro-canada.ca so we can look into this further. -Alex

### 5/5 — Great addition!

*2020-09-16*

This app makes it easy to pay and find stations. The ability to see station availability is also a plus. A suggestion for future versions would be the ability to earn Petro points for charging sessions.

**Developer response:** lexcyn - So glad to hear you find the app easy to use and thank you for the feedback! I have shared this feature request with our app team. -Alex

### 3/5 — No petro points for charging?

*2022-04-22*

Why I can not use my petro points card (add it to this app as I do it on the original gas app)? I'm a customer who is doing the exact same thing, just I happens to be filling up with electrons not gas/diesel... Please fix that. Thank you

### 2/5 — Chargers ok, App poor

*2023-08-04*

Seems I have to login every time I open it. And then today I was told there were no nearby chargers as I was stood next to a charger…..chargers work well though compared to some others. Fix the app and you’ll have a great product.

### 2/5 — Good when it works

*2021-12-29, version 1.1.0*

The app works well when the towers are working, but falls apart when the chargers are having problems. First, the “call” button makes you call the gas station location where the chargers are. This would be great, if all the local station operators didn’t just tell you “I don’t run those, call the 800 number”. Second, the call center for the 800 number is not 24/7. If it’s close to midnight and you’re having problems with the charger, good luck. And when the station actually is broken, and they’re waiting for parts, the app will still tell you “available”. Apparently available means “we can talk to it, and nobody is charging. But it doesn’t mean “we don’t know of any issue with this station.” And if you do run into problems with a station, and it’s after hours, but you just want to let Petro-Canada know so they can fix it, too bad. You can’t report issues in the app.
