### 4/5 — Good matching pairs game

*2014-08-28, version 1.4*

The game is good and has exceptional good phonics sounds.

### 4/5 — Great in class

*2014-01-27, version 1.3.3*

I use this in my classroom and my young students (5 year olds) like to match the pairs. It's a good teaching aid for me as we teach Jolly Phonics.

### 5/5 — Fun game

*2014-01-23, version 1.3.3*

My daughter is 5 years old and is learning phonics with this app. It keeps her playing a few times a week, 4 stars!

### 5/5 — Great update

*2013-12-14, version 1.3.1*

Thanks for the new update, being able to change the phonics to small or capital letters is very handy for teaching!

### 5/5 — Finally!

*2013-10-16, version 1.3*

I am so happy I have found this app! It's the only one I found that has proper phonics and that my son likes to play.

### 5/5 — Good Phonics app

*2013-08-08, version 1.2*

I really like the app, the jolly phonics groups are great! Great voices

### 5/5 — Good use of phonics

*2013-07-08, version 1.1*

This app uses the Jolly phonics correctly! Quite rare to find on here! Very good.

### 5/5 — Very good Phonics

*2013-07-05, version 1.1*

The phonics in this app are really good.
I don't agree with the person saying the voices are bad cause they are quite good! Could you add some more words to the app?

### 5/5 — Very good

*2013-04-22, version 1.1*

Wonderful, as a babysitter this is exactly what I was looking for to give the kids a more productive time learning. I think this is the only app that uses the Jolly system in teaching phonetics in such a basic manner that only young children would appreciate. The stickers are a nice way to encourage them as well.

### 5/5 — Simple yet effective

*2013-04-22, version 1.1*

I've found that with my niece she is drawn to the colourful pictures and sounds, and is therefore more likely to learn with this app. I'm so glad that this exists as she is still learning to speak and this will help immensely. The pronunciations seem fine and I haven't seen it done much better in other apps that are just too complicated for their target ages. Thanks, great app!

### 5/5 — Good matching

*2013-04-22, version 1.1*

Lovely matching app, the phonics are good

### 5/5 — Good support for teacher

*2013-04-22, version 1.1*

This app really helps in class. I teach the different phonics groups and the kids are liking the app a lot. The pronunciation is good so they learn it correctly. This app is one of the few that teaches CORRECT phonics!

### 5/5 — accurate, unique

*2013-04-22*

The content of the app is quite unique as it offers the correct phonics! Most of the other apps I have tried do not do this so well done!

### 5/5 — Phonics Match

*2013-04-22*

I teach in a school that uses the Jolly Phonics program and I absolutely love this. It's a great support app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t get

*2019-09-27, version 1.6.6*

We had this game the free one and upgraded for £2.99 for nothing at all the game is the same as it was when free don’t waste 2.99 keep the free one

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2014-09-09, version 1.4*

Poor value for money. My 4 year old whilst enjoying the app very quickly worked through all of the available games (did not take long). To move on I had to purchase more.

### 1/5 — Mrs

*2013-07-02, version 1.1*

Terrible Asian / foreign voice.. Phonics sounds okay... But word pronunciation shocking... Waste of money!

### 2/5 — Limited

*2013-04-09, version 1.1*

I found the app engaged my son and he enjoyed playing for stickers, however when teaching phonics the accent on the app makes some of the sounds inaccurate and over pronounced; standard English would be more appropriate. Also, expensive for what the app is offering. There are no opportunities to read whole words and test the sounds taught.

### 2/5 — Phonics

*2013-03-09, version 1.1*

As a teacher that teaches jolly phonics I would rather see letters matched to sounds eg n with a picture of a net. The children are just matching the shape of a letter not the letter with the sound. You are giving them the answer. You also need to remember if children are at Satpin for example they are 5 or 6 years old, to put cat for t is too confusing. You need a t picture. Thanks for making a satpin game many classes are using iPads now. From New Zealand Vicky

### 3/5 — Good, needs options.

*2013-10-02, version 1.2*

Would be 5 star if there was an option to only show lowercase letters, or a choice between lowercase, uppercase or both. Right now both show, which is confusing for my 4 year old.

Hope the app can be updated to add this feature, will change to 5 stars if it is! :)

### 3/5 — Ok

*2013-05-13, version 1.1*

This app has the potential to be great. It would be much more beneficial if you could adjust pronunciation to suit your country :)

### 3/5 — Good but not perfect

*2013-03-28*

This is the only app I've found that offers synthetic phonics, as taught in UK primary schools which means it deserves a good rating for that alone! Other 'phonics' apps have nothing to do with real synthetic phonics, and just follow the alphabet. For example, they do not teach the sounds that are created by two written letters (sh, ch, th, oa, ee, oo er, etc...). This app does teach this, which is great. Also, the spoken sounds are the correct units of sounds (/s/ not /suh/, /m/ not /muh/) which is rarely done on these apps.

I have only given 3 stars for two reasons:

1. It would be good to have a little variety in the games - they are all matching memory games, so it's not too versatile, and children will get bored quickly. Perhaps a couple of other options, eg. bingo, listen and spell, match the word to the picture - all standard teaching tools.

2. The bigger reason - the speaker of the sounds is not a native English speaker. She has a very good accent, but it's not perfect (her pronunciation of 'tie' and 'pig' do sound quite foreign, whereas other sound she does very well). Given the nature of the app (teaching units of sound) correct pronunciation is vital. A British speaker (and an option for a US speaker for American users) would be essential if this app is to hope to have any long term success.

### 3/5 — Ok app

*2013-02-25, version 1.1*

The app is ok. The accent is sometimes a bit odd and I would prefer all of the selections have the sound at the start of the word. For example T as in Tap, rather that T as in caT.

### 4/5 — One of the best

*2014-12-10, version 1.4*

Had some great success with this app trying to teach my daughter some phonics. The app helps a lot to make it entertaining! It helps to be able to hear the different phonics sounds in the groups so she learns it in order. Great work!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I recommend this app

*2015-05-23, version 1.5*

The school of my daughter recommended this app to learn phonics while playing and it's really been helpful! It teaches the phonics with good words and it looks pretty so my daughter stays interested for long enough. Can you please make an app that does phonics blending too? That would help a lot! Thanks

### 5/5 — Enjoyable

*2015-02-19, version 1.5*

A very enjoyable phonics game, my son likes to play. There are a lot of words and sounds in it

### 5/5 — Great Jolly Phonics game

*2014-08-13, version 1.4*

This is one of the best phonics games on the App Store. It has all the Jolly phonics groups and my son likes the game a lot. It's giving him an advantage in school.

### 5/5 — Great

*2014-05-09*

Very good Jolly Phonics app, my daughter is getting much better with the groups.

### 5/5 — Phonics Match

*2014-02-16, version 1.3.3*

I bought this app for my daughter. I had a problem geting sound to start with so emailed Bram Van Damme. They were brilliant and got back to me straight away even though it was late evening. It turned out that I had the mute switch on, the one used for rotation blocking. Once I slid the switch it all worked fine and my daughter loves it. Would reccommend the app.

### 5/5 — Great recognition for phonics

*2014-02-12, version 1.3.3*

My 4 year old loves this game (one of the few he gets on with!) - its great for recognition particularly with blended words and digraphs like ie and oo. Highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — Very good phonics game

*2014-02-06, version 1.3.3*

This is a very good phonics matching game and the phonics have very good pronunciation. The different levels are good to build up the difficulty.

### 5/5 — Great update

*2014-02-06, version 1.3.3*

Really liking the new update, it looks and plays really well and the new phonics cards are great!

### 5/5 — Good phonics

*2014-01-29, version 1.3.3*

The jolly phonics are great

### 5/5 — Fun matching pairs game

*2014-01-26, version 1.3.3*

Bought this game and I just wanted to say a few things for other parents! First of all, this game plays and looks great, I have a 4 year old daughter and she is learning the jolly phonics groups. This game helps her to remember the phonics sounds, which are very good also. If you are looking for a fun matching pairs game with phonics, I suggest you try this one!
