## What is Phonics Play & Learn?

Phonics Play & Read makes learning to read fun and easy for young children. Designed for ages 3-8, the app teaches phonics through interactive lessons, hands-on games, and delightful stories, all in a safe, ad-free environment.

PRIVACY
No adverts. No analytics. No accounts, no sign-up, no data collection of any
kind. Nothing your child does leaves the iPad. There is no third-party software
in this app at all.

It starts with the sound each letter makes and helps your child read get on the path to
whole stories on their own. In between there is a path: one clear next thing to
do, every time they open the app, so nobody has to decide what to practise.

A GUIDED PATH
16 stages, from the alphabet to the first 100 words. Each stage mixes lessons,
games and a story, and finishes with a short checkpoint so you can see the
learning has stuck. Nothing is timed and nothing is ever lost a checkpoint
that does not go well can be tried again straight away.

WHAT IS INSIDE
- 173 lessons: every letter sound, short vowel words, digraphs, blends, long
vowels, and the 100 words that make up half of everything your child will read
- 60 stories in six levels, every one read aloud in a warm human voice
- 12 games, including tracing letters in the night sky, catching falling sounds
in a bucket, and building words from bubbles
- Comprehension questions after every story, because reading the words is only
  half of reading

BUILT FOR SMALL CHILDREN

FOR THE GROWN-UPS
A parent area behind a simple gate shows which sounds your child is finding
tricky, not just how many stars they have. You can open the whole path if your
child already knows their letters, set the difficulty, switch on a
dyslexia-friendly typeface, and save a copy of everything they have earned so a
new iPad never loses it.

WHAT IS FREE
The whole first stage all 26 letters and their sounds is free, along with
the first three stories and every game. A subscription opens the rest of the
path, all 60 stories and unlimited play.

Monthly and annual subscriptions are available. Payment is charged to your Apple
ID at confirmation. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least
24 hours before the end of the period; manage or cancel in Settings > Apple ID >
Subscriptions.

### 2.0.0 — 2026-08-06

A guided path
One clear next thing to do every time your child opens the app, instead of a
screen full of choices. Sixteen stages, from the alphabet to reading whole
sentences, each ending in a short checkpoint so you can see the learning has
stuck. Nothing is timed and a checkpoint can always be tried again.

   Six new games
Fly a comet along the stars to write a letter. Catch falling sounds in a
bucket. Float words down a river to the boat they rhyme with, build words out
of bubbles, load a train with the words of a sentence, and knock the right
   letter off a wall.

28 new stories, 60 in total
Six levels that grow with your child, from five-word pages to real chapters.
The last five are Koda's Adventures, a story in five parts for children reading
on their own. Every story is read aloud, word by word, in a warm human voice,
and every one now ends with questions about what happened.

   The first 100 words
The words that make up half of everything your child will read: the, and, said,
there, people. Most cannot be sounded out, so they are learned by sight, and now
they have their own place in the app.

   A brand new look
Every menu, story and stage has its own illustration. You will notice it the
   moment you open the app.

   Save your progress
New in the parent area: save a copy of everything your child has earned, so a
new iPad or a reset never loses it.

   Also in this update
   - Every game and Story Time are on the home screen from the start
   - The free part of the app is now the whole first stage all 26 letters and
their sounds rather than a few lessons from each section
   - See exactly which sounds your child is finding tricky, in the parent area
   - Games respond when an answer is wrong, and quietly help after two tries
   - A grown-up can open the whole path at once, for a child who already reads

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-28

A brand-new phonemic-awareness game where kids tap two illustrated words that rhyme. Cat & bat! Cake & lake! Rhyming is one of the strongest predictors of reading success, and
this playful format makes it feel like a game, not a drill.
Every story now ends with three friendly questions to check that your child understood what they read — narrated by our Dorothy voice with illustrated multiple-choice answers.
Kids see stars based on how many they get right on the first try. You'll finally know if they were paying attention.
